Tinyproxy and shorewall setup
Hello I''m trying to setup tinyproxy and shorewall on a LEAF Bering firewall. What I''d like to do is block all HTTP connections to the internet on port 80 and 8080 and force users to use port 8888.
So in shorewall/rules I have
ACCEPT loc fw tcp 8888
DROP loc fw tcp 80,8080
The ACCEPT works fine but the DROP does not seem to work. If I

WAS: XP home -> Samba NOW: Must be other networking issues...
Thank you to all who helped me with this problem. I am now convinced
the problem is not just something wrong in the smb.conf file, but must
be more of a port deny issue or something.
Couple of questions:
Do all XP computers (including XP home?) need the 'plain-password-hack'
to talk to a Samba server? Remember XP Home is different than XP Pro,
XP Home can not join a domain, more like

XP can see Linux but Win98 can't
Dear Samba List:
Thx in advance for all help that can be provided. I have set up a
samba server on a RedHat 8.0 box, and I know I've got it configured
correctly, because I can do everything I would ever want to do with it
with a networked Windows XP laptop. However, a third and fourth
machine, both running 98SE, also on the network, cannot see the server,
no matter what I try. These two

Win XP-home connecting to Samba, ahhh, please help!
I'm about ready to pull my teeth out over this. I just installed Red
Hat 8.0, have not used Linux much in the past, which is why I went with
Red Hat, sposeto be easier, more support etc.
The network the Linux box resides in has 2 WinXP-home computers, and a
Win200 Pro computer. They are all sharing all files, no passwords, no
domain, just a workgroup called "ESR".
I just want the

H&R Block Tax cut with wine
I purchased H&R Block Tax cut Deluxe to do my 2004 taxes.
I decided to give The Feb 2005 version of Wine under Fedora 1 a try
before rebooting my machine to Windows and actually starting to work on my
taxes.
Wine seemed to install Tax Cut with out any problems.
However, when I tried to start Tax Cut 2004 , it complained that Mozilla did
not have an
active X Browser and offered to go on

pluralization issue? (taxes/taxis)
Hi all,
Here''s an odd one. I have a "Tax" model which is related via a habtm
relationship to a "Storefront" model. In my view_store rhtml file, I
have the line :
@storefront.taxes.each do |tax|
This line returns the following error:
NameError in Admin#view_store
Showing app/views/admin/view_store.rhtml where line #52 raised:

Password Aging Policies - SAMBA
I am new to SAMBA. I am using it with LINUX and I love it! Nice change from you know who.
I am sorry if this is a lame question, but I am setting up a Primary Domain Controller and a Backup Domain Controller. All the clients are Windows 2K or XP. I need the clients to reset their passwords every 30 days. I am having a hard time locating a procedure to set this feature. LINUX has 'chage'

A bug report?
Folks,
I have a strange situation, which I may have isolated as a bug
report. Or, it could just be that there's something about R that I
don't know. :-) I have attached the data file and the program file but
don't know whether these attachments will make it into the list. Here
is my bugreport.R program --

Could not find kernel image: memdisk error
Hi, I looked at the web
http://clic.mandrakesoft.com/documentation/pxe/ch06.html,
and create a floppy boot image by :
dd if=/dev/fd0 of=boot.img. I copied the boot.img to
/tftpboot, and my /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default is :
default freedos
display boot.msg
label freedos
   KERNEL memdisk
   APPEND initrd=/boot.img
When I boot up my client, it shows :

Re: Multiple client access same file
Ohh, hmm. I'll try it at work if I get some time and
see what happens. I have a Samba benchmark I can run
against one of our unused servers, and I'll try to
have 16 "users" access the same iso copied and mounted
twice, just as you're doing.
I might not get time to do this next week, so in the
mean time, a good troubleshooting technique is to
strip any as many smb.conf

Windows XP Profiles
Hi,
I just recently installed Windows XP on one of the
computers in my network (previously all Windows 98) which
uses Samba as a Primary Domain Controller. After making
the required changes for adding machine accounts, I am able
to log on using Samba as a PDC. My question is how to get
profiles working the way I want them to.
I would like profiles to be stored locally and
automatically created

Was: XP Problem Now: FIXED!!!
Well, turns out there was nothing wrong with any of the Samba stuff
afterall, all it was is while doing the install of Red Hat 8.0, I
selected "custom" configuration, and "medium" security. Well, that
"medium" security setting killed me, it was apparently stopping all
necessary traffic. A bright friend of mine had me type in:
'/etc/rc.d/init.d/iptables
