Mailing list policy question
Hi all, While I was gone I thought a bit about the flame war a few weeks ago and some of the very unpleasant private emails some people decided to send me as a result, most of them demanding that I solve *their* particular problem for them. I wanted to get people's feel for what the policy should be for this mailing list. I have so far tried to limit it to the syslinux loader family

Ruby/Odeum vs. Lucene Performance
Hi All, At the risk of starting a major flame war and giving Java player-haters more fuel for their ire, I''ve done a performance comparison between Ruby/Odeum and Lucene: http://www.zedshaw.com/projects/ruby_odeum/performance.html Please don''t take this as a "Java sucks Ruby rulez" posting, or that I''ve done any sort of scientific analysis here.

Dear All, Thanks for all your replied but still I don't know how to install from 1.0.7 to 1.2.14. What should I consider to keep the same configuration during or after upgrade? Bug 13517: Forums breaking mailing list
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13517 Is Wine going to have to lose even more experienced users over a stupid bug? Does WineHQ really value new users over those who have the knowledge and are willing to help? Let's move towards resolution on this and consolidate on Google Groups already, before it's too late. -- Paul Johnson baloo at ursine.ca -------------- next part

Dovecot Oy merger with Open-Xchange AG
I hate to have started this, especially the "sister" thread that has dissented into a flame war of what is OSS. Let me say that I believe there is nothing wrong trying to make money on ones efforts. Actually it is a must. How can anyone continue to put efforts into a project when there is no reward? Especially when most of the effort is by a single individual. Secondly there comes a

Mailing list <-> forum gateway
Hi all, First off - this is not flame bait or a troll. It's a genuine question. Since the forum gateway was introduced, it is my opinion that this list is getting flooded with newbie questions. Check the "I just installed Ubuntu" thread for a typical example. I wish to silently remove all wine-forum posts and their replies from my inbox. I plan to filter based on From:

Mailing List Etiquette
OK guys and gals ... can we please stop all the fighting? When technical questions are asked, they should be answered. I lot of people on this list have something that a lot of newbies need ... experience. So answering a question with "RTFM" or "JFGI" is not going to impart any of your experience ... which is one of the things they need and want. Also ... if someone attacks

CentOS 6 vs. other RHEL clones: security advisory comparison
Hello, I made some statistics and comparisons about security advisories published by three popular RHEL 6 clones: CentOS 6, Oracle Linux 6 and Scientific Linux 6. The article is available at the following URL: http://bitrate.epipe.com/rhel-vs-centos-scientific-oracle-linux-6_187 I hope you find it interesting. Looks like CentOS has been doing quite well this year in this regard. Feedback is

And, even now, they are somewhat equivocal in saying it shouldn't be used. [No source given, but it's something I've looked at in the last year and there

I have RHel6. How does that turn into Centos 6?
The bickering here about Centos 6 has made me wonder what is actually legally necessary to re-distribute the RPM files that come with RHel6. I am not starting a flame ware, I hope. I'm just curious about what is minimally necessary go from RHel6 to another distribution. I suppose we could discuss "Paul Linux 6" instead of Centos, if that makes you feel more comfortable. I've been using "pythondev.slack.com" and honestly, its a fantastic tool for community support with really nice features for computer centric discussion. https://enterpriselinux.slack.com/shared_invite/MTY4MTM5NjQ2NTc5LTE0OTE5OTkyNTctMjkyNGU1NWQzOA My hope is that those running
