IPFW and icmp
I'm not a master of the internet RFCs, but I do believe icmp messages have
different types.
Now to enable traceroute for IPFW, I might put in a rule like this:
ipfw add pass icmp from any to me
However, how would I make a rule to limit icmp messages to just those used
by traceroute? Can the messages be distinguished as such?
A dynamic rule that exists only for the duration of a traceroute

ttyv for local only?
I get this in my security postings.
Jun [undisclosed time] [undiscl.] login: 2 LOGIN FAILURES ON ttyv2
Jun [undisclosed time] [undiscl.] login: 2 LOGIN FAILURES ON ttyv2, qmaild
As it turns out, I'm not running qmail :) And if I did, it would
definitely have a nologin shell. But that's beside the point-
I have had a perception that ttyv was for local/console logins, and that

Packet flow through IPFW+IPF+IPNAT ?
Hi.
On my FreeBSD 4.8 configured IPFW2+IPF+IPNAT and I use them all:
- IPFW - traffic accounting, shaping, balancing and filtering;
- IPFilter - policy routing;
- IPNAT - masquerading.
I want to know, how IP-packets flow through all of this components?
What's the path?
incoming: IPFW Layer2 -> IPFW&Dummynet -> IPNAT -> IPFilter ?
outgoing: IPFW Layer2 ->

Internet threat management package
... Looking for a recommendation for a commercial threat management
package. ( Think antivirus / antispy / anti-rootkit -- all rolled into
one engine ), similar to this product:
http://usa.kaspersky.com/products_services/work-space-security.php,
which currently only supports one kernel for FC6, and RHEL4, officially.
Here's the background. Need to make a decision and investment for a

Again - backup WINS server?
Is there any way to set up a backup WINS
specification in dhcp/Win NT/Samba?
Having my WINS server go down the last
few days made this a little more desirable,
especially since when I noticed the service
was dead, I wasn't able to reboot it for a few
hours due to usage.
Thanks,
Bill

kvm interface
I am looking for a description of the kp_proc and
kp_eproc structures. I found very weak information in
the system headers (just that they were among the
members of a kinfo_proc structure. Browsing what
Google sent me, I found out that these structures changed
a bit from 4.x to 5.x. That's why I post this message on this
mailing list ... just in case anyone knows ....
Thanks in advance.

How to tie orders taken to specific CDR records
Our phone operators work off of an Asterisk queue. They take calls from
customers and take orders with our back end systems. What I need to be
able to do is tie the orders taken to the specific CDR record that
reflects the call from which the order originated.
The typical/sample CDR table doesn't have a primary key. I can add an
auto-generated PK, but the CDR is not written until the

Question about ip_forward in clear_firewall
Firewall users,
My apologies as I''m not on this list, so please respond directly as
well as to the list. I did try to search the archives and didn''t find
any hits, although the search did not like searching for terms with
underscores in them (both clear_firewall and ip_forward).
I was trying to understand why, when running shorewall stop, even though
it echoes

FreeBSD 4.8 / Samba 3.0.11 - more signal 11's than before... (3.0.8)
The error message is the usual panic error - 3.0.11 and FreeBSD 4.8.
Samba 3.0.8 ran fine with the same config (admittedly there were a few
roaming profile sync related crashes, which is why I was upgrading).
Now however I can't even connect - it crashes immediately, respawns and
crashes again.

[PATCH] Btrfs: Check for NULL page in extent_range_uptodate
A user has encountered a NULL pointer kernel oops in btrfs when
encountering media errors. The problem has been identified
as an unhandled NULL pointer returned from find_get_page().
This modification simply checks for a NULL page, and returns
with an error if found (the extent_range_uptodate() function
returns 1 on errors).
After testing this patch, the user reported that the error with

Shorewall & IPSec gateway
To all,
I''ve just recently finished my "Security Gateway Server" project which
separates a 10 laptop WLAN subnet from our main LAN/Internet network. I
used Debian Sarge with kernel 2.6.9/ipsec-netfilter patched, and
Shorewall 2.2.0-RC3 on a Asus P4S533, 2.4 GHz PenIV and 512MB memory.

DAHDI fax detection
Asterisk 16 latest
DAHDI 3.0.0 latest
Excerpt from chan_dahdi.conf is shown below. I'm trying to enable fax
detection on inbound calls so that I can take appropriate action in the
dial plan. "dahdi show channel 1" shows "Fax Handled: no". Does that
mean that I don't have it configured correctly?
