Vorbis decoders and equalizer
When I activate the equalizer in WinAmp, QCD, and Sonic Foundry SIREN Jukebox, I get a funny "washed out" sound to it. Vorbis sounds fine without it, but I miss the extra bass and what-not. I was wondering why this happens? --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to

just wondering...
Has anyone from the Vorbis team been in contact with the LAME camp? I'm sure with their knowledge, the people developing LAME could make a major contribution to the OGG development, if they were willing. Sure, MP3 and OGG are in some ways majorly different, but they are similarities, right? With the latest stable release of 3.91, I think the LAME crew has done their best and pulled a helluva

Live stream equalizer
Uh, WinAmp 2 with Oddsock? You'll probably want an EQ-plugin though, since WinAmp's default isn't great. >From: assorgia@tin.it >Reply-To: icecast@xiph.org >To: icecast@xiph.org >Subject: [icecast] Live stream equalizer >Date: Thu, 30 Oct 2003 10:40:00 +0100 > >Question 2: > >I've been asked to stream a live event (no music, just talking). the

Winamp support at last!
I've just spotted that the latest version of Winamp (v2.80) has support built in (not requiring the plugin to be installed) at last. At least according the the "new features" section. some EAQUAL results
For those who are interested, I've run 3 EAQUAL tests on both the LAME and OGG encoders: LAME with the --alt-standard preset (with and without --nspsytune) and OGGENC (RC3) with -q 6 (my personal "sweet spot") I am somewhat unsure though about the validity of these tests, since the original and decoded files were not the same size (2 KB difference). The LAME encoded files were also

Live stream equalizer
I was under the impression that "PCM equalizer" means it only equalizes the PCM codec, i.e. WAV files. Have you noticed a significant quality improvement in the EQ for compressed media: MP3, Vorbis, MPC? WINAMP & FLAC
Hi, This word for a little problem : when using the Equalizer integrated with Winamp v 5.24, this has no action on FLAC files! With MP3 files, no problem, and when reading FLAC files using the Creative Equalizer, no problems too! Is this a bug in Winamp ? (Un)Usefulness of Vorbisgain?
I've just Replaygained several of my Vorbis albums with Vorbisgain, ranging from 80's metal to present day soft rock. What I don't understand is why does Vorbisgain actually make all tracks QUIETER? I see an average of -7db on most albums. And after that, not only are they substantially quieter than my MP3s (which is a pain), but it also fails to really "even out" the volume.

When will quality increase be unnoticable?
I started thinking about this after doing a little testing with AAC, MP3 and Ogg Vorbis. I was comparing the different formats at similiar bitrates. After a while I finally realized that they all sound more or less the same to me. >From 160 kbps on, I usually cannot detect any difference between a lossy encoding and the original source. If LAME is used, I have to strain to notice anything at

ogg: another tag?
I've learned that I can make a tag with vorbisgain that tells the player at what volume a track is to be played to achieve a certain level of loudness. Is it possible that there will be a tag that tells the player for instance to add more bass when it plays a track? Ore more treble? With such tags it would be possible to customize the sound of a track according to my wishes - without

Live stream equalizer
Question 2: I've been asked to stream a live event (no music, just talking). the problem is that the audio source is not perfect, having a lot of bass preponderance. Now I have to adjust this audio source or I won't be able to keep the compression standard (16 Kbps). I'm searching for an mp3 streamer with equalizing capabilities that runs under windows. At the moment I'm

quality settings
ARGH! I am at a complete loss as to which OGG quality settings to use: 8? 10? 3? I'd like to be able to listen to my primarily Rock oriented music on a high-end system (though I don't own one - yet) without any noticeable sound degradation, but I don't want to go total overkill with -q 10. With LAME, I at least used to know 192 kbps with -q0 was a perfect size/quality proportion. I

version number
After downloading Vorbis 1.0 the other day and encoding a couple of songs with it, I checked "file info" and noticed that their version number was still "0". Until now I'd always assumed "version" meant the version of libvorbis, and that after the 1.0 release it'd switch to "1". Does "version" means something completely different then? Or

Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a Bug Report
Hi, there. While waiting for the encoder RC1, I will report some minor problems I experienced with Peter's Winamp decoder. First, I am using Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a with Winamp v.2.76 on Windows 98 SE. 1. When the buttons of Playlist Editor are extended, the part extended in playlist screen seems to be flickering when an Ogg file is being played. 2. I check the option of

WinAmp plug-in based on RC1?
Hi, I just downloaded this and it says it's based on RC1 in the about box. Is that a typo or is the plug-in not updated? Sorry, that's not true: Please have a look at Winamp in Windows, you'll see that Winamp does not have a title bar there. The equalizer window which can be opened from

RC3 Tagging/Encoding and Winamp answer
First of all, I'm using WinXP and love vorbis! :-) Since I just joined the mailing list, I figured I would answer the Winamp question. Winamp has different EQ algorithms - they have a "fast layer 2/3 EQ" option for mp3s, and they have a PCM EQ for all other formats (wma, ogg, etc.). While the mp3 EQ sounds ok, the PCM EQ (which gets applied to ogg files) is absolutely horrible. I

equalizer api
Somebody reported a bug against zinf that the equalizer did not work with oggvorbis streams. Upon looking, I noticed that while the mp3 decoder (xing) has an equalizer interface to modify the decoding, I could not find an equivalent for ogg. Does the beast exist? Should it?
