Somewhat OT, but it looks like a new player has entered the streaming MP3
server arena.

QTSS v4 was announced at the QuickTime Live conference today. Amongst its
other features, it can now stream MP3s to any Internet-capable MP3
listener program.

Relay Planning (many questions)
Hi, I am looking to replace a Quicktime streaming Cluster
with Icecast 2.2.0.
I have a couple questions:
QTSS Supports multicast to multiple relays, does Icecast?
I understand that Icecast creates a Master / slave relationship
so that the following should work:
1) Send content to Master
2) Have the 4 systems in the cluster connect to the master as a slave
system
What happens if the master

Encoding or Playback problem?
Hi all,
Have trouble encoding / playing back OGG using WinAmp + plugin. I encoded
the files from .WAV with Ogg drop RC2. Seems to be ok. When I try and play
them back though I get very very weird sound effects (some kind of
"wobbling", some bass frequencies that are usually in the background seem to
get more emphasised and they seem to have some kind of strange echo / reverb

Mime types
Hello,
Does anyone know how to configure the mime type for ogg on Apache (on a
FreeBSD box)? I added application/x-ogg to the mime.types file in Apache,
but Nutscrape6.2 and Mozilla 0.9.5 just show the file in txt format, IE5x on
the other hand kindly asks me what to do with the file (open it or download
it). I also added the mime-type in Nutscrape62 and Mozilla and added Winamp
as helper app

And thats only a player. What about an (Open Source) encoder? Nah, I'll
stick with OGG for the time being.

Dead Gateway Detection
Hi,
I have a linux box loaded with RH7.1, 3 ethernet with load balance on 2 ISP.
In theory, if one router stop to work (I have turn off for this try), the Dead Gateway Detection,
would re-instradate alla traffic on other link. This not work...someone have more experience on this?

Mocking and stubbing Rails'' association extensions
I''m having a lot of trouble stubbing out an association extension for
some view tests. Example rails code modeling a music album:
class Album < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :songs do
def streamable
find(:all, :conditions => ''streamable = 1'')
end
end
end
So for a given Album instance (say @album), I need to be able to stub

Flac encoding of 88.2kHz files -- not streamble?
Hi.
I'm trying to encode some high sample rate music (88.2kHz) into flac.
When trying this with flac 1.1.4 I get the following error:

Problems with xmms & freeamp
Hi all,
I've just set up a test icecast2 server (download and compiled from cvs
about an hour ago) - very simple setup, all it does is use ices to stream
in an .ogg file that I converted from an mp3, using mpg123 & oggenc.
(I've used the sample conf files with the directory stuff removed. I've
also tried it with and without the re-encoding lines from the
ices-playlist.xml file).

Vorbis ACM codec
Is the Vorbis ACM codec still being maintained?
Then I encode an avi with Vorbis audio, the sound gets out of sync
after a while no matter what I try.

[Flac-users] Subset and non-Subset files

That was over my head -- not the post, but the information at that URL.
Does it mean that a non-Subset FLAC file isn't streamable, that a
decoder can't read successive parts of the FLAC file and generate
successive parts of the WAV?

Encoding Options
I have read FLAC's "--help", the man-page, and the HTML documentaion, but
there are a few things that I don't understand.
1. I'll start with the thing I'm most confused about. The --best option is
synonymous with -l 12 -b 4608 -m -e -r 6. Why is that? Is not -l 32 better
that l- 12? And you can have -r 0,8 without using --lax, and -r 0,16 with
--lax.
2. The --lax option

Finding out the duration of an Ogg stream
Hello people!
I'm developing a Java Ogg media player applet and I have encountered a
problem while creating a progress bar. I need to know how long, in
samples or seconds, the Ogg stream that I'm playing is, and I need to
know it before I have downloaded the entire stream. Problem is, I don't
see how I could do that.
I could provide a "duration" argument, but that would
