Progress on crashing
I''m using my SpaceMonkeys game as a testbed to try to get rid of
crashing problems. Earlier today, it would crash for me almost
immediately, every time. Now, I was able to get about 50 turns into the
game!
I mentioned the first big change in a different email. The new change I
just checked in was to add the DISOWN flag to Window#set_sizer. This is
the first time (that I know of) that we

Some patches.
Hi,
in my path of getting the controls sample to work nicely, I fixed some
classes on the way, see the attached diffs. I had some difficulties, but
could track down all stupid bugs and am now almost happy with the code
:)
(I had the complete ImageHandler hieracy implemented at some time, but
than I discovered the error was not in unloaded ImageHandlers but in the
controls-program which does not

gem version numbering
Hi all,
I am concerned about the version number for our gem. Currently, we have
it set to 1.9, indicating that it is "before the upcoming 2.0 release".
However, there is nothing in the version number that indicates this is a
"preview" "alpha" "buggy" release.
The gem version numbering scheme does not allow things like 2.0-pre. It
also requires each public

wxruby2 alpha status
Hi all,
How soon can we do our alpha (binary gem) release?
1. I would like to get the samples working a bit better, but am ok
simply documenting most of the current problems. Do the samples crash
every few minutes for other people? Or is it just me? I would like to
have a copyright/license comment at the top of every sample file before
the alpha release.
2. I would like to receive and merge a

0.0.36 tagged and released
Hi
I''m pleased to let you know that wxruby2-preview 0.0.36 is now available
on Rubyforge. Binary gems to follow...
To check out a clean copy from SVN and build from source:
svn co svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/wxruby/tags/wxruby2/0.0.36
cd 0.0.36
rake gem WXRUBY_VERSION=0.0.36
From my reading of SVN docs it''s probably wise for developers to
checkout anonymously as a bit of

Wx::Window#get_text_extent patch
Here''s a patch to fix Wx::Window#get_text_extent - it requires that the
patches from teh last message are applied, to enable *INPUT etc typemaps.
Roy - though the function works correctly when called from Ruby, it
still causes a crash when called internally when clicking on a Wx::Grid
cell. Saw your message on SWIG mailing list, hopefully someone there can
help out.

Tagged wxruby2 v0.0.29, plus added more directors
Since things seemed to be somewhat stable (that is, wxruby2 compiles and
runs on all three platforms), I tagged what has been there for a couple
days as v0_0_29. Nothing magic about it, but it had been a while since I
had tagged.
Then I worked on adding directors to the classes that don''t have them,
in the hopes of avoiding more segfault crashes during garbage
collection. I was able

doc generator now in CVS
Hi
Just a quick note to let you know that the Textile doc generation stuff
is now in CVS. There is a moderate amount of documentation in
rake/rakedoc.rb in case you feel like generating your own local copy.
The only prerequisite is the Ruby ''redcloth'' library.
There''s also some info in doc/lib which might be some help if you want
to tweak the output.
cheers

announcement
Hi
Now we''ve got the download problems nailed, shall we do an announcement
on comp.lang.ruby? I can do it if you''re really busy, but Kevin I think
you have first refusal as you''re owed the biggest chunk of kudos for
getting us this far.
re patch backlog: no worries - just clearing the decks before having
another go at integrating wxScintilla - but I can''t

Wxruby2 gemspec
Hi
A gemspec for installation of wxuby-swig via rubygems. It assumes the
end-users will compile the pre-swigged .cpp files & that that the main
require file will be wx.rb (as per Kevin''s suggestion). runrake.rb is
just a helper script that runs rake correctly within the rubygems
installation process.

gem build wxruby2.gemspec

wxruby.so error with weft-qda
Dear wxruby users
I''ve been trying to get wxruby-based weft-qda 0.9.6 running on a linux from
scratch 6.1 system (this list had a discussion about weft-qda last year and
alex fenton''s also been trying to help me out - no luck so far).
I get stuck with wxruby 0.60 (I think). I compiled wxruby against wxGTK 2.4.2
(without gtk2, without unicode - gtk+ version is 1.2.10) - after

Installation success, execution failed
Hello, after I wasn''t able to install wxruby via gem (404) I
downloaded the file from rubyforge and installed it on my intel mac.
No failure the so I tried to start the minimal.rb with ruby -r/r?/
ubegems <path>...
This didn''t work so I tried to do it in irb but the same error occured:
irb(main):001:0> require ''rubygems''

next steps - public alpha?
Seems the gems and tarball have been downloaded a bit with no reported
problems. I suggest we do an alpha release incorporating Roy''s useful
recent fixes and announce it more publicly e.g. on the mailing list.
It''s not perfect, but again we have made a lot of progress since late
July and we should build on it; it was our dev goal. I now personally
have to put some effort

tagged 0.0.37; release plans
Hi
I just tagged 0.0.37 in Subversion. I also added a note on the Wiki on
how to do this, and how to checkout a clean version:
http://wxruby.rubyforge.org/wiki/wiki.pl?Release_HowTo
For the build, I''m just about to upload a tarball, and will add a
powerpc gem once the compiler''s chugged away. Please upload for your
platform as you''re ready.
I suggest we announce

tag and release 0.0.36
I''m planning to tag 0.0.36 and release binaries from it. We have lots of
good new methods & classes & samples (mainly thanks to Roy), and I would
like to get a unicode Windows binary gem out there.
TODO are integrate Scintilla on OS X and Linux, and apply Tobias''s
patches to rakefiles. These''ll be for early in 0.0.37.
Maybe someone with Subversion experience

Patch files to implement AcceptFocus
These files add the virtual function AcceptFocus that was missing from
wxWindow.h. In order to make things right I had to make sure it was
also declared in all the places where wxWindows also changes it. Also,
in wxTextCtrl on Windows GetDefaultAttributes needs to be redeclared. I
haven''t downloaded the Unix and Mac headers for 2.6.3 so I couldn''t see
if it also applies

wxRuby on osx tiger and ruby 1.8
Does anyone have a dmg image or .bundle of wxRuby built against wxwindows
2.4/2.5/2.6 and Ruby 1.8?
I attempted to build all the parts with not much success.

First drop of new memory management
Hi
Just a quick update on memory leaks etc. I''ve just dropped a bunch of
patches with a new approach to linking ruby''s GC to Wx''s memory
handling. Still some work to do - eg bigdemo.rb falls over quite quickly
- but working well for me on other samples.
Briefly, it disposes of fixdeleting. For almost all objects that aren''t
Windows, they should now be

Gem and tarball rake tasks
Hi
I created an add-on script (to live in rake/) and a little patch for our
main rakefile to automate building release products.
The two main targets are ''gem'' (create a binary gem for your platform)
and ''package'' (create a platform-neutral source tarball for SWIGging and
compiling).
A few small things came up while doing this:
- Package name and version
