problems with R startup in mac
Dear sir/madam,
I encountered some problems when running R on my computer. To be honest, I
am only a beginner of computer programming and I have no idea how to deal
with it. I have tried to change the font in "system preference" but it did
not work. Can you tell me how to get it right?
The system of my computer is Mac OS snow leopard
The warnings are like these:

Dear Ren Yongjie
Hi Yongjie,
I have just compiled and installed Xen 4.3-unstable changeset 26666 and
Linux kernel 3.8.1, according to your specifications. However, I still
cannot get success with Intel HD Graphics 4600 IGD VGA passthrough.
Although in Device Manager in Windows 7 HVM domU, it says "This device
is working properly" for Intel HD Graphics 4600, I can only get 16
colors. Please refer to

Will Xen 4.3 use upstream QEMU by default ?
Hi folks,
From the roadmap for Xen 4.3 development, Xen 4.3 will use upstream QEMU (partially done).
So I''d like to confirm the following questions.
1. Will Xen 4.3 really use upstream QEMU by default ?
I have the question because so far the xen.git tree still uses qemu-xen-unstable by default.
2. If ''yes'' for 1st question, which QEMU upstream will be used in Xen

Number of digits of a value for problem 7.31 RFAQ
Hello dear R users!
I did not find a function which gives information about the number of
digits of a value shown by R.
Do you know one?
I need it to solve the problem (see RFAQ 7.31)that 0.2==0.2+0.1-0.1 FALSE
The solution suggested in RFAQ is to use isTRUE(all.equal(0.2,0.2+0.1-0.1))
But if I want to compare inequality:
0.2<=0.2 +0.1-0.1 TRUE
but 0.2<=0.2 +0.1-0.1 FALSE
bad!

using mapply to avoid loops
Hello, I would like to use mapply to avoid using a loop but for some reason, I can't seem to get it to work. I've included copies of my code below. The first set of code uses a loop (and it works fine), and the second set of code attempts to use mapply but I get a "subscript out of bounds" error. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Xj, Yj, and Wj are also lists, and s2,

(updated) test report for xen-unstable tree with upstream QEMU
Hi All,
We did some testing for Xen-unstable tree with upstream QEMU.
We covered basic guest booting up, power management, VT-d, SR-IOV features.
We found 4 new bugs which only exist in upstream QEMU not in qemu-xen.
We followed the below wiki page to use upstream QEMU.

Multiple lapply get-around
I am faced with a situation wherein I have to use multiple lapply's. The
pseudo-code could be approximated to something as below:
For each X from i=1 to n
For each Y based on j=1 to m
For each F from 1 to f
Do some calculation based on Fij
Store Xi,Yj = Fij
End For F
End for Y
End for X
Is there anyway to optimize the processing logic further? I *guess*

sum of functions
Dear all,
I would like to create a code for semiparametric Klein and Spady's
estimator. For that I created a function that provides the log-likelihood
function for each observation (so it is a function of betas and i, where i
denotes the observation). Now, in order to maximize the log-likelihood
function, I have to sum these log-likelihood functions for each i and so to
get another function

Suggestion: add a warning in the help-file of unique()
Hello
I'm sorry if this suggestion/correction was already made but after a
search in devel list I did not find any mention of it.
I would just suggest to add a warning or an exemple for the help-file of
the function unique() like
"Note that unique() compares only identical values. Values which, are
printed equally but in facts are not identical will be treated as
different."

distances from points to line
Dear all,
I have discovered that there are many things that I used to do in my GIS
which are easily done directly in R, for example calculating interpoint
distances using geoR and pick out points inside a polygon using splancs.
I now wonder, is there a function to create a line object like a
watercourse and then calculate the distances between many points in space
and this line?
I couldn't

Session logging in Windows98?
I'd like to log all console I/O for an entire session while maintaining
normal console I/O. I'm working in Windows98, RGui, R1.1.1. The sink()
function is not the answer since it diverts output from the console. In the
RFAQ I see references to "...save the contents of the interaction buffer to
a file..." and in the R-Help Archive "...just save the console output...".

problem of install.packages in windows (R 1.81)
Dear R users,
I have a problem in the configuration of R:
I just changed university, and my conection to the net is via a password, which
permits me to access the packages with no problem via the internet explorer
(version 6).
I just updated R to R 1.81, and I cannot download nether upgrade packages (and
many are not working with the update!!!).
I have been looking in the help and emails, and
