Agreed. As I recall, there were a number of issues that we could never
settle. In order to try and make some progress, I'll throw out this:
Is it crucial to interleave the time sensitive data into the stream?
Yes:
Is it crucial/acceptable that XML is used?
Yes:
Use XML for non time-sensitive metadata, and a non-xml stream to
contain the time-sensitive metadata.
No:
Use/define a procotol/encoding for storing the metadata while
interleaving the time sensitive info
No:
Is it crucial/acceptable that XML is used?
Yes:
Use a single XML object to store all metadata.
No:
Stop talking about XML and find some other suitable standard.
RDF would be a better solution than XML, and the heaviest part of RDF is
having the stinkin' XML parser. So, if we decide to use XML, the next
question needs to be whether or not we go with plain XML or RDF.
