XP clients regularly lose connection
Hi,
We have Samba 2.2.8 on RedHat 9.0 (from rpm).
We connect about 5 Win XP Professional PC's (with Service Pack 1)
to the server.
Roaming profiles are set up.
After about 30 minutes client connections are lost to the server and
the users cannot reconnect to the server, even if samba is restarted.
A reboot of the server is required.
This occurs, it seems at this stage, when large

Access denied
Hello,
Samba 1.9.16p11 on Sun OS 5.6
For a NT4 Server SP4, I can not access to the samba server. When I look
at the log.MachineName file, I see the error "password server not
avalaible".
I must say that it is working fine with an NT4 SP4 server on the same
domain with the same user account.
I have change the registry to authorize non-encrypted password.
......
Thanks.

Samba 3.0 Alpha
Does net rpc join work in SAMBA (using HEAD from CVS compiled this morning)
Configured with ACL, with PAM, and with WINBIND.
It seems that I cannot rejoin my domain (PDC is NT4sp6a) after I turfed
machine.sid and secrets.tdb. I tried using smbpasswd first and was informed
to use net join rpc instead.
Logs available if needed.
Thanx

Windows2000SP2/Word2000 slow printing
I suspect this is an old one but can't find the answer in the archives
Symptoms:
Word2000 "hangs"/ takes ages(minutes) to open document apparently due
to doing something with default printer???
relevent smbd process on server runs up to 50-60% and stops there
for several minutes.
Oplocks seem to be created on downloadable driver files when printer is
accessed

i jumped on a deal for netfirms hoping to use their service for my first
rails app. however, their tutorials are lacking and i am having trouble
kicking off my rails application.
here are the directions they gave me:
http://support.netfirms.com/idx.php/26/649/SCRIPTS--APPLICATIONS/article/Ruby-on-Rails-Quickstart-Guide.html
but in those directions, it says nothing about configuring the fcgi

WinXP Pro 'Loses' Samba Server
I have Samba running on my web server (it's not a major file server or
anything) so that I can access files on it from my local network. Mainly
things like I can view my webalizer pages thru a local machine, or to
copy files over for installation.
Anyway - every 2-3 hours, I 'lose' the connection and have to reboot the
WinXP machine (yeh, I know - 'Rule #1 of Microsoft - When in

network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a
I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I
faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even
dont know if it can be a samba-problem.
When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice
versa I get bad performance:
1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second
But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

2.2.8a-1, Raidzone, filesize > ~17.6GB
I am working with a Raidzone tech to solve a problem with our Raidzone
NAS. The tech told me he has not yet posted to any Samba list about this,
and gave me permission to do so.
Using XCOPY from either NT4SP6a or W2KSP3, over varying network paths, a
file of 18,490,235K-1 bytes or smaller will copy to the NAS successfully in
about 45 minutes, but a file of 18,490,256K-1 bytes or larger will

Goodbye for now, RoR
I started a php-based website a few months ago with a buddy of mine on
netfirms.com. I was perusing their knowledge base and I came upon a
quick-start for something called Ruby on Rails. Since then I have immersed
myself in RoR. I''ve done the tutorials, I''ve purchased the books.
But, I could never get even a sample RoR app to work on netfirms. 500
server errors.

rsync hangs when accessing through SSH (Leopard OS X)
To preface, I'm running Leopard OSX and am using rsync version 2.6.9
protocol version 29.
Whenever I attempt to sync (using rsync obviously) a folder on my
local drive to my web server (netfirms.com is my web host) using SSH,
the process hangs. I have to force kill it in order to continue using
Terminal. I can connect to my server space using SSH just fine by
itself, and I ran

Quickbooks revisited
I did testing on generating this report from a 130 MB Quickbooks file.
Locally, 15 seconds. Samba Server, 1:35. Shared off of my win98
Workstation, 2+ mins. I do not understand the reason it is SOO slow. I
know it is a fairly large file. The only explanation I can come up with is
the way QuickBooks is accessing the files. Maybe jumping all around the
file, requiring many operations on the

ggplot2 geom_rect(): What am I missing here
Hi R fans,
As a newbie following the five-hour rule (after hitting my head against
the wall for five hours, post to this list), I am appealing for some
help understanding geom_rect() in ggplot2.
What I want to do is very simple. I want to generate a plot of
rectangles. Each one represents a business cycle. The x-values will be
pairs representing the start and end of each cycle. The y-values

I am trying to print out my confusion matrix after having created my random
forest.
I have put in this command:
fit<-randomForest(MMS_ENABLED_HANDSET~.,data=dat,ntree=500,mtry=14,

but I can't get it to give me the confusion matrix, anyone know how this
works?
Thansk!
