Sharing of Directories & assigning group permissions to directories
Hi Everyone, This is a follow-up question on Samba. After doing rpm to reinstall the dependencies on libcups.so.2 and libssl.so.2. Samba went on fine. My question is regarding Client machines Win98 could not log on to the samba server. This gave me an error message --> The share name was not found. Be sure you typed it correctly. As far as I can remember I did the following on my samba box.

symmetric (& square) contingency table from dataset of unordered pairs
Hi Everybody, I have a data set in which each observation has a pair of students, with each kid id'd by a 4 digit number: > head(PAIRS) student1 student2 2 2213 2200 4 2198 2195 5 2199 2191 6 2229 2221 7 2247 2249 8 2250 2263 There is no significance to student1 vs. student2: they are just a pair, and the "variable" names could

Is there a function to interdigitate two columns?
Hello List Inhabitants: I don?t know what this operation is called or if there is a function that does it automatically, hence I seek your help! If I divide a large data collection tasks between two students, and I have a master list of samples, but one student records some of the values, and the other student the remainder, I need to get the two sets of student measurements into one column.

Op-lock error
Samba 3.0.9-2.3 on Suse 9.2 I'm still getting errors copying to my samba box: Often the first attempt to copy to it fails seemingly before it's copied anything. When this happens, there is a zero-length file created with the right name. If I retry the copy immediately and reply Yes to overwrite the zero-length file, it usually proceeds without problems. Many times the copy just goes

different logon path for different users - local profiles for a few users only - how?
I would like to have roaming profiles for one group of users (student1, student2), and local profiles for another group of users (Joe, Mary). Is it possible with Samba? From what I've tested, one can use either roaming profiles with a setting similar to the one below: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%G\%U Or local profiles, using the logon path empty: logon path = I have no clue how to

CD sharing via iso9660, mounted, and samba
I have installed a small Limux box in my local primary school, in order to sahre CD iso images. The system works fine, untill several w/s's concurrently access the same program , whereupon, we get spurious crashes. I have tried disableing op-locks, which seemed to help, but only slightly. Any suggestions gratefully received. Shane oplock_break: no break received from client within 30

CentOS samba MS Word corruption
We're using CentOS samba for about 20 workstations, mostly XP, some 2000 and two win98. Samba shares a data directory with Word, Excel and Access documents/db's. Also Exact for Dos is running from this share (executable and data). The users experience a long delay every morning opening the first Word document (Word 97, Word 2000). This could take 10 minutes or so. If they close

oplocks problem with 2.2.3a
hello, until last week I had 2.2.1a in place, which, except some fox (dos) share which needed 'veto oplocks files', worked ok; upgraded to 2.2.3a with the same smb.conf (details below) and suddenly I started having oplocks problems (not on the dos share, that one is ok) with almost every other share (those hold windows files: programs, *doc, *xls): [2002/02/19 12:31:28, 0]

Samba & Redhat - Oplocks
Can any one help me ? This has been bugging me for ages. I have been using different versions of samba for a while on different versions of Redhat (7.0, 7.2, 7.3). I regularly get erratic freezing (for about a minute) whenever I right click on files. This has happened on different computers on different sites on different networks, so I assume it's quite consistent This is what I get when

Win2k oplocks and you
Hello list! I've seen the threads in this months archives on oplock issues, so I hope I am not hitting a sore spot by bringing it up again. The reason I am beating on this is that I've got a testable, repeatable issue with Win2K terminal server (SP2) running CorelDRAW 10 (patched to current) against a Debian Woody box running Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian. Since I can repeatedly test the
