Request for Standardization: classical music TAGS
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- [ Sorry for sending this twice; I sent it to the vorbis-dev list by mistake. ] The ALBUM, ARTIST, TITLE, and TRACKNUMBER tags aren't sufficient for classical music. MP3 muffed it, but since Vorbis is so flexible, I'd like to propose that ogg123 recognize and display the following optional tags, instead of giving an error message that it doesn't

Annoying semi-bug in flac
Dear all, I use flac a lot and find it really useful. However, there is one slight issue that keeps bugging me. When encoding/checking files with long filenames, you get output like this (usually much longer): 30 Gardiner, John Eliot Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists - 30 Recitative Und sie kamen eilend.flac: ok 21 Gardiner, John Eliot Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists - 21

Re: proposal1
In an effort to redeem my earlier flame, here is my attempt at rewording the standard to correct the flaws I see in it. The latest draft as writting by Jonathan is prefixed with >>. My comments have > before them. My rewritten version includes no line prefix. >>Jonathon Walther wrote: >David Mitchell commented: A Modest Proposal >>Proposal for a Vorbis TAG Standard

(Classical) Request for Standardization of expanded TAGS
A month or two ago I sent an email to this list proposing to expand the list of "standard" tags for Ogg Vorbis. No tag would be required, but if you wanted to encode certain types of information about a file, you could use a standard tag. I went through the whole discussion, and revised my proposal in light of all the comments from everyone. Here is the updated proposal. This

Tag changes
A few days ago, I initiated a conversation with Jonathan Walther to seek his advice on how he might tag a CD that I ogg'ed. Out of this discussion, we decided to make a couple of changes to the proposed standard. 1) A new LABELNO tag was added to the list. This would contain the record label's catalogue number. Generally available on the face of the CD. Probably more useful than

Fruity Loops
With Winetricks, Fruity Loops seems to be working well. The only thing that is not working right now is the packs. I can't figure out why the packs aren't working. If I click on the bass pack, it produces sound; if I click on one of the choir packs, no sound is produced. Linux reads the bass pack as pcm encoded. Linux isn't able to read all the packs that aren't working.

oggcat or other ways to combine theora videos (with or without re-encoding)?
hi guys, first of all, i'd like to ask if there any crossplatform software/service ( gui is also better, an online application like firefogg is great, or at least a command line tools for any platform) to combine theora videos, other than oggcat... i am doing some art projects that people should be able to remix featured theora videos and i find oggcat very usefull in theory but not in

People, Anybody knows what mean this message in my CLI: [Apr 1 16:58:34] WARNING[3845]: asterisk.c:3050 canary_thread: The canary is no more. He has ceased to be! Strange Error -- ASterisk 1.6
All, I just noticed this in my logs, and am rather lost as to what module it pertains to. I would assume pseudo-realtime priority for the process, but I am looking for a little confirmation from the group: [Apr 28 12:28:36] WARNING[20773] asterisk.c: The canary is no more. Re: [advocacy] current tshirt/slogan submissions
Two notes on my T-shirt design... Had I known there was an official logo/font for the Ogg Vorbis and Xiph I would have used it. Sorry if this causes any problems. :o) #ifdef Stand_on_SoapBox As for the phenomenon vs. standard I think I may want to explain. It seems that whenever the media reports on Ogg (or ANY open source project for that matter) they often use the word phenomenon to

Mailing list HOWTO (Unofficial)
A few tips when submitting to this or any mailing list. I may be preaching to the choir, but some of you can't carry a tune. 1) Make your subject short and descriptive. Avoid the words "help" or "Samba" in the subject. The readers of this list already know that a) you need help, and b) you are writing about samba (of course, you may need to distinguish between Samba PDC

Marketing Side of Ruby on Rails
All, I''ve posted a little piece on www.ryanripley.com about the marketing factors that lead / are leading to RoR''s success. It would be great to hear some feedback if some of you... Sorry if this is a shameless plug and / or inappropriate for this list... I''m simply curious what the "choir" thinks about my take on this. Thanks, --Ryan

It's not pinin', it's passed on! This library is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! This is a late library! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! Re: Samba wins eWeek and PC Magazine "Innovation in I nfrastructure" (i3) award for best Enterprise Software !
Luke, You should be able to tell from my signature that I am a UNIX sys admin and an Oracle DBA. I hate MS as much as you do, but I have realized that they control everything, and we are going to have to live with it. I don't think anyone or thing can ever fight them. Hell, Bill snubbs his nose at the US DOJ. You are preaching to the choir. I work in an environment where interns think

Looking for help on a collaborative effort
Hello everyone, Sorry for the long post, but I?d like to propose something to the group. I''d like to see if there is interest in working on a collaborative project (eventually a set of projects as things grow), that will a) Give everyone more experience in working on some of these new technologies, b) The ability to go as cutting-edge as possible), and c) Share in the

Webcam streaming with ptalarbvorm
Hey all! I'm sure you've all been missing my webcam stream, so I decided to start it up again (also, I wanted to do it for my family overseas). However, this time, I'm doing things a little bit differently. For starters, the encoder is the current (as of about an hour ago) ptalarbvorm branch which is destined to become libtheora 1.2. Another difference is that I'm using
