Volume changing à la MP3Gain?
Hullo,
There's a program called mp3gain which can be used to alter the volume
of an MP3 file in 1.5 dB steps. I once heard somewhere (I can't
remember *where*, but I swear) that something similar is possible with
Vorbis files, but in approximately 2.2 dB steps.
Is this true, or is my memory at fault? If it's possible to change the
volume of a Vorbis 1.0 file, could someone please

Some comments on the Vorbis FAQ
Hi,
http://www.vorbis.com/faq/#mean points to
http://www.xiph.org/xiphname.html, which is dead. The actual content
is at http://www.xiph.org/xiphname.shtml
The Xiph names page seems to be in UTF-8, but its meta tag mentions
ISO 8859-15, which can cause problems with raw characters for the
pronunciations.
I propose the use of the International Phonetic Alphabet. How about

Newer iPods can now play Vorbis

Hi,
Hi, thank you for closing ticket 543, "vorbiscomment man page not
exhaustive". :)
https://trac.xiph.org/ticket/543
If it's not too much of a burden, could you also apply this patch,
please? It's pretty straight-forward. Thank you. :)
Cheers,

Firefox plugin to auto convert audio files into Ogg
per > http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=63653
The above thread on the Fedora Forums about a script that can
automatically convert one audio format to another got me thinking >
wouldn't it be fantastic to be able to right click on an MP3 (or other
audio file) while in Firefox, and automatically have the file
converted into Ogg at the same time as the file is being saved

Yet Another Vorbis Portable
Hullo, folks.
As the wiki is *still* down, I'm sending this to the list again.
The EZAV EMP-400 is a small flash-based portable player with an OLED
screen. I think it's still in development, because I can't find
information on its pricing anywhere. The memory capacity isn't visible
anywhere either, but the previous device from EZAV had 256 megs of
memory.

Concerning 'tagging proposal'
Hi,
It is my opinion that a 'tagging standard' which aims to cater to everyone,
caters to noone. Tagging style ultimately depend upon tagging tastes; I
personally think it would be unwise to try to match everybody's tastes.
Now, having a 'tagging proposal' instead of a 'tagging standard,' hardly
seems worth the effort, to put it mildly. I doubt anyone would want to

Independent implementations?
Hullo,
When people ask me what Vorbis's license terms are, I usually tell
them that the bitstream format is in the public domain, that the
reference libraries are licensed under a BSD-like license, and that
the example programs are licensed under the GNU GPL. (Note the
distinction between filespec and implementation here.)
Meanwhile, Theora.org's FAQ doesn't say anything about the

Flac files differ?
Hi.
Is it normal that if I encode the same file with the same options,..
that the encoded files have same size but are different?

brainfart #67453 - hyper-index
I don''t know if this has been suggested before but..
What about adding support for a bookmark or
hyperlinked index?
The idea is that a large compilation such as a long
speech or an album would be maintained as a single
file, but on playback, the player would show numerous
''tracks'' which are really just bookmarks relating to
starting position of the specific part or

Title formatting for players/plugins
Hi, Peter Pawlowski's new (1.15beta) winamp decoder plugin seems quite
nice, in my opinion..
The "title formatting logic" is what I've been dreaming of for ages..
Right now I've chosen "%artist / [[%[abbr20]album][-%[num2]tracknumber]
/ ]%title[ - %version]"
I get titles such as "Artist / Title"or "Artist / Album / Title" or
"Artist /

Some notes on the FAQ
Hi. : )
I was updating my unofficial Korean Ogg Vorbis FAQ, when I noticed the following:
While #ext is no longer listed in the FAQ contents, http://www.vorbis.com/faq.psp#ext still exists.
IMHO http://www.vorbis.com/faq.psp#stream looks a little awkward. I suggest something like: Icecast streams Ogg vorbis to playsers like XMMS, Winamp 2, and foobar2000, which are all capable of...

Ogg Tags in Windows File properties?
I'm curious if anyone has developed a Windows shell extension to enable Ogg tags to be viewed and maintained in the File Properties window. This currently supports at least MP3 & WMA file tags. I would like to install one if there is one.
I managed to find an Info tool tip extension for Ogg files.

Codebook verification
Is there a utility available that will dump the codebook information for a
given Vorbis file. This would be useful to compare my own implementation
against as a benchmark. Actually, a utility that would dump all of the
Vorbis metadata would be quite useful as a development tool.
