(Un)Usefulness of Vorbisgain?
I've just Replaygained several of my Vorbis albums with Vorbisgain, ranging
from 80's metal to present day soft rock. What I don't understand is why does
Vorbisgain actually make all tracks QUIETER? I see an average of -7db on
most albums. And after that, not only are they substantially quieter than my
MP3s (which is a pain), but it also fails to really "even out" the volume.

Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a Bug Report
Hi, there.
While waiting for the encoder RC1, I will report some minor problems
I experienced with Peter's Winamp decoder.
First, I am using Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a with Winamp v.2.76
on Windows 98 SE.
1. When the buttons of Playlist Editor are extended, the part extended
in playlist screen seems to be flickering when an Ogg file is being played.
2. I check the option of

Suggestion for libvorbisfile: scaling
I've been experimenting with the ideas of Replay Gain[1] and find that
ogg123 doesn't have a way of specifying the scaling applied to
replayed samples (like -f in mpg123).
Looking at libvorbisfile, I see no function exactly matching this
possibly desirable behaviour.
ov_read() scales by either 128 (byte output) or 32768 (word output),
but there's nothing in between.

Multi-channel labels in Vorbis comments
Hi devs :-)
At the Mozilla Festival in London recently, I took part in a Hack the DJ
workshop, looking at ways to take digital DJ'ing to the next level:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/researchanddevelopment/2011/11/setting-a-dj-challenge-at-the.shtml
One of the ideas proposed was stem mixing, using multichannel files in
DJ applications. A proprietary implementation of this idea is Fireplayer

multi-channel / ambisonics
when i encode i multi channel file, does flac encode every channel
seperatly or does is look for similarities between channels?
the documentation says:
INTER-CHANNEL DECORRELATION
In the case of stereo input, once the data is blocked it is optionally
passed through an inter-channel decorrelation stage. The left and right
channels are converted to center and side channels through the following

PHP script to administrate Icecast ?
Hi everyone
I wondered if any of you knew of a good PHP script to administrate Icecast,
as I'm not satisfied with the webadmin interface (templates do not control
everything and I'd rather not modify the sources). I've tried phpcast (found
on freshmeat) but I'd like to see others in action.
Another thing, anyone tried to change the mysql backend of icedir from SQL
to LDAP ?

Offtopic: royalty free music for multimedia presentation.
Hi!
Sorry for being somewhat offtopic but I'm hoping someone can help me. I need
to download some music I can use in a one-time non-commercial multimedia
presentation (technically speaking I'll be demo-ing ogg123 :-)). I don't care
what it is, only it musn't suck and be somewhat suitable for general audience.
RMS's speeches simply don't cut :-)
So far all music I found on

music.ibiblio.org: bad Vorbis comments?
Hi,
having inspected one of the files found at music.ibiblio.org, I realized that the
comments are quite poor or misformatted in the files.
I'm telling you, because:
1) I think it's great to have some free music
2) I think the performers deserve to be recognized
Generally, I'd put as much as possible into the Vorbis comments. Then you could
skip creating these index.html manually:

Problems with nls
I'm trying to fit the Bass Diffusion Model using the nls function in R but
I'm running into a strange problem. The model has either two or three
parameters, depending on how it's parameterized, p (coefficient of
innovation), q (coefficient of immitation), and sometimes m (maximum market
share). Regardless of how I parameterize the model I get an error saying
that the step factor has

Rhubarber (advanced peeler)

Bass response with Ogg Vorbis
I'm a bass player, I admit it. I came across a number of people
talking about bass response with Ogg Vorbis and it piqued my interest,
I live for this stuff.
I am using the Ogg files to distribute songs as converted right from
the 32 bit masters. This is a much different thing than ripping a 16
bit CD audio file that has been mushed and compressed much before it
winds up as an Ogg file. When

Notch Filter in AEC
Hi,
But in fact, it really affects the voice quality. One of my tester says, "Is your mouth far way from the mic?"
Could you explain why we should cut 200hz below?

Is this just anti-Ogg FUD?
I was recently talking to a friend of mine who produces what's widely
referred to as "techno", music that's heavy on electronically generated
loops and effects, samples, and has plenty of bass.
He doesn't like ogg for a few reasons - he sent me a rather long email, and
I've stripped out the nonsense from it (he has some technically irrelevant
reasons for not liking

Fruity Loops
With Winetricks, Fruity Loops seems to be working well. The only thing
that is not working right now is the packs. I can't figure out why the
packs aren't working. If I click on the bass pack, it produces sound;
if I click on one of the choir packs, no sound is produced. Linux reads
the bass pack as pcm encoded. Linux isn't able to read all the packs
that aren't working.

CVS server not responding
Hi,
the anonymous CVS server for portable OpenSSH does not want to talk to
me:
> % cvs upd -Pd
> cvs [update aborted]: connect to bass.directhit.com:2401 failed: Connection refused
Looking at http://www.openssh.com/portable.html,
":pserver:cvs at bass.directhit.com:/cvs" is still the recommended
repository.
Is this a known problem?

why does it sound so strange
hi,
what makes the stream at http://ogg.radiostudio.org:8007/ostream.ogg
sound so strange. I don't complain, I just want to know the reason for
this (is this pre-echo?).
mörk
p.s.: the stream will be online for the next couple of days.

Problems with nls
The problem is badly scaled -- parameters from very small to very big.
nlmrt package manages a bit better, but scaling would likely make it and
nls both happier. nlxb insists on having its data in a data frame.
