HPUX 10.20 / Samba 2.0.6 The owners of a share can create, edit, delete any all files from any MS office tools ASCII files what ever . . . but with a PC based application that is a database controlled by metadata files and locking files they get the "standard cannot write filename" UNLESS the "Force Create Mode" is set to 0777. The log file for this workstation / user gives: smbd/nttrans.c: (2193) unpack_unix_permissions: unknown SID used in ACL Any direction, hints, or of course answers are respectfully appreciated. I had sent an early inquiry as to why an NT application called Statemate / Magnum would complain and fail on a file create / change when any other file function of MS office tools had no problems. Unless I configured the share to do a "Force Create Mode = 0777", then this application worked. I've been reading the online copy of oreilly's SAMBA book. Ran across the "oplocks" section. Could this be the case / solution? Sounds likely. I suppose to find out if this applicaiton uses oplocks, I should place a call to the software's support staff. Please let me know if I'm chasing a "wild hare" here. Thank You.
