java with internet explorer under wine
Hi,
my bank requires a java certifiate that won't run under linux (I know that
most of the java applets are platform independent, but this one is not).
I've managed to get java running under Firefox with wine, but it turns out
that their java won't run properly under Firefox neither. (This was affirmed
by a windows user friend as well.) So my only remaining option is IE with
wine.

Installing a program with ies4linux
I'm under the assumption that I could use ies4linux to enable html in programs if I install the program with them. However, I have no idea how to do it. I have downloaded/installed ies4linux already (and installed ie6). I'd like to know since the program I am trying to get html in (RealOne Player) works fine, but when Gecko tries to load html it crashes and burns, and I was hoping this

MS Project and IE trusted zone
MS Project 2003 seems to mostly work in Wine RC1 but it needs to use a html renderer to do anything useful.
The problem is that whatever it uses need to be in the trusted zone in the Internet Explorer options which I don't know how to access. I tried to install IEs4Linux but that installs into its own wine environment ~/.ies4linux/ie6/ instead of ~/.wine/ so Project can't get use the

Wineserver is not shooting down
First - Wine is great. I love it totally.
To login into a company website I have to use IE6 - Firefox is not handling the Web Site due to some reglementations.
IE6 runs fine and there are NO problems. Only after exit, the Wineserver keeps running and takes away a lot CPU Power. I can stop it manually (System Monitor -> Process. Right Click and I can stop it (and it relieves the Power from the

How to instruct Wine to use MSIE rendering engine by default instead of Gecko?
Hi,
I need to debug some complex Javascript that leaks in MSIE (no leaks
in Firefox though). For this purpose, I am trying to utilize programs
like Drip and sIEve. Both programs fail under Wine, and my guess is,
they try to use Gecko as the rendering engine (and this is not what's
desired: Gecko works fine with my stuff).
Now, provided that MSIE can be installed under Wine, and works, can

Can't install IE6
Using wine 0.9.58 on Ubuntu 8.04
Like an idiot, I tried to install IE7 before doing the research to find that IE6 was more ideal with far fewer problems. So after attempting to install IE7 and failing, I tried to install IE6, but in the terminal I get this response after typing wine ie6setup.exe:
Warning: the specified System directory L"C:\\windows\\system32" is not accessible.

ActiveX Controls Not Working
For a month I've been trying to get ActiveX controls working from the ToolkitCMA.com site with IE6. Some serious weirdness going on.
So now I check what I look like at http://bellsnwhistles.com/bells.html, and it informs me that:
"The Browser you are using is Microsoft Internet Explorer (Mozilla) 4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98)"
Eh no, I check Help|About IE, and it

Installation asks for IE4 or higher
I'm trying to install Circuit Design Suite vers.10, a National Instruments electronic CAD.
I start installation wizard and almost immediately it asks for Internet Explorer 4 or higher.
In FAQ I found http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-69ca5e820c6eef64196e1830bf7f09521c2a4843 regarding my problem and I follow instructions:

Explorer - DirectX and ActiveX
Hello!
I'll be running a web project in a future that has a "3d city" built in. Unfortunately the makers of this 3dcity were enough braindamaged to make it as activeX component, so it only works for IE users.
The first rational step was to install explorer with ies4linux script and it works briliantly (IE6)!
The activeX component does install and start, however it is saying there

Troubles patching Anarchy Online
Ok, I finally got done with installing files for work, but now I am having troubles with a game I play occasionally called Anarchy Online. I got the game itself installed just fine, but now I need to patch it, and according to the forum, I need to get Internet exploder working on linux. I tried the IES4Linux first, because it seemed easiest, but I got an error with my version of wine. I am using

How to get IE6 stable?
Hello,
I installed IE6 with both WineTools and IEs4Linux (under different user
accounts).
Most of the features work, but IE often hangs. Then I can only kill the
process.
Has someone got IE6 stable under WINE?
If so, which WINE version do I have to use and how shall I configure
it?
Thanks in advance,
Colin Finck

Inability to proceed with installation of Windows app
I used to use Windows; now I use Linux. One application I used under
Windows was MS Money; under Linux, I've been using Gnucash instead.
However, Gnucash has been causing me some problems recently, so I
thought of trying to use Wine to run my old copy of MS Money under Linux.
I downloaded and installed an RPM of Wine for my distribution,
wine-core-0.9.16-2.fc3.i386.rpm. That done, I used

IEs4Linux is not supported here. If you need real IE, use winetricks to install it.

How to remove read access to / and my $HOME
Hi,
New wine user here. Installed Wine with IES4Linux and was totally amazed
at how well it worked and how simple it was! Excellent!
The problem I have is I want to restrict IE6 from being able to access my
entire Linux file system and just allow it to access (for instance)
~/.wine/drive_c.
I haven't found out how to do that yet. Is it possible?
More detail: In IE6 under Wine,

Office XP - possible to install?
Hi all.
I've *never* been able to install Office XP. I've had it running in
CrossOver ( demo ), but my work is too stingy to pay for that, and yet I
still want to install Office. At the moment my VirtualBox installation
is becoming flaky.
I've updated a fresh Ubuntu-8.04 installation to wine-1.0-rc1.
I've then followed the instructions for installing on Gentoo ( install

Tips for packaging games?
Hi list,
I intend to package a few games of mine using Debian packages for easy
installation and would like some tips on how to do it properly.
I thought of creating packages that depends on wine and to create a
wineprefix for each game somewhere in /usr or /var mostly because
different games want it's own settings and to control them separately.
But this way I don't think updates of
