winamp bitrate (kbps) display wrong
I have noticed that when playing OGGs in Winamp, the bitrate displayed is always much higher than the average bitrate of the file. This was using the plugin that comes with Winamp v2.80 (v1.2 b7) For example, the latest oggenc encoded a song to 77kbps - I verified that this matched the filesize correctly. Apart from the first and last few seconds of the song, Winamp always displays between 85 -

RC3 Tagging/Encoding and Winamp answer
First of all, I'm using WinXP and love vorbis! :-) Since I just joined the mailing list, I figured I would answer the Winamp question. Winamp has different EQ algorithms - they have a "fast layer 2/3 EQ" option for mp3s, and they have a PCM EQ for all other formats (wma, ogg, etc.). While the mp3 EQ sounds ok, the PCM EQ (which gets applied to ogg files) is absolutely horrible. I

Oggenc problems in apache or cron
I would like to run oggenc on existing wavs through a perl/cgi script in apache 2.0 in OS Linux mandrake 9.1. I have a problem where the script hangs after about 20sec worth of wav, whether it would be 20sec through a 60 sec song or on the second file of a 10sec-a-file batch. The same problem occurs if i run a cron job to encode any found wav files on my hdd. Running the script in shell encodes

flac with oggenc?
Hi all. Now since flac is part of xiph, will oggenc handle flac files as input? IMO it makes sense, because flac is loseless, as are wavs and moreover you should get automatic copying of tags from flac files to vorbis files. I know, that this can be done with shell script, but direct support in oggenc seems nicer ;-) Next, from last Ogg traffic and May minutes It seems version 1.1 of vorbis

Hello, thanks, and how do I...
First of all, congratulations on the success of the Ogg Vorbis format - I am now the proud owner of an Ogg player (iRiver iHP120). Any starting advice for a newbie Ogger would be appreciated! I have ripped about 16 albums with Audiograbber, Ogged them, and loaded them onto the player. The first problem I found was that Exact Audio Copy was reading silence, so I junked that. The second is that one

oggenc scripting/parameter question
I ripped an entire CD into WAV format using "Exact Audio Copy" software, and now I want to convert those 17 wave files into Ogg format. I have a DOS batch file that I've used before for CD conversion, but I want to add a comment saying that the sound file was ripped using "Exact Audio Copy". I don't see an option to add a regular comment to an Ogg file via

oggenc of wav file loses one second at end of track.. why?
Hi, I recently noticed that a relativly short wav file loses the last second (truncated perhaps) when I ran it through oggenc. Originally the wav was 25 seconds, the ogg is 24 seconds. This happens at various quality levels, and I saved several copys of the file on a webserver at http://array26.rockefeller.edu/www/ogg/ If anyone wants to confirm my observations. The command lines were:

oggenc crashes on WAV input (with q > 4.99)
Hi all, I've got a strange problem. I was just encoding a new CD I bought a couple of days ago (Muse - Hullabaloo Soundtrack) when I ran into a strange bug. After ripping track 8, CD 1 with cdparanoia under OpenBSD/alpha, I wanted to encode it with oggenc (latest version from the OpenBSD-current ports tree, (`oggenc -v` says 'OggEnc v1.0 (libvorbis 1.0)')). Here's the output :

Oggenc: Bug or feature?
Hi, I just came across some behaviour in oggenc that I didn't expect and wondered if this was intentional or not. I was wanting to encode a Cd which has more than one artist, but several tracks per artist. The command I entered took the form of: oggenc -n "%n - %a - %t.ogg" -a artist1 -N 1 -t title1 -N 2 -t title2 -N 3 -t title3 -a artist2 -N 4 -t title4 -N 5 -t title5 -a
