Rails' inflections are messy
Yesterday, I opened a GitHub Issue<https://github.com/rails/rails/pull/7071> about moving Rails inflections to an initializer. The idea wasn''t received well, understandably, as generating a large initializer with new Rails apps is pretty unappealing. However, the core members seemed open to the discussion of alternatives continuing here. For those of you not in the know,

Problems with ./scripts/generate scaffold
Hi all, I''m new to rails after having used perl for most of these things, and am trying to get my head around the generate script for a project playing around with. If I do: ./scripts/generate controller Device I get app/controllers/device_controller.rb where I can then add: scaffold :device However, if I want to actually generate the scaffolding so I can make some changes:

rails naming convention for model: community
Hello, How does Rails deal with the pluralization of community. I have "community" as my model name. Will Rails automatically look for a table name "communities" or do I have to name the table "communitys"? Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Scaffold a Plural table w/ No Pluralization in environment
Hi guys, I have a situation here. I have my project set to no pluralization due to legacy tables in environment.rb. Now, I have some new tables which I''m starting to pluralize. When I do a generate a scaffold to this new table: script/generate scaffold my_tables table it seems to work out fine for certain sections like http://mysite.com/railsapp/new (which also inserts properly to

weird table pluralization problem
When I created a new project and a "equipment" model for an unknown reason to me rails tried to query the table "equipment" and not "equipments", does someone know why it did that ? So I added set_table_name "equipments" in the model class and it now works but I don''t really understand why it is required in the first place... -- Posted via

pluralization issue? (taxes/taxis)
Hi all, Here''s an odd one. I have a "Tax" model which is related via a habtm relationship to a "Storefront" model. In my view_store rhtml file, I have the line : @storefront.taxes.each do |tax| This line returns the following error: NameError in Admin#view_store Showing app/views/admin/view_store.rhtml where line #52 raised: uninitialized constant Taxis See

Equipment_URL Failed to Generate (new_equipment_path)
I''m trying to use new_equipment_path, which creates the appropriate link. But, when trying to evaluate "equipment/new" I get the error below. I''ve included my routes (rake route). Equipment is one of those words that pluralizes to "equipment", so the singular is right (from what I know from this forum. Any help would be appreciated. Error: equipment_url

Acts_as_taggable pluralize
I am implementing a messaging system, which requires broadcast to group feature. Instead of a relatively clunky habtm group structure, I am using tags. Form a usability standpoint, it would be helpful to avoid redundant tags. Like, friend vs friends OR client vs. clients. Is it practical to filter tags, before entry, to avoid duplicate tags like plural vs. singular? -- Posted via

Table naming conventions
Folks, I am new to rails. I have tried Google searches, checked the tips and doco and can''t find the answer to a simple question. I have a table called "Activity" that I want to rename so I can use RubyOnRails but I don''t know whether the plural form should be "Activitys" or "Activities". Can someone illuminate me on what to do? regards Simon

Pluralization of non-noun names
People, I have an insurance company client and for the last eleven years I have wanted to completely redevelop their system from scratch. However, the boss has never been interested in hiring a team to develop the new system (partly because of the cost and partly because of some famous and expensive development failures in the industry) and has always insisted on incremental development of the

rforum engine
Here''s a question for those well-versed in rforum or engines -- or both, ideally :) I''ve spent some time today turning RForum into an engine, using rails 1.0, engines trunk, and rforum 0.1 (as rforum trunk didn''t appear to work out of the box). My rforum engine works, but only when I do two things that I found by trial and error: 1) All rforum controllers subclass
