Unable to run SWAT
I'm trying to learn Samba on a Linux 7.0 box. I've just installed Samba
2.0.7. I've been able to run all the tests in DIAGNOSIS.TXT, manually
edit the smb.conf file, and I can even see some folders on the Samba
server from a Windows 98 machine on my LAN. But I am unable to run SWAT
on the Samba Server (or from any other computer on my LAN). Every time

Problems connecting to samba shares from w2k or XP system after configuring smb.conf file...
I modified my smb.conf file according to an old doc I found online and
I'm having problems logging in from either of my XP or NT boxes to
access the shares on the linux box. I can see the samba linux server in
My Network Places. I get the following error if trying to connect after
navigating to it from My Network Places:

Rid me of this boot GUI
One of these days, RedHat might actually run me off!!!! AAAARGH!!!!
Can anyone tell me how to get CentOS 4 to simply boot to the console in
text mode? If I wanted a stinkin' GUI I would have installed winders!
Now, my KVM and 25 foot cord is just too long to send a GUI signal
across the room and I'm missing 50% of the screen.. striped vertically..

'Many' packages installed - CentOS 4.1
Hi
Installed my first CentOS box last night after coming from Whitebox -
This is perhaps me being stupid but on install i opted for 'Custom'
install as i prefer minimal and then build as i suit. I went through the
list of things to install and removed everything apart from networking.
Install happenned and tons of stull ended up being installed including X

linear trend line and a quadratic trend line.
Dear list users
How is it possible to visualise both a linear trend line and a quadratic trend line on a plot
of two variables?
Here my almost working exsample.
data(Duncan)
attach(Duncan)
plot(prestige ~ income)
abline(lm(prestige ~ income), col=2, lwd=2)
Now I would like to add yet another trend line, but this time a quadratic one. So I have two
trend lines. One linear trend line

Samba PDC, ldap or mysql????
Hi all,
I'm under the gun to rid ourselves of the nt4 PDC which we
currently use. options are A/D, samba, pgina. I really dig pgina,
but dont think I can pass citrix credentials properly :( So I'm
left with samba vs A/D. A/D is well,, ummmmm A/D, so tyring to
avoid it.
Currently have used Samba file servers for years.
Have played with Samba PDC with2.2

OT: long - Replacing CD's? was RE: New type of copy-prot ected audio CDs are coming...
It won't be long until big labels attempt to eliminate the digital
ins and outs of equipment. The problem they face is most people
that currently use a rack system featuring digital interconnects will
NEVER revert to an analog only system. I know that I won't!
Think back to VHS, BetaMax, SVHS and LaserDisc.
VHS has incredible market share because its licensing is open.
Betamax was

samba newbie having trouble configuring samba on RH7.3...
I just downloaded Samba ver2.2.8a onto my RH server and I'm unsure on
how to properly configure samba. I've seen documentation online for the
older versions which contain instructions for running ./configure, make,
and make install. I don't see ./configure in my samba-2.2.8a directory
so I'm clueless on what to do next. Can anyone assist with this?
TIA

Changing Console Display Settings
Hmm.. after all these years I actually have a monitor on my desk beside
me going through a couple of KVMs to our racks. So, I hope to make more
use of direct console connections instead of shelling in.
But, now.... the text has always been huge and the interface clunky. And
after a bit of googling around, and file searching on the system, I
can't seem to find where or if there is a way to

Roaming Profiles: Advantages and disadvantages?
Hello everyone. I wanted to get some feedback and opinions from people
regarding the use of Roaming profiles.
originally, I was planning on using roaming profiles. However, I am
starting to wonder if this is such a good idea. The reason is that, if I
implement roaming profiles, there is a good chance that there will be
network congestion as well as a lot of stress on the server. (50 users so

domain language?
RSpeckers:
I went with RSpec instead of Systir because I downloaded and installed
the former first.
(I know that''s not exactly a ringing endorsement! ;-)
I want to compete with FIT and Fitnesse, like this:

Winbind running on Samba PDC for shell logins
Hello all-
I setup a Samba 3.0.8 PDC w/ simple tdb backend and it's working great.
The full RPC based printing w/ drivers installed on the samba server
is sweet.
I know down the line I may want the windows users to be able to possibly
authenticate for other services like e-mail (via Pop or a webmail type
service perhaps) or shell logins on the same PDC. I didn't want to
have unix vs.

metacity theme support in gnome-window-decorator
I played a little bit yesterday with adding metacity theme support to
gwd and it looks like it's not going to be very hard. Hopefully I'll
have it working in the next couple of days. What I've done is to rip out
all the parts of the metacity code that is required for theme support
(boxes.c, gradient.c, theme-parser.c, theme.c, util.c). Ideal would be
if we could put this part of

Thanks.

Metadata
Having not been reading the list regularly for the past few months, I've
been reading through for the past few days trying to catch up. I was
wondering what the current state of Vorbis metadata was. Has anything
been agreed upon as far as how metadata is to be stored? It seems every
time this was brought up before it turned into a large debate and nothing
was ever resolved.

Why is transform="km" the default for cox.zph?
To enhance my understanding, and that of my students, I have a question
about cox.zph in the survival package.
If I have correctly gleaned the high-level point from the 1994
Biometrika paper of Grambsch and Therneau, it looks to me like
cox.zph provides a mechanism to test for a simple trend in plots
of a function of time, g(t) versus the scaled schoenfeld
residuals and it also provides some
