are being offered by the server. You can check also what shares are being offered by the windows boxes the same way. I wonder why the other windows machines are not showing up in network neighborhood? Try sharing some things between windows machines. Maybe you have something misconfigured on the windows side. There is a script, findsmb, which comes with samba. First turn off nmbd (killall nmbd) ,

for this process is "root", that is correct. The PID 7247 is one of the users, but the UID shouldn't be "root" and should be the username that was authenticated during logon. Anyone have same or similar problem? and how do I prevent this problem from happening again? I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Will Sun wsun@jpl.nasa.gov (818) 354-2311 Return-Path:

network. I did read somewhere on the web (several years ago) of a guy who managed to boot windows from the net. With the start of Win 98/ME/ etc.etc it's not posible anymore. I currently use PXE to install machine from the net using bpbatch that works great only bpbatch is not really under developnt and the script language is a bit buggy. I see only one option to boot windows from the net and

Help! problems with Arcserve. Can someone decrypt the logs ?
Hi everyone, We use samba 2.0.4 and are very glad of it. However, recently I had to add a backup facility on our network, so we plan to purchase Arcserve IT for NT, in order to backup our servers. We are using mainly 3 Linux servers and 1 NT server, which runs the backup service. However, as Itried to add a simple share on the file server to enable backup, later I encounter problems with

" ERROR! Out of file structures" with smbd, and Arcserve IT on sm b share
Hi again, I was previously writing for a problem with Arcserve IT and Samba (with linux). The connection drops after 15 minutes. Continuing to understand what's happening, I discovered the following message in the logs: [1999/06/01 14:42:08, 0] smbd/files.c:file_new(85) ERROR! Out of file structures Immediatly I ran into the samba code to try to understand the cause of the problem.

TEST 3 If you get a "connection refused" response then the smbd server may not be running. If you installed it in inetd.conf then you probably edited that file incorrectly. If you installed it as a daemon then check that it is running, and check that the netbios-ssn port is in a LISTEN state using "netstat -a". Note: You have xinetd not inetd on the redhat box. To avoid all

2.0.4, still oplock_break failures
Hi! Even with 2.0.4, I'm still seeing a lot of oplock break failures (clients failing, see log further down). The client hangs for approx 30 secs (sometimes more) and then gets back online. At least one user can't use the file shares at all; it hangs whatever he does, and on any computer he uses (NT or 98, laptop, desktop...) Other users have less problems, but maybe they are less

Adobe Photoshop problem with saving on Samba shares
We are experiencing problems with Adobe Photoshop and Samba, all versions up to 2.0.6. We run Samba off Compaq Alphaservers (ie 64 bit). Symptoms: 1) On doing a "Save As" in Photoshop, we intermittently get: "Could not save as F:\<filename> because the file is already in use or was left open". A zero length file is left on the Samba share. 2) Problem only

explorer freezes on right-clicking .exe's
I'm using samba 2.1 pre-alpha. When I right click an .exe file on the most shares, explorer freezes, and must be killed to recover. The problem doesn't show up on the home shares, but appears on any other shares I create. I've experienced this problem on many different workstations. Looking at the logs, it seems to be a problem with oplocks; the part of the log that seems to apply is

the files when you attempt to rename it. This is caused by Window's Media Player loading the file when you click on it. To work around this I had to go into Windows Explorer and change the folder options from "Enable Web Contents in Folders" to "Use Windows Classic Folders". This way, Windows Media player won't load the file when you click on it. Just trying to save

Windows VBSscript and test.sh execution in /tmp/public in AIX 5.3
Hello, I am having a very speific problem with my samba interface. We just migrated to a new IBM pSeries server with AIX 5.3. The older server was a RS6000, with AIX 5.2 and everything I'm about to describe below worked without fail. We have a Windows 2000 Server that runs IIS. There is a web-based program (programmed in VB Script) that calls test.sh AIX script (through samba) on our AIX

Question on User validation
> > Samba Fans: I currently have a number of samba servers running Samba-1.9.18 on Solaris 2.6. But each and every share requires the user to log in with not just the password but the correct username as well. Here is the interesting part. I left the security parameter as default, security=share. # Global parameters security = share workgroup = BEACORP [backup1]

Client frequent disconnection + strange logs
Hello, Although I've been using samba for years at my customers office, I recently moved one on a HP E60 server running RedHat 6.2. The samba version is 2.0.6, untouched from the distribution. They use a (weird) accounting software built on the top of FoxPro, requiring a *huge* amount of open files. I accordingly raised the values for files-nr and inode-nr and the stats seem ok. They have
