Low-bitrate-compatible vorbis decoder/player?
Hi list,
I'm doing some experiments with relatively low bitrate encoding, and can't
find a player/decoder that works consistently. Winamp and freeamp seem to
choke up when you try to play low-bitrate vorbis files.
There's mention of an ogg123 player/decoder, but it doesn't seem to be
includeed with the vorbis-tools package as advertised. (Does anyone know
where it is? Is

Metadata and bad player behaviour : cut sound for short time when receiving metadata (kh versions of ices/icecast)
Hello,
I was trying to add metadata to my OGG stream (ices 2,0-kh59, icecast
2.0-kh51).
It works... but the players are doing a small sound cut at metadata
reception :
- VLC (maybe 1/3sec cut)
- JORBIS (java. maybe 1/10sec, because I can have set higher priority to
sound processing and not to comment handling)
(player plateform: Mac OS X 1.3.6)
With VLC... I can say comments are unusable,

audio mumbo-jumbo
Can someone *please* help me out in finding some good starting
placing to learning the basics of what I will need to know for developing
a *very simple* audio player?
I wanting to use Ogg Vorbis in some thesis work, but am unfamiliar
with the audio domain. Any help in find references (books, webpages,
people) on development of streaming audio player would be greatly
appreciated as well (I

Can you provide me some information on music players using ogg.
Hi ,
I am planning to use an open source .ogg player on my ARM simulator on
QEMU ( for ARM Application Baseboard ) .
So far I have been able to bring up a Linux kernel 2.6.26.5 on the
simulator . Right not I want an open source ogg vorbis player which I can
use to call the libraries and play some files . However the catch is that I
need the APIs exposed of the player application to me . I am

vorbis players (or lack of) for mac
Perhaps the devel list would be better, but a) i'm not subscribed to it
just now and b) I'm lazy (dons flame-retardant clothing)...
frankly, i'm rather tired of the lack of free ogg vorbis players for Mac
OS; it doesn't look like iTunes is going to support the format anytime
soon (and i have some real issues with its interface, too)...so, since
I've decided to learn Mac OS

Vorbis on Legacy hardware
I'm currently in the process of making a linux distro made specifically
to run on legacy hardware. My test system is a compaq 486/33. I was
wondering if anyone has tried playing ogg vorbis on a system this old.
Does it play without skipping or anything? If so, are there any really
small and efficient media players that would run on this kind of
hardware? If that doesn't work I

Streaming vorbis support
Hi!
I'm setting up a streaming audio server for the student radio here in
Stockholm.
I'm of course going to primarily use Ogg/Vorbis, but I'd like to know
how well
Ogg/Vorbis streaming is supported on different platforms. I know it works
well Windows (for example w/ recent Winamps) and Unices (XMMS, ogg123 etc.)
but I'm not so sure about other platforms, most importantly Mac-OS

Vorbis still glitching on metadata update?
Greetings,
I am trying to track down a bug with intermittant glitching in our
Vorbis streams.
I am running Icecast 2.3.2 on Ubuntu 9.04.
Several Vorbis clients seem to glitch on some (not all) metadata
updates. As we update metadata 3 to 4 times a minute, this is
something we are trying to fix, VLC gives the following output on
metadata update:

Some simple Q's about Vorbis...
Hello all!
I am wondering if anyone can help me locate some information concerning
streaming Vorbis files. I am needing to locate the information for a
multimedia networking class I am taking so I can learn all this audio
and networking mumbo-jumbo.
For the class, I need to locate 3 streaming media types and answer the
following questions:

streaming Vorbis: trials & errors with Icecast 2
Greetings:
Okay, here's where I'm at so far.
Icecast 2 builds without problems. I edit the icecast.xml config file
as seen in the server output below:

Vorbis newbie questions
Greetings:
I'm writing an article for the O'Reilly Network, and the focus is on
streaming audio with Linux. I would like to include material concerning
Vorbis, but I need some information:
1) What's up with www.vorbis.com and www.icecast.org ? Can anyone
say when they'll be back on-line ?
2) Where should I go to get the latest Vorbis sources ?
3) What players,

all players stop after some hours
Dear list,
i have a test stream running (ices/2.0, icecast/2.0). It streams
oggVorbis files (encoded with -q -1, mono) in an endless loop. And no
matter which player i try (WinAMP 3, WinAMP 5.03, newest ogg123 from
yesterday's CVS) - they all stop playing after a couple of hours. WinAMP
just stops, ogg123 sometimes even crashes totally. Ices runs for days
without any glitches, but

Speex player for Linux
Where can I find a Speex player for Linux? Is there one yet? I haven't found
one, only the decoder. Or can I just set the decoder to output to the audio
device?
Thanks,

vorbis tool ogg123/oggenc running out of sync while streaming.
Or rather - the ogg123 seems to run faster than the oggenc.
Based on the vorbis toots 1.0_1,3
I've got (on freebsd) a small streaming server which essentially takes the
oss/vox audion input; uses the code from oggenc to make a stream and then
a bit of apache 2.0 to dole that stream out over TCP to various clients:
setup oss /dev/dspW0.0 16 bit stereo 44k1.

Multichannel vorbis.
Hi.
I have two CDs that the artists inteded for simultaneous listening. They
even provide instructions on how to start two CD players with the
minimal time shift.
(for those interested - the CDs are Neurosis/Times Of Grace and Tribes
Of Neurot/Grace)
I've heard that Vorbis can encode multiple streams. I've already encoded
both albums into regular 2-channel .ogg files.

Hi!
Is there any Java Vorbis player that works on
MIDP 2.0 platforms (mobile phones) ?
I know the pure Java players, but I'm looking for a mobile version.

Request for support: add Vorbis to RioVolt CD player
I just recently got myself the SonicBlue RioVolt Mp3/WMA CD player, which
has upgradeable firmware.
I've sent a request to:
customersupport@diamondmm.com
asking them to add support for Ogg Vorbis in the next release of their
firmware, so that it will be able to read Ogg CDs
and display its tags properly.
It would be great if others could e-mail the same address and ask for the

Announce: OMTK Javascript Vorbis player
Hi again,
well, it's not really true that I can present a pure Javascript Vorbis
player, but I've been playing along with a few ideas I had to put back
last year as it showed that I was not really able to get a proper Vorbis
player working with Flash 9. Now, with Flash 10 and the performance
optimizations I've been able to achieve, it seemed as a good idea to go
on. Basically,

DIY hardware player -> Vorbis??
Hello all,
I ran across this link from slashdot and it looks like it has a lot of
potential:
http://www.pjrc.com/tech/mp3/
It is a built-it-yourself kit project for an mp3 player. Although there
are still some things that need to be refined, this could be one path to
getting a cheap Vorbis hardware player. As I said, it is currently set
up for mp3 files, but the firmware is supposedly
