Time for 4.2.0 rc0?
Hey Keir,
I committed the last of the big outstanding tools blockers for 4.2
yesterday. Currently they are still in staging because they added some
new xenstore paths which tickled the leak detector in the test system
What do you think of doing an rc0 release next week?
There''s still some smaller issues remaining but I think they can wait
until rc1.

xend with XenAPI in stackless python-2.7
Hi,
I am using XEN-4.1.2 and linux-2.6.32 as dom0.
After I upgraded stackless python from 2.5 to 2.7 (and rebuilt xen).
XenAPI became unusable, I spent some time to investigate XenAPI,py, it
looks fine.
So, I guess xend has problem with python 2.7, because it always returned
method unknown.
Do I have to tweak xend to let it support python 2.7?
Thanks,
Eric

[PATCH] xen_disk: cope with missing xenstore "params" node
From: Stefano Stabellini <stefano.stabellini@eu.citrix.com>
When disk is a cdrom and the drive is empty the "params" node in
xenstore might be missing completely: cope with it instead of
segfaulting.

Driver domains communication protocol proposal
During some discussions and handwaving, including discussions with
some experts on the Xenserver/XCP storage architecture, we came up
with what we think might be a plausible proposal for an architecture
for communication between toolstack and driver domain, for storage at
least.
I offered to write it up. The abstract proposal is as I understand
the consensus from our conversation. The concrete

[PATCH 2/4] time: add a notifier chain for when the system time is stepped
From: David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com>
The high resolution timer code gets notified of step changes to the
system time with clock_was_set() or clock_was_set_delayed() calls. If
other parts of the kernel require similar notification there is no
clear place to hook into.
Add a clock_was_set atomic notifier chain
(clock_was_set_notifier_list) and call this in place of
clock_was_set().

[PATCH 2/5] time: pass flags instead of multiple bools to timekeeping_update()
From: David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com>
Instead of passing multiple bools to timekeeping_updated(), define
flags and use a single ''action'' parameter. It is then more obvious
what each timekeeping_update() call does.

timekeeping on VM - ntpd running
This is really stupid question. But referring to:
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2009-October/083791.html
I don't see any line related to ntpd in my /var/log/messages . Do I need to
turn-on ntpd for timekeeping on VMs? Some people say not to use ntpd on VMs
for timekeeping or is it ntpdate cron job? Can someone please elaborate on
this?
Thanks,
Jonathan.

PoD, 4.2, and current/maximum reservation
A user has pointed out a problem with GPLPV under Xen 4.2 when using PoD. I''m using the difference between XENMEM_maximum_reservation and XENMEM_current_reservation to tell me how much I should balloon down to account for PoD, but when the user has ballooned down to 1G (from 4Gb or 8GB), GPLPV logs the following:

timekeeping on VMware guests
Howdy,
I am having time-drift issues on my CentOS VM. I had referred to
following documentation:
http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/VMWare_Server , however it didn't
help. I used kickstart for creating this VM and I am listing important
steps in ref to timekeeping issue. Any comments or suggestion would be
appreciated.

[PATCH] [Xend] Move some backend configuration
This patch moves some dom0 variables and backend device
configuration from frontend directories to
/local/domain/<backdomid>/backend or /vm.
Also,
- the first console is created as a xend device and moves
from console/0 to device/console/0
- /vm_path/<domid> is introduced, referencing the /vm path
- /vm_path/device/backend holds the backend device location,
rather than storing it

Bug#661687: xen-utils-common: TOOLSTACK setting not honored
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.1.2-3
Severity: important
/etc/default/xen, which carries the TOOLSTACK setting, is not honored by xend init script.
The xend initscript doesn't check for the value of TOOLSTACK. It just populates it in its initscript.
lnx200-39:/etc/init.d# grep TOOLSTACK *
xend:TOOLSTACK=$(/usr/lib/xen-common/bin/xen-toolstack 2>/dev/null)

ocaml bindings
i''m the Mageia Xen package maintainer, and a user reported that i had missing
symbols in my ocaml bindings:
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5199
i''m using Xen 4.2.1 and ocaml 3.12.1
the problem is that if you just to a simple hello world and you''re using
certain bindings (eg: xeneventch): you get missing symbols. (others appear to
be fine).

Ubuntu delta against 4.5.0-1 in experimental for disussion
Hi,
I just finished preparing the Xen-4.5 merge from experimental into our next
release (Vivid/15.04). And something I actually should have done since the 4.4
times is to report back the delta I have in case there are things Debian might
want to pick up as well.
So below is the commented debdiff between the 4.5.0-1 in experimental and the
Ubuntu version I prepared so far (only compile tested on

Xen clocksources and timekeeping wiki page
Hello,
I was thinking of creating a wiki page about Xen clocksources and timekeeping..
including dom0, PV guests and HVM guests.
Dan and Jeremy: You guys might have some ideas for this page..
please let me know your thoughts :)
Subjects to cover:
- Xen hypervisor clocksources (hpet, acpi_pm, pit)
- Xen dom0 clocksource, ntpd, etc
- Xen PV guest clocksources, independent_wallclock, ntpd,

If it's the VMware document I'm thinking of (titled "Timekeeping in
VMware Virtual Machines"), then the issue is that emulating the timer
interrupt can cause a heavy load on the host if the guest timer is
