Dendrogram for a type unbalanced ANOVA
Hi-
I have about 20 groups for which I know the mean, variance, and number of
points per group. Is here an R function where I can plot (3 group example)

fitting a mixture of distributions with optim and max log likelihood ?

Suppose I have a mixture of 2 distributions generated by

Performance note: Preallocating helps? and two questions
hi-
in r 1.1 on windows 2000
with length(AU) of 35833
AUcap30<-0
for(i in 1:length(AU))AUcap30[i]<-min(30,AU[i])
took over an hour on pentium II 300 mhertz (I esc'ed before it finished)
but
AUcap30<-AU
for(i in 1:length(AU))AUcap30[i]<-min(30,AU[i])
is very quick (a few seconds)
Is this performance difference common in r (ie is linux the same way)?
Are there other tricks

Re: R 0.90.0 for Windows rwinst fails (for me) and workaround
hi-
I downloaded r 0.90.0 for windows and ran rwinst.exe and the base package would not install for me. I had to unzip
rw0900b1.zip and r20900b2.zip manually and then do the rest of install with rwinst. Is this due to b being replaced
by b1 and b2?

dxf() like bmp() or postscript()?
hi-
I have been using postscript()and contour() to do quick plots of geological
sufaces and it would be handy to be able to dump a plot as an autocad dxf
file for vector import into autocad. A search of rhelp of 99 thru 01 gave no matches for dxf. Any suggestions for a dxf or dump of a plot as vectors?

R under Win2000?
Dear all,
Will R run under Win2000 or is it safer to stay with NT4.0 for a while?

Re: qemu hook: event for source host too
I could launch `lvchange -asy` on the source host manually, but the aim of hooks is to automatically execute such commands and avoid human errors.

power and sample size for a GLM with Poisson response variable
Craig, Thanks for your follow-up note on using the asypow package. My
problem was not only constructing the "constraints" vector but, for my
particular situation (Poisson regression, two groups, sample sizes of
(1081,3180), I get very different results using asypow package compared
to my other (home grown) approaches.

pois.mean<-c(0.0065,0.0003)

How to increase precision to handle very low P-values
Hello, Rlisters
I have to compute p-values that are on the tail of the distribution,
P-values < 10^-20.
However, my current implementations enable one to estimate P-values up to
10^-12, or so.
A typical example is found below, where t is my critical value.
########### example - code adapted from Rassoc #######################
rho01 = 0.5
rho105 = 0.5
rho005 = 0.5
t = 8

B62 AHCI and ZFS
Hardware Supermicro X7DAE (AHCI BIOS) dual Intel Woodcrest processors, 6 x Western Digital Raptor SATA drives.
I have installed b62 running 64 bit succesfully on a PATA drive. The BIOS is configured to access the SATA drives in native mode using hte AHCI Bios.
I have 6 SATA II drives accessed via the Solaris AHCI driver. I have created a ZFS file system across all 6 drives. This works fine until

qemu hook: event for source host too
Hello, this is my first time posting on this mailing list.
I wanted to suggest a addition to the qemu hook. I will explain it
through my own use case.
I use a shared LVM storage as a volume pool between my nodes. I use
lvmlockd in sanlock mode to protect both LVM metadata corruption and
concurrent volume mounting.
When I run a VM on a node, I activate the desired LV with exclusive lock

Drawing a line with misc3d
Hi the list,
I would like to draw some lines with misc3d. I find a lot of tools to
draw surfaces, but nothing for simple line... Is it possible?
Note that I know that it is possible to draw lines with rgl (using
lines3d), but I need to do it with misc3d to export the drawing in .asy
format.
Any solution?

Is There an Alternative to MEMDISK ?
This isn't an esp urgent issue, but I'd like to use a certain RAM diagnostic (Doc Mem) which I've already posted a note about a couple of months ago. Simply won't work booting the floppy disk image via MEMDISK. In the interim, I've tried to resolve this by changing things on my side. I'm pretty sure it's a XMS incompatibility, as it fails differently depending on

SYSLINUX-3.52-pre5: XP BOOTSEC.BIN Bug
I just encountered my only bug w/ the ISOLINUX+VESAMENU combination
from 3.52-pre5. Updated a *working* CD project w/ the new
ISOLINUX+VESAMENU combo just last week. Booting my preferred Linux
distro (Slax-6) from my custom CDs work perfectly, however when I
updated a CD project that includes BartPE/WinPE, BartPE fails to
boot w/ 'CDBoot can not boot CD: error 4" msg. For the
