Wrong symbol rendering in plots (Ubuntu)
Hi I am having problems with the rendering of scientific symbols (mu and
degree) in my plots. Whenever I use these symbols they are rendered
changed (mu is changed to the proportionality symbol and degree is
changed to something resembling a gamma) in the X-device. If I make a
pdf of the plot and open the file in Evince or Okular symbols are also
rendered wrong, however if I open the file

PDF viewer?
Hi,
I'm looking for a usable PDF viewer with CentOS 4.3. On my previous install
(Slack running XFCE with a handful of GNOME libs), I used Evince, which is just
great. Looks like this is an Achilles' heel in CentOS, as I tested three
available PDF viewers (ggv, gsview, acroread) with various PDF documents
downloaded from the internet (which all display perfectly with Evince): either

Acroread9 crash in CentOS7
Hello,
I'm getting a crash with acroread on my CentOS7 (AdobeReader_enu-9.5.5-1.i486).
I install the official rpms from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/,
tried 9.5.5, and former v9, v8, v7.
/usr/bin/acroread loads well, but when you click a menu, bang. Same if
you start acroread w/ a .pdf filename in parameter, the window opens up
then crashes.
I modified the acroread script to

evince on centos5.1
is there something other than evince on centos 5.1 to view pdf's?
Every time I am remoted in using vncviewer and look at attached emails
it KILLS my X11 session.
If I am at my desktop it works fine.
xpdf used to work fine on 4.X - but it was removed in 5.X.
Is there an alternative?
Thanks,
Jerry

sum(hist$density) == 2 ?!

[1] 2 ----------------------------- shouldn't it be 1?!

[1] 1 ----------------------------- now it's 1. why?!

New Linux/Wine User Needs Help!
Hello,
I am running Wine with Ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Laptop. I installed Wine using the Ubuntu Software Center and am using 1.1.42. I have 'installed' Adobe Reader, Firefox, IE 8 and Business Plan Pro from Palo Alto Software.
Firefox will start and run, IE 8 will not fully execute, Adobe Reader gives an error for Wine C++ Runtime error and Biz Plan Pro gives an Active X error 429.

R 2.8.0 qqnorm produces error with object of class zoo?
Dear list-reader,
by running the following script:
library(zoo)
sessionInfo()
search()
packageDescription("zoo")
data(EuStockMarkets)
dax <- as.zoo(EuStockMarkets[1:10, "DAX"])
daxr <- diff(log(dax))
identical(as.vector(qnorm(daxr)), qnorm(coredata(daxr)))
qqnorm(coredata(daxr))
qqnorm(daxr)
qqnorm() produces an error:
> qqnorm(daxr)

acroread = resource hog
Any have trouble with acroread taking up massive cpu and memory?
I exited my Firefox browser and the lil bastard was still hogging up
my resources.
Took up 69% of 4GB, and wouldn't let go, until a kill -9 showed'em,
have to do it every time I open a pdf in firefox.
Any use Xpdf or something else?

acrobat reader for x86_64?
Adobe doesn't seem to have acroread for x86_64 linux, or at least I don't
see it anywhere.
Anybody know otherwise?
Evince and other tools work pretty well, but I have always liked having
the "real thing" around for those occasions when they don't.

libreoffice vs. PDF fillable forms
On centos 6, I've been trying to use LibreOffice to fill in
entries of a PDF with fillable forms.
In addition to all my other problems, the font size is stuck on 24.
I can change it, but whenever I so much a take a deep breath,
it's back to 24 again.
How do I stop this?
So far, all my searches have given me stuff about making fillable forms,
but nothing about dealing with existing ones.

why this doesn't work for qqnorm
I want to qqnorm every column in a table. When I try the first column
using
qqnorm(table$column1), it worked.
But when I use
qqnorm(table[1]), it tells me "Error in stripchart(x1, ...) : invalid
plotting method".
What happen? How can I make a function that qqnorms every column?
thanks a lot.

Flipping axes of qqnorm
Hi all,
I have just started using R to produce qqnorm plots. I am trying to
switch the x and y axes so that the theoretical values are plotted on the y
axis and my data on the x axis. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks

overlaying qqnorm plots...
I know this topic has had plenty of discussion in the last couple of days,
but....
I've been trying to compare the effects of different fitted methods for
systems of equations (OLS, SUR, 2SLS, 3SLS ) and would like to compare the
residual plots (easy) and the qqnorm/qqplot of the fits for the different
fitted methdos. For example,
qqnorm( residuals( lm( q ~ p + f + a ) ) )
par( new = TRUE )

classes and functions for qqnorm and stem
Referring to "Using R for Data Analysis and Graphics" by J H Maindonald,
and available from the R site, I found the example on p.30 non-working:
> stem(qqnorm(possum$hdlngth))
Error in stem(qqnorm(possum$hdlngth)) : 'x' must be numeric
Since qqnorm(possum$hdlngth) plots, and

[1] "numeric"
, the problem must be here:

qqnorm.lme & pairs.lme
Hello,
I am trying to do some plotting to check random effect assumptions for a
model I fit using lme.
I want to use qqnorm and pairs (similarly to examples given in Pinheiro &
Bates p. 188), but it's not working. Here's some relevant code and the
error message:
library(nlme)
data(Machines)
m1 <- lme(fixed=score~Machine,random=~1|Worker/Machine, data=Machines)
qqnorm(m1,
