SAMBA Server Not Seen in Network Brotherhood
AIX 5.1 / SAMBA 2.2.5
SAMBA server is a host server only (no PDC / WINS etc) in a 2000 AD domain. All shares can be accessed / authenticated correctly when mapped or called.
But when a client browses MicroSoft Network Neighborhood the server does not show up. It does show up in Active Directory. We've still got users that cannot get away from Network Brotherhood usage.

Changing Domains from NT4 / AD 2000
Hello all.
AIX 4.3.3 / Samba 2.0.6 / Production NT4.0 domain
Security = DOMAIN
encrypt passwords = yes
update encrypted = yes
Action: Moving from NT4.0 domain called nt40 to AD 2000 Domain called ad-domain
Problem: Users that have been migrated to ad-domain cannot authenticate to AIX SAMBA shares . . . the AIX SAMBA server is still part of the nt40 domain.
Explanation: I can however, map /

SMB Signature verification failed on incoming packet!
I am running Samba 3.0.9/KRB5 1.4 on Centos 3.4 on x86 with security = ADS in a Win2k3 domain. I have successfully used kinit to authenticate, joined the domain, and wbinfo -g/-u/-t return the expected results. However, when I try and access the samba shares from a Win2k3 box, it fails telling me I don't have permissions to access the share. Needless to say I am thoroughly perplexed. I have

File locking issues
HPUX 10.20 / Samba 2.0.6
The owners of a share can create, edit, delete any all files from any MS office tools ASCII
files what ever . . . but with a PC based application that is a database controlled by
metadata files and locking files they get the "standard cannot write filename" UNLESS
the "Force Create Mode" is set to 0777. The log file for this workstation / user gives:

Call does not go voicemail
The "error" I was talking about was in your log:
"...== Spawn extension (extensions, 4, 3) exited non-zero on
'IAX2/home_server-6364'..."
The call terminated here in a error which prevented the dialplan from
continuing. Something there is broken, my recommendation is to check you
registrations first inside asterisk:

Home Share Question
HPUX / AIX / Samba 2.0.6
I'm trying and getting frustrated with configuration of the SMB.CONF
file to get the [homes] share to be the only name listed when
users browse to these servers. I don't want to have the share
auto renamed to the user name that is attaching. The SMB.CONF
help file states that this can be done. Can someone please tell
me the SMB.CONF [homes] variables that need

Working Fine - Suddenly Not
Hello All,
AIX 4.3.3 / Samba 2.0.6
Have had no problems in months accessing shares / using SAMBA. This morning users
called to say that they cannot connect. Stopped and restarted the NMBD and SMBD
services. smbstatus shows no issues. Log files show users attempting to connect but
no errors as to why they get the message "\\<server_name> is not accessible The session

NT_STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED
Hi
My Windows folks made security changes in AD that caused my Samba server to not work with AD anymore. Clients could not authenticate to their shares using their AD credentials anymore. Looking at the Samba log I could see error so I decided to reset the Computer account and to rejoin Samba to AD again.
When I tried to join Samba to AD, "net ads join -U username", I got the following

CallerID shows wrong values in manager interface
Hi everyone,
My manager interface seems to be producing wrong CallerIDs when
internal extensions call each other. Can anyone see anything wrong in
the configuration snippets pasted below? The following instance has
extension 101 call 103. The phone does show the right caller ID, but
notice that the manager interface has the CallerID as the target
number (103).
Thanks a lot for your time.

Authentication failure
Hi I'm having trouble routing a call between two A*k servers I admin.
SERVER- A: has a simple extensions set, and just needs to Dial to server
B, but authenticate as part of the dial:
exten =>
777,1,Dial(SIP/abc-777:mypassword at someip.no-ip.info:5071/777,40,trw)
exten => 777,2,Hangup
So that should pass the call to the server listening on port 5071 of
someip.no-ip.info,

TRW: getters and setters
Hi all,
I mentioned this on the forum but wasn''t sure if
anyone was paying attention. I was just wondering if
it would be possible to replace the
get_something/set_something style methods with the
more Rubyish something/something= style (i.e. uniform
access).
For example, the Button class currently has
button.get_label and button.set_label("foo"). It
would give me warm,

How to have a directory and its subdirectories as a storage pool
Hi,
I would like to use btrfs subvolumes as storage place for VM images to
use snapshots.
Unfortunately, this does not seem to work in virt-manager at least
since the "filesystem directory" storage pool type does not allow me
to descend into subdirectories.
Is there a trick to do this? Can I do it with virsh, or in the XML?
Greetings

How to use /dev/mapper in virt-manager/libvirt
Hi,
my test host is running Debian/GNU Linux unstable and has virt-manger
0.9.5 and libvirt 1.2.1. I am using encryption and thus have devices
in /dev/mapper that are not LVs, for example called
/dev/mapper/myvirtualdisk.
I'd like to configure libvirt in a way that allows me to directly
assign such devices to a VM. This does not work when I create a

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie,
Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would
you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT
and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this
under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines
have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT)..

CRLF/LF Conversion
Hi everybody!
I hope that you are not already "pissed off" of all the crlf/lf conversion
discussion between dos and unix ;-)
Concerning that topic I have a question / suggestion:
This is what we have:
We are using a Win NT 4.0 Server with Win95 clients. Additionally we have a
Sun (Solaris 2.5) running in the same network. To access the Sun in character
mode we use a terminal

Simple Samba server for "at home" - what do I need and what not?
Hello,
after two decades without a dedicated file server at home, it is about
time to have Samba.
While I am mainly a Linux guy there is a couple of systems that don't
find rsync and sshfd adequate. We do have a handfull of standalone
Windows 10 machines, a bunch of smartphones and a zoo of home
entertainment appliances such as a TV, Sat receivers, IP radios/audio
players. In addition to
