psycho-acoustic model in ogg vorbis
I wonder what psycho-acoustic model is used in ogg vorbis. Did they create their own model (this requires big listening tests) ? Or is it something that was already there, like gpsycho ? <p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-dev-request@xiph.org'

Vorbis for PlayStation
you can write your own software mixer that can decode MP3 on the PS2 so I can't see why you can't do that with ogg, however, even mp3 is processor intensive and programers are not going to give up that much processor power which will decrease or detract from the rest of the game. However, I'm sure there are some people out there that have been able to work around this. Regardless, ps1

test vectors for OggVorbis encoder
Hi, We are working on Oggvorbis encoder porting on embedded platform. Where can we find good test vectors (wav files) for testing OggVorbis encoder? Does anybody have any idea. Parul Embedded Engineer Einfochips Ltd

16 KHz clip-off?
Hello, congratulations to the Ogg Vorbis team - RC2 sounds good. But... RC2 in 128 kbps mode seems to clip off all frequencys beyond 16 KHz. On the tracks I tested Beta 4 gave response even beyond 18 KHz. Some testings on a randomly chosen track: (other tracks gave similar results) Artist: Judas Priest Album: Jugulator Title: Bullet Train Beta4: 127 kbps, ~ 18 KHz (!) RC2: 132 kbps (!), ~ 16

Vorbis/Lame
Hi, I think that it would be a good thing to know more about those 2 projects (and also the future patent free format). I think that many people as me know about Lame, but not about Vorbis, and vice-versa. It would be fine that someone (perhaps the maintainer) of every project would introduce to both group of people those projects. 2 things would be interesting (to my mind): - to know about the

German translation of OggEnc
Hello, I translated OggEnc (RC3) into German language. Nothing fancy. Neither Goethe nor Schiller. Could anyone please make a Win32 build? I don“t have a Win32 compiler. Sourcecode of modified files is available at http://www.metalunleashed.de/oggenc_ger.zip Just replace RC3 files with the modified versions. I hope this is useful for anyone. bye, Maik Merten -- MetalUnleashed:

New Winamp release
Hi, <p>today, Winamp unaskedly notified me of a new release, v2.78. I checked the what's-new-page on winamp.com (it does only mention a few fixes and cddb2 support, not that I needed that) and downloaded the full install, hoping that Ogg Vorbis support is finally included. D'oh, since I installed it into the 2.77 install directory will all the plugins already installed, I can't

Some pre-RC1 listening tests
Hello everyone, ff123 compiled Monty's branch of the RC1 encoder, see his post on r3mix.net forum: http://66.96.216.160/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=c&action=display&num=994299736&start=30 Anyway it only supports ~128kbps mode, so I did a quick listening test with some files that bugged vorbis beta4. grace.wav - the right channel is still a bit watery, and I think this can be seen

Psycho-acoustics research
Hi. I'm an undergraduate linguistics major and computer science minor at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and am taking a couple classes this semester which give me the opportunity to do a research project - one on introductory acoustics in the physics department, and one in the linguistics department on phonetics and phonology. I've got an idea, but I'd like to hear from anyone

Vorbis 1.0 before the end of the year?
Hi guys. IMO now it's definitely time for finalizing Vorbis and throwing it in the arena. Two reasons: - RC2 sounds wonderfully well, I'm really amazed how good it is.. and I personally think there's little room for further improvement in sound quality.. - portable music devices are starting to take off (see Waitec, Creative, Apple and many other vendors). Wouldn't be good

Removing Vorbis tags
Hello everyone, Was wondering if there was an option or program somewhere that can delete all tags associated with an Ogg Vorbis file? Nouveau on GeForce 7950GTX (NV49)
Hi everyone, I just finished installing the current git of the nouveau driver for my NV49 based 7950GTX. I attempted this because I've been continually frustrated by the constantly degrading 2D performance of X under the nvidia and nv drivers. Webpages that do any kind of compositing in Mozilla will burn CPU all day long. I'm happy to say that I'm writing because I didn't have

Ogg and Vorbis questions
>From the top of vorbisfile.c: /* A 'chained bitstream' is a Vorbis bitstream that contains more than one logical bitstream arranged end to end (the only form of Ogg multiplexing allowed in a Vorbis bitstream; grouping [parallel multiplexing] is not allowed in Vorbis) */ Is this paragraph talking about multiple streams in a single Vorbis stream in an Ogg, or is it talking

Lossless/lossy hybrid?
Monkey's Audio lossless compressor (currently win32 only, free but not open-source except decoder) author is thinking to implement a kind of audiophile-quality lossy compression which would filter "noise bits" that are hard to encode lossless but which are (or should be) inaudible and thus improve lossless compression (avg. 300-450kbps). I think that implementing something like this

just an idea about quality evaluation
Hello I had an idea about judging the quality of ogg vorbis (or any other lossy codec) I took a wave-file and encoded it to ogg. Then decoded ogg to wav and inverted it's phase. When mixing the original wav with the phase-inverted decoded ogg-file, any identic parts of compressed and uncompressed audio should be eliminated. Of course there's always a "rest" of sound because

about the icecast mailing list
Hi, <p>sorry for posting this here, but my mail would make things worse on the icecast list. ;P A mail daemon is spamming it because some subscribers mailbox is full. Every bounced mail starts another notification by that stupid daemon. I mailed tech_support@caisnet.com about the issue and got an automated reply so far. At least my mail reached them. Let's hope they fix their
