Solaris 9 Samba 3.0.24
I'm currently running samba 3.0.20a
I can configure and make 3.0.20a with no problem
I run the same configure command on the 3.0.24 source, configure works
fine, but make returns the following.
( and just to test if a patch screwed me up I tested configuring and
making the 3.0.20a version again, and it worked as it should )
Any bugs with 3.0.24???
Using FLAGS = -O -D_SAMBA_BUILD_

Samba Solaris HIGH Cpu
We're running samba 3.20 ( pretty default install ) on solaris. During the day 99.9% of the time the load avg. on the server is just fine, however at times all the smbd processes go into a "run" state and put load avg. on the server to over 300. This only lasts for a couple of minutes and then goes away. The smbd process count is normally around 400-600 all day. So Its not like

Permissions when MOVING files
We've got a large user base.
They all have a home directory and within it a public_html directory. Each of the directories have and need different permissions set on them.
I've tried using ACL's, setgid bits, all the samba options, however when a file is _MOVED_ from their home directory to their public_html directory the permissions don't change. Even with the different

Hi, Ott et al.:
????? What's the best way to get "Travis CI" to build and test the two
packages, Ecdat and Ecfun, that have long been combined in the Ecdat
project?
????? Following Ott's advice and studying studying Wickham's "R
Packages" (http://r-pkgs.had.co.nz/), I was able to configure RStudio so
it would sync using git with

Roaming profiles question
I have Samba 3.014a running. If I use the standard profiles definition:
[profiles]
path = /opt/samba/profiles
writeable = yes
browseable = no
create mode = 0600
directory mode = 0700
then everything works fine. But changing just the path to
path = /home/%U/profiles
breaks it completely. I can curious why this doesn't work. The user
that is logging in owns their

force create mode / force directory mode in 3.0.13 behavior changed?
... as in they dont appear to be forcing anymore anymore ? =)
I've tried on two seperate machines, slightly different configs but same
statements in the stanza I was testing...
Trying to force 750/640 and it appeared to work quite nicely in the
past.. No other mode statements around, and according to docs, force
does a bitwire OR on the mode, no AND or masking. Still, with 750/640
forced,

Auto-Extracting/expanging ISO images
Perhaps a bit off-topic, but figured this might be a good question to pose
to the list before I go off re-inventing the wheel again...
Has anyone, or does anyone know of, a way to directly mount or utilize and
iso image file as a filesystem? I'd like to use samba to create a series of
shares based on ISO images; assuming one can mount an ISO image file one
could in theory serve windows

Lock accounts with SAMBA
Hi,
I'm a busy sysadmin locking and unlocking user accounts. I'd like to be
able to do it from my linux -kerberos enabled samba workstation.
I can easily use net commands to see if a user's account is locked in
the ADS. How do I actually lock it from within samba.
I've written a user management system at the school that does lots of
things, I'd like it to be able to do

System Imaging
I am using Samba 3.0.20pre1 as a DC and I want to know if there is
something similar to Deep Freeze www.faronics.com (except open source)
for Linux. Deep Freeze automatically compares the software installation
on a client machine to an image on a server. If the client machine
differs, the client is automatically synced with the server. I want to
achieve this with Samba and a linux tool if

OS X Server and Duplication
One question and a comment---
Is it possible to setup a G4 X Server into a duplicating server for my k12 LDAP Server?
If not, what are the steps to creating a duplication server for my LDAP server using a PC.
I am fairly new to LDAP, and as I play around with it more I am understanding the way it functions. But I am a bit confused about duplication server. As I understand it, a duplication

New one on me: How to UN-transfer
I'm using a Snom 320 in a CAP position and the receptionist wants to do
blind transfers. OK, no problem so far. Now she has asked me how to
UN-transfer a call, as in, she transfers a call and wants to hook the call
back before it connects (she wanted to tell the caller additional
information for example)
I don't think that this is possible as once my dialplan starts using Dial()

Obtaining log level 10 for just specified user(s) (MS Word & Excel File Locking issue - still)
Is it possible to make samba produce a log at level 10 for only a specified
user(s), I am trying (still) to figure out why Samba processes climb to 100%
CPU and the user loses connection with MS Word & Excel files being locked.
Have been dealing with this issue for quite some time now, but had to put it
on the back burner for a while because we had little time to deal with it.

Problems saving Excel sheets using Office 97 on a Samba share
Hey all,
We're having some trouble saving Excel documents on our Samba Fileserver. We are moving people over to our Samba box, and have moved most of our documents over.
Now, we have people opening their Excel documents, but are unable to save them. When something is saved, we see this message:
Your changes could not be saved to 'document.xls', but were saved to a temporary document

[Bridge] Any way of knowing a packet's been defragmented
Hello,
Due to a recent change in the bridge code, we now need a way of knowing if
a packet has been defragmented. The bridge code now checks on the packet
size and drops packets that are too big for the output port. Defragmented
packets will get refragmented later, so they shouldn't be dropped.
I've been reading the defragmentation code and can't find an easy way of
knowing if a
