AC-97 problem between RELENG_4_8 and RELENG_4
Sorry if this is a known problem... I've been tracking RELENG_4 on my Toshiba laptop for a while now; a couple of months ago (not sure when) my sound stopped working. More specifically, when it gets to the pcm probe, the boot hangs. I dual-boot with WinXP and figured that somehow XP had hosed the hardware, so I wrote it off. Today, I made world with RELENG_4_8, and voila, my sound's

kmem_malloc crash with 4.8
Hi. I've recently borrowed a SuperMicro 6013P-8 from a vendor for the purposes of testing it to see if FreeBSD and these machines will make a good replacements for our current flock of 11 Netra T1s running solaris. Things are going very well with the tests, with the glaring exception of the following crash: While doing some significant disk operations: du, deleting a different part of the

FreeBSD 7.0 + Xen 3.1 + HVM: Success!
Just thought I'd pass along that I have successfully installed FreeBSD 7.0 into a Xen 3.1 HVM. ?This one went as smooth as I expected, considering my experience with 6.3. ?Haven't done any benchmarking or stress testing or port installs or anything. ?But so far it's working nicely. Here's all the info. ?If you'd like to see anything else, let me know. Host hardware: ?

FreeBSD 7.0 + Xen 3.1 + HVM: Success!
Kip, Does the problem with Xen 3.1 in HVM/Intel manifest as those BTX halted errors (e.g. http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2006-10/msg00014.html) ? If so, do you happen to know whether this problem has been solved in Xen 3.2 or 3.2.1? This message of yours was written this March, so I'm assuming that 3.2.1 will contain this fix? Can anybody confirm this? I'm having

Hi, I have strange problem when booting FreeBSD-6.x in HP Proliant ML370 G4. The problem is "-" appears on the screen and it never boots unless somebody hits the "Enter" key. Sometimes even PS2 keyboard doesn't respond during that time. Tried with USB keyboard, same problem. The machine has dual Xeon 3.2 GHz, 1GB of RAM and LSI Logic (mpt-5.0.5.20.00 bios) LSI1030-IT

vinum (root on vinum too) throw_rude_remark crash: endless loop
Dear colleagues, experimenting with vinum stripes and mirrors, I'd stuck myself with the following: panic: throw_rude_remark: called without config lock (from vinumconfig.c:throw_rude_remark:103) The system before this panic has two 160G drives with two vinum partitions on each (one for mirrored root and one for the rest with swap between); these were ad0 and ad2. For the experiments,

[SAGE] FreeBSD 4.4-REL to FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE upgrade problem.
Before reading below: I am considering a new install rather than an upgrade of our servers. However, now I just want to beat this problem. :) At 02:19 PM 7/8/2003 +0000, Phil Pennock wrote: >On 2003-07-08 at 14:09 +0000, Phil Pennock wrote: > > There was a fairly major update to the IDE disk device handlers which > > required new device nodes. Fatal Trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode on IBM x340 after Aug25CVS
Hi, We did an upgrade of one of our machines from an Aug 25 CVS and ever since then one of the machines likes to reboot about once a day. The machine is the following: IBM x340 2x1GHZ Processors 1GB RAM 3x36GB Drives (RAID 5) Mylex ExtreRAID 352 In the panic it mentions httpd, but I don't *think* it's apache (1.3.27) that's causing the problem, or am I wrong? I also believe it is

Orinoco 802.11b PC Card doesn't work on STABLE
Hi, I have Orinoco 802.11b PC Card from Proxim. I plugged it to pcmcia slot, but It doesn't work - no blinking LEDs, no wi0 in ifconfig. I have 7.1-PRERELEASE, laptop Prestigio Nobile 157. "TIMEOUT - WRITE_DMA" with SiI 3512 SATA on IBM eServer 326
Hi, I have a problem, probably with the SiI 3512 SATA150 controller in a dual-Opteron IBM eServer 326: Every once a while the kernel issues a message like: ad4: TIMEOUT - WRITE_DMA retrying (2 retries left) LBA=150190687 The system waits a few seconds and continues to work normally. It typically occurs several times a day most likely depending on the load of the (SATA connected) hard drive.

4.9-rc + usb + asus a7n8x == bad news
Hi! Just before we start, this is not the "USB hang on boot" problem. OK? This post got rather long, so I'll summaries it all in a sentence here: With FreeBSD 4.9-rc on an ASUS A7N8X with a cheapo memory stick, simply plugging it in and taking it out a couple of times is a guaranteed panic. I use only one USB device, a cheapo USB memory stick, which I recently bought on a

CPU1 never used despite HTT?
Hi, I am running a Xeon with hyperthreading support. Until last week's HTT modifications, according to ps(1) and top(1) both logicals CPUs were in use. (Processes in CPU0 and CPU1 state; "C" column showing "0" or "1".) This has changed with a recent -STABLE kernel which includes last week's changes to HTT (removing "options HTT"). I am only seeing
