Administration
I know this may sound a bit lazy, but I don't really wanna bother with
writing many scripts from the Administration of my SMB-2.2.2 as an NT PDC
Box... (like adding users, deleting users, adding shares and modifying
passwords stuffs, knowing that I do the Unix-SMB password sync)... So does
anyone have good scripts, or some reference pages?? I searched everywhere in
vain for that...

WINS Question?
I have setup my Samba server as a WINS server using the wins support = yes
parameter.
My remote network can see the Samba server at our head office fine.
I have also setup the WINS setting on my PC (W2K Pro box) to point to the IP
address of my Samba server.
When I do a nmblookup -R -U <IP address of WINS server> <name of my PC> on
my Samba server I get this reponse;

Hi everyone out there in the world,
I found a small problem with SWAT. I can easily switch off Samba with SWAT,
but I am not able to start Samba with SWAT using the status panel. Is that
correct or am I doing something wrong. I'm using Samba 2.0.0 and the

Subject: I see my samba server but.............
Well first problem I see is you editied your sbm.conf...Should be smb.conf
;-)
Can you access it as root? Id start by making sure the permissions are
correct. And that the Sharename in smb.conf matches the folder name on the
server and that the path is correct.

SWAT
I was playing with this on my test machine, (redhat 5.2, samba 2.0.3)
worked great, and I was really impressed.
So I decided to install this on my office machine. (redhat 4.2, samba
2.0.3) and the only significant difference is that on the
office machine, I use encrypted passwords.
I cannot get swat to authenticate on the second machine. That is, no
matter what account, password combination

Trouble with ISOLINUX and IDE bus resets.
Hpa,
Dell ships a CD called Dell OpenManage Server Assistant that,
starting with version 8.0 released last November, is a Linux-based
bootable CD. It uses ISOLINUX to load a linux kernel/initrd combo to
start the system. From version 8.0 to 8.2 we use isolinux version 1.66.
Starting with version 8.3 we have upgraded to version 2.08. First of
all, I'd like to say thanks for your excellent

Mounting Samba shares under KDE 3.x
Hi,
I'm trying to mount the samba shares into my SuSE 9.2 workstation, with
no luck. Our server is in production, so there's nothing wrong in our
samba server. But I can't mount my shares under KDE.
Doing it with mount -t smbfs gives me a lot of Time Out errors, and the
mount is unable to show any files. Seems that the smbfs module is broken
in the 2.6.8 kernel. I don't know

Hello everybody,
as most of you probably remember, my company (ITOMIG) launched an initiative

this initiative, we're arranging an informational event next week on
thursday afternoon in Stuttgart. We'll present Wine and its capabilities

yum-3.2.8 for Centos 4 backport, part II.
Hi,
I have again worked on yum 3.2.8 for Centos 4 today, after a long time.
The result is backported package yum-3.2.8-9.el4.hrb.2.1.5 which is the
upgrade of yum-3.2.8-9.el4.hrb.2.1.3 I've been using smoothly for quite
a long time.
Packages are in testing repos:

rsync and cygwin part II
OK, I had emailed yesterday about an issue backing up a W2K machine using
rsync under Cygwin. I was having trouble backing up the root directory, and
I'm happy to say that the suggestion of using /cygdrive/c seems to have
worked!
Unfortunately, now I'm getting another error. The error is this:
