Data Frame Column Name Attribute
I am attempting to add a calculated column to a data frame. Basically,
adding a column called "newcol2" which are the stock closing prices from 1
day to the next.
The one little hang up is the name of the column. There seems to be an
additional data column name included in the attributes (dimnames?). So
when i run HEAD(DATAFRAMENAME) i get the column name = "Open". but

PR #927 -- R crash on huge CSV file (PR#928)
I tried to run the same dataset with R-1.2.3 on Linux, compiled from the
source tarball. After 7 hours, it was still grinding away and had not
crashed. I had to kill it. "gtop" was showing it with a real size around 160
MB, same as the peak on the Windows 2000 environment. This is on the same
hardware as the Windows run; my machine is dual-booted Windows 2000 and Red
Hat Linux 7.1. If I

Odd VPN connectivity problem
Dear all
My laptop running Arch Linux is domain joined to the office AD domain. I run winbind locally (smb.conf below.) I can
use Kerberos and cifs with autofs to make Windows shares appear on demand. pam_winbind etc just works. Lovely.
I then fire up my laptop road-warrior VPN - I need to appear to be coming from the office for a lot of my customers. At
this point my AD connection stops

Creating a graphics window (in Windows, with RGui) that is not constrained to the RGui Window
Hi, all,
Using RGui, is it possible to create a graphics window that can be moved
outside of the RGui window? (This can be done--in fact must be
done--using Rterm, but I wish to use RGui.)
My interest for this is to use two monitors: in "my private monitor" I
wish to execute R code in the Rgui window; in "the public monitor" I
want the audience to see the results in the

A bug (?) in Rgui Configuration Editor (buffer lines) in R1.2.0 for Windows (Rgui.exe)

Today (December 18th) I downloaded R1.2.0 for Windows from

Change background color in script window in Windows Rgui
Does anyone know how to change the background color of the script window(s) in Rgui on Windows?
I can use the "Gui Preferences" menu item under the Edit menu has an option that lets you change the background color for the console window and any help/info windows that pop up, but the script window(s) still have the white background. Am I missing a setting somewhere? Is this a missing

Rgui crash and Macro Magic
A consistent Rgui crash (1062 on XP) I was experiencing
seemed initially to be solved by following R Win FAQ 2.12:
placing a generic microsoft msvcrt.exe in rw1062\bin.
But the crash problem quickly reappeared.
Exiting Macro Magic, a keyboard macro utility,
did solve the problem, apparently permanently
according to my little "crossover design" study.

Rgui.exe - Error while tuning svm
Hello,
if I try to tune my svm with the code:
Tune <- tune.svm(Data.Train, Class.Train, type="C-classification",
kernel="radial", gamma = 2^(-1:1), cost = 2^(2:4))
i get a windows Messagebox with a error in the application "Rgui.exe" and
the message: "Die Anweisung in 0x6c48174d verweist auf Speicher 0x00000000.

Rgui.exe crashed with update.packages()
Dear R-help,
(Tried this on R-1.5.1 for Windows, pre-compiled binary from CRAN, on NT4,
PIII w/256MB ram.)
I'm running into a strange problem. If I do the following:
library(tcltk)
detach()
update.packages()
Rgui would crash. If I start Rgui fresh and run update.packages(), it works
just fine. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas?
