install/libraries on solaris2.6 (PR#280)

Version: 0.65.0
OS: sparc-sun-solaris 2.6
Submission from: (NULL) (134.147.95.163)
Building R-0.65.0 on sparc-sun-solaris2.6 using sun make + gcc 2.95.1+ binutils
2.8.1
and ./configure --with-g77 fails when building the eda etc. libraries. The
configure
script produces SHLIBLDFLAGS= -G. Replacing this in config.site by
SHLIBLDFLAGS = -shared gives no errors during

problems compiling R-0.63.3 on alpha
Hi again !
Thanks for the info on updating the config.site file which I
have done. I have also added -lm in the Makeconf manually
because this is needed explicitly for DEC cc.
However, there are still a few problems when linking some
of the files as you can see from the enclosed log.
Ciao,
Andreas

Hi !
I have problems compiling R successfully on a DEC-UINX 4.0E.
I have applied the recommended config.site, which I enclose.
As can be seen from the compilation log there are linking errors...
I did a 'make check' which fails for the R

R-beta: smooth in compiling
Dear all,
Many thanks to those prompt and helpful replies, which immediately
bring me to the final stage.
A minor problem now:
I got the following message for smooth function during compilation on
both DEC-alpha and RedHat5.1. Although the compiling went through, it
does not have the function of 'smooth' which is quite useful for me.
Any ideas?

R-beta: cannot make R
Can anyone help?
I am trying to install R-0.62.2 on a Sun with OS 5.6 (Solaris 2.6),
and gcc/f77. Unfortunatley the simple commands
./configure --prefix=/opt/R
make
did not work, complaining when building help/docs.
It claims to have problems perl (which has worked fine so far)
but in practice it is not only a documentation problem:
if I force "make install" and run R, then it

R-beta: Re-installing libraries in a new version.
Dear R-helpers,
I just upgraded from version 62.1 to 62.2 and now am faced with the
same problem I've run into before when upgrading:
Is there an easy way to take the libraries I have been using in the
older version and pull then into the new version. My organization looks
like this on Solaris 2.5.2:
/opt -- /R
-- /R-0.62.1
--/library

I grabbed the nov 5 devel tarball and built the system. I had to make
hand changes to "readline" stuff. I also had to change build-help mod
to +x. Now library(xxx) is not working. I had to change eda and mva

R-beta: Printing documentation for R and all packages installed
Dear R gurus and users,
in order to provide the local users of R with a printed copy of the
ample documentation provided with R and the optional packages
installed, I have introduced a minor change to the
R/doc/manual/Makefile.
Using GNU find, GNU sed, and features of GNU make, the LaTeX
documentation found in the subdiretories of .../R/library/ is copied
to .../R/doc/manual, and appropriate

Installing R on alpha-dec OSF 4.0
Hi
has anyone succeeded in installing R on DEC alpha OSF 4.0 with gcc/g77
?
The PLATFORMS file mentions successful installtion on OSF 3.2 using cc.
Here is the output I get when trying to compile:

problem with make fullcheck on Sparc Solaris 8
I have been trying out R-1.6.0 tarballs (2002-9-10 and 2002-9-17) on:
arch sparc
os solaris2.8
system sparc, solaris2.8
status beta

minor 6.0

language R
As you see form above, R-1.6.0 compiles fine and works. However, when I

build problems on Fedora Core 1
Hello...
I tried to build R-devel today on Fedora Core 1 (with gcc 3.3.2)
but I am running into a couple of errors. On the same system R-1.8.1
compiles just fine, as did a previous version of R-devel.
This is what I did:
# change LANG as default in FC1 is UTF-8
export LANG=en_US.ISO8859-1
export LANGVAR=en_US.ISO8859-1
# get fresh sources and configure
mkdir R-devel
rsync -vrC

R-beta: R-0.61.3 for Win95/NT available
I have just put on ftp://sirio.stat.unipd.it/pub/R a new version
of R for Win95/NT.
The main difference concerns dynamic linking (see below).
In addition, the binary distribution contains many of the
available packages (all the ones that I have installed on
my Unix machine).
In the afternoon, I will upload the files on CRAN.

R-beta: problem installing packages
Hello,
I have installed Venables & Ripley's VR_5.3pl025-1 in RHOME/library/VR and
added the path to my RLIBS environmental variable. In R (0.62.2) typing
"library()" lists these packages, but typing e.g. "library(nnet)" gets
"Warning: Package 'nnet' contains no R code".
It appears to me the code is there and I have checked the permissions and

/usr/lib/R/library vs /usr/local/lib/R/site-library
I would appreciate getting a clarification of /usr/lib/R/library vs /usr/local/lib/R/site-library. I am running R 1.8 on Debian Linux. On one occasion doing update.packages() resulted in versions of one or more libraries being placed in one of these directories without removing the old version, and the old version took precedence over the new. I'm sorry I did not save the steps I used. I
