For loop...
Dear R-users,
I have dataset with column A and B with1000 values,
For each of column C value (C = seq(1,1000,1), I want to repeat A and B
values and calculate R = A+B*C for each row.
I want to get output as
A B C R

Request for Assistance in R with NonMem
Hi
I am having some problems running a covariate analysis with my
colleage using R with the NonMem program we are using for a graduate
school project. R and NonMem run fine without adding in the
covariates, but the program is giving us a problem when the covariate
analysis is added. We think the problem is with the R code to run the
covariate data analysis. We have the control stream, R code

gnls( ) question
Last week (Wed 9/10/2003, "regression questions") I posted
a question regarding the use of gnls( ) and its dissimilarity
to the syntax that nls( ) will accept. No one replied, so
I partly answered my own question by constructing indicator
variables for use in gnls( ). The code I used to construct
the indicators is at the end of this email.
I do have a nagging, unanswered

nlme parameters in nlmeControl
Hello all.
I'm doing a simulation study where I will be making use of the 'nlme' package. I want to
loosen up the convergence criteria so that I increase the likelihood of convergence
(potentially at the cost of obtaining slightly less than ideal results). The parameters in
the function nlmeControl() control the convergence criteria. These default values can be
modified to make

helper for models?
Is there such a thing?
I have some duplicate methods in my models, can I place them somewhere
and call them in to my models, thus keeping DRY?

Doubt regarding Feature selection for 'Learning to Rank' algorithms
Hi Rishabh,
I had this feeling before. This is a really nice idea BUT we can not go
ahead with the project which is still not tested in the experimental
settings. Though it may be a wonderful research exercise, I would still
vote to go for the state-of-the-art methods which are completely published
with full details and experimental results. Hope you get my point.

Parth.

How to debug the C programs associated with R-packages?
hello,
I was having some problems in debugging C codes assocaited with R-packages.
I don't have much experience with debugging tools used in C language. Is
there any methods similar to R-debugging tools such as browser ,debug etc
which can be used to debug such C files.
I was using the foreign package and found a bug in reading dta files
containing empty strings "" in the data. I

Letor: Post Mid-Term plan
Hello Rishabh,
As per our previous discussion, we will talk each week now about the
project. Please update the timeline/todo/journal accordingly so that we can
check the status on this saturday for this week.
Please remember that this half of the programme is smaller and hence we
would need to be very punctual about the goals.
Regards,
Parth.

Mid-term progress
Hi Rishabh,
As per our last progress meeting, I am off for some days and as now its the
time to mid-term evaluation, it would be better to generate a progress
report.
For that, you should first commit the code as it is and then write 2 to 3
page summary explaining the deliverables so far and then the future plan.
Tomorrow is the last day, so better by tomorrow morning, send this across

A Little Help
Hi Rishabh,
I think its better not to expose RankiList to Letor.h and make it better
user friendly. So my suggestion is to convert RankList to the following
statement in this method.
std::map<Xapian::docid, double> letor_score(const Xapian::MSet & mset);
So just convert the RankList in std::map<Xapian::docid, double> format in
the methods where you need to return.
Parth.

nlme trouble
I am not certain how nlme works so I followed an example from the web (
http://www.menne-biomed.de/gastempt/gastempt1.html). I was able to
successfully reproduce the example. However, when I modified my the example
to use my data and with my formula, I get a set of errors having to do with
the log() function. I get 10 of them (all exactly the same) and there are 10
levels in my factor variable.

Help with NLME
I am relatively new to NLME, so the solution to the problem I describe here
may be obvious. But I've spent several days trying to get the right syntax
to formulate random effects for this model appropriately. The full model is:
nlme(a ~ a.mitscherlich(a.qe, a.max, lcp, light),
data=light,
fixed = a.max + a.qe + lcp ~ trt,
random = a.max + a.qe + lcp ~ 1 | bench/line,

PNLS step error in nlme
Hi R-help;
In using nlme, I often encounter the following error message:
Error in nlme.formula(model = response ~ ......, data = ...
:
Step halving factor reduced below minimum in PNLS step
Resetting the pnlsTol default value does not solve the problem. Any
suggestions or workarouds for solving the problem?
TIA,

withTimeout does not timeout nlme anymore
Hello,
I was relying on withTimeout (from R.utils) to help me stop nlme when it ?hangs?. However, recently this stopped working. I am pasting a reproducible example below: withTimeout should stop nlme after 10 seconds but in this example it does not. I tried this both on a linux (64 bit, CentOS 7, R 3.4.1, nlme 3.1-131 R.util 2.6) and mac (Sierra 10.13.1, R 3.4.2, same versions or nlme and

withTimeout bug, it does not work properly with nlme anymore

I was relying on withTimeout (from R.utils) to help me stop nlme when it ?hangs?. However, recently this stopped working. I am pasting a reproducible example below: withTimeout should stop nlme after 10 seconds but the code will generate data for which nlme does not converge (or takes too long) and withTimeout does not stop it.
