Any liberally-licensed open source projects out there that make good use of RSpec?
I''m trolling for example RSpec code. Any pointers appreciated.

Performance and scalability
Hi,
My question is.
What are your performance experiences compared to languages such as PHP,
PERL and ASP?
Could you build a site as big as Ebay on rails and have it perform fast
enough?
I''m afraid that the generalisation in components I see so much users
asking for will make the framework too heavy compared to a clean
programmed for perfomance PHP application. Probably even

Rails without a db - how to run tests
I''m writing a simple app that doesn''t need to use a database. I added
:active_record to the config.frameworks -= line in environment.rb
file. This lets me run ./script/generate fine without complaining
about no connection. However if I try to run a functional test, it
complains about no connection being established. Well...I don''t want
a connection to be established.

TDD for Rails book?
It seems like half the people on this list are writing a book on Ruby
or Rails. For all the hints I''ve seen strewn across the list I have
yet to see one that will focus on test-driven development for either
Ruby or for Rails.
If anyone is looking for a topic, please consider this. I''ve been
trying to wrap my brain around the TDD process, but its way of
thinking is

Rails and decimal types mapped to float
Hi,
I''m a brazilian developer, work in a hospital and we have a legacy
database that we want to access via rails.
Rails maps decimal types to float, and to circumvent this problem the
suggestion one can find on the list is to represent decimal values as
cents. That''s not applicable when you have to access a legacy database.
I found two tickets 4274 and 4605 on rails trac,

Rails Vs JBoss Seam
I have been frustrated with J2EE technology just like any other developer who has worked in that
technology for a long time. This made me learn about Rails and I was excited about RoR. Today I
came across JBoss Seam framework and I am not able to contain my excitement.
My passion for JEE development is back. It seems like it is better than RoR. I would like to hear
differnt opinions about this

List of tables rather than an extra dimension in the table or (l)apply(xtabs)
I'm not sure how to best explain what I am after but here goes. I have a data frame with 2 geographical factors. One is the major region the other is the component regions.
I am trying to process all the regions at the same time without using "for". So I need (think, I do) a list of matrices each structured according to the number of subregions within each region.
So is there a

Ruby on AIX?
We''re looking at big IBM hardware running AIX as a potential
deployment platform for the big credit card processing Rails and Ruby
stuff that my team is currently building. I was wondering if anyone
else is running on AIX or knows if Ruby is well-supported on this
platform.
I googled the subject, but

Anyone using Firebird w/ Rails?
I saw that there''s a patch in the queue
(http://dev.rubyonrails.com/ticket/1874) for a Firebird adapter. Just
wondering if anyone is using this, the other Firebird adapter, or
something else w/ Rails. My main interest is that sometimes Windows is a
target platform, and Firebird is stable on Windows, whereas I''ve heard
that the Windows version of PostgreSQL isn''t

Hmmm. RJ-45 on TDMx0B card?
Just wondering if there's any significance to the jacks on the TDM
cards. They appear to be RJ-45 instead of RJ-11, and I wasn't quite
sure if that's something that makes a difference from the user
perspective. . .
Thx.

testcase_setup_and_teardown_with_blocks (aka "The plugin with the very long name")
Hey all,
I got annoyed recently that I couldn''t specifiy multiple chunks of
test setup and teardown code that get executed for each test. You''re
currently limited to just one setup method (unless I''m much mistaken).
Anyway, I just wrapped up my solution in a plugin. The answer: use
blocks!
class Test::Unit::TestCase
# This is overridden by the subclass and will

Change to set_fixture_class
So, I sat down to use set_fixture_class, and it bombed on the first
thing I tried:
set_fixture_class :content_drafts => "Article::Draft"
I made a quick patch, and I''d appreciate a quick run through your
tests to make sure it doesn''t disturb anything:

As I was typing this, I realized that the string gives us no benefits.

Drawing Maps of detailed Australian regions
Hi all,
I'm trying to draw a bubble plot over a map -- where the map shows local government areas (LGA) in Australia (or other structures under the Australian Standard Geographical Classification), but am not sure where I can find the data to plot such maps (e.g. draw the state of Northern Territory but also showing LGA divisions).
Any help will be greatly appreciated, apologies if this is

We are looking for Rails developers for a start-up initiative. The implementation is medium-sized and can be done in a matter of months. We have a a professional design in place as well as a complete description of the solution.
We don''t have any money to pay salaries yet, so we will be doing this in our spare time. However, this is a project that has huge potential and we expect to be
