Hi folks, From the roadmap for Xen 4.3 development, Xen 4.3 will use upstream QEMU (partially done). So I''d like to confirm the following questions. 1. Will Xen 4.3 really use upstream QEMU by default ? I have the question because so far the xen.git tree still uses qemu-xen-unstable by default. 2. If ''yes'' for 1st question, which QEMU upstream will be used in Xen 4.3 ? In xen.git, upstream QEMU URL is " git://xenbits.xen.org/qemu-upstream-unstable.git". but, the repository of pure QEMU upstream is " git://git.qemu.org/qemu.git". Best Regards, Yongjie (Jay)

However development should be done on git://git.qemu.org/qemu.git first, and once the patches are upstream, backports can be requested to get features and fixes in git://xenbits.xen.org/qemu-upstream-unstable.git.

Can i suggest that this issue should be sorted out first before doing the final change to qemu-upstream per default? http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2013-03/msg00211.html Cause for somebody who comes new to xen for using vga passthrough, this would cause some unnecessary confusion.. 2013/3/7 Ren, Yongjie <yongjie.ren@intel.com>:>> -----Original Message----- >> From: Stefano Stabellini [mailto:stefano.stabellini@eu.citrix.com] >> Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2013 11:51 AM >> To: Ren, Yongjie >> Cc: xen-devel@lists.xen.org; George Dunlap; Ian Campbell; Stefano >> Stabellini; Ian Jackson; Jan Beulich >> Subject: Re: Will Xen 4.3 use upstream QEMU by default ? >> >> On Thu, 7 Mar 2013, Ren, Yongjie wrote: >> > Hi folks, >> > >From the roadmap for Xen 4.3 development, Xen 4.3 will use upstream >> QEMU (partially done). >> > So I''d like to confirm the following questions. >> > >> > 1. Is there a Xen related feature which works fine with qemu-upstream-unstable.git tree but doesn''t work with qemu.git tree? I found qemu-upstream-unstable.git tree was based on QEMU 1.3.0 release and only added several bug fix commits after 1.3.0 release.

If this situation changes (let''s hope so), it would be useful to build xen without building qemu (i.e. build against installed qemu dev libraries etc.); I don''t know how feasible this is at the moment. -- Alex Bligh

We''re doing some regular testing for upstream Xen on Intel hardware. We''ll test xen.git with qemu.git tree by default, while in Xen 4.3 release cycle we''ll test Xen 4.3 with qemu-upstream-unstable.git tree.

It would be good for xen.org to test both qemu-upstream-unstable.git and qemu.git too.

FWIW I would also like to add --disable-qemu-traditional at the same time. Of course if someone was to beat me to it I''d be very pleased to review a patch instead of writing it (especially given that autoconf is involved ;-)) Ian.
