Samba using Virtual Servers (load balancing)
Hello fellow samba users,
Our company uses samba for all fileshares/printing/PDC on
two SUN E3500's. We like to replace these with about 10
Linux 19" XEON (pizza)boxes. The question: Are there
any implementation out there using a loadbalancing cluster
doing samba?
A simple diagram of the setup I have in mind:

Samba spanning subnets
Hello,
I am in the process of trying to get a large network (300+ systems) spanning
3 subnets to be able to display all windows machines in the Network
Neighborhood. After reading through copious amounts of documentation, using
Samba as a domain controller and then having systems on each subnet seemed
to be the best approach.
I set one of the machines to be the domain controller for what was my

NIS Authentication Help!
Hello, I have a question that I was wondering if someone could help me
with. I am an admin at RIT and we have a large network base of Sun
machines. We do authentication via NIS over NFS. We are about to
receive a full lab of Windows boxes and need to set up a samba server to
serve users' home directories to the Windows boxes. This initial
configuration is relatively easy, but we want

samba in a High Availability Configuration
Hello,
I'm sorry to post High availability oriented questions to this list, but
I was wondering about some samba configuration parameters and what
options are available.
I am using heartbeat, and to make a long story short, i have a floating
IP alias between 2 servers. (192.168.1.1 for example). When one server
is serving the data, it 'has' this ip. if the server fails over, the

[Fwd: samba 30alpha21 + NT4/2K WS-s]
Hi,
I have some strange problems with 3.0a21 PDC (samba and nss use both
ldap) and I can't find any good help with google...
One strange thing is that logon script does'nt work anymore, it worked
at one point and now doesnt (I quite play around here and I dont know in
which point of changing smb.conf it stopped to work).
[netlogon] share is like that:

samba as fileserver backup fileserver
newbie question, but i can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I would like to set up a primary samba file server and a backup samba file server. if the primary file server fails i would like the backup server to take over as the main file server as automaticly as possible. was looking at rsync to backup primary server share files to the backup server, i think that might be part of the answer

Multiple PDCs, Single Domain
Hello,
I have a rather experimental question to ask.
I know that under standard circumstances, that you cannot have multiple
PDC for a single domain, as they will conflict with each other.
I am dealing with a case of a school district, where there are multiple
buildings. There are T-1s that tie together each of the buildings, then a
bonded T-1 grants access to the internet through the main admin

samba backup software
I'm curious to what people are using for backing up their samba servers.
Here's are some specs to consider:
- 1TB (yes, that's terabyte) of data
- multiple servers backup to one tape drive connected to a server
(preferably a linux system)
- using an autoloader (in this case, an HP 1/9 LTO system)
- need to be able to backup daily changes and/or changes since last full
backup

allow ssh access from net to fw?
Hi,
I''m trying to enable ssh (when that works, want to add:pop3s,smtp,web) from
the internet to the firewall but it does not work.
I managed to DNAT ftp to a host in the loc network (192.168.0.50) successful
but I don''t know why SSH:
Does not work for me:
ACCEPT net fw tcp 22
Works from the loc network:
ACCEPT loc fw tcp 22
I have tried also with (no success):

BAD rsync, or is it bad me?
Something very scary just happened to me while I was creating a ksh script
to rsync mulitple FS between two hosts. Here is the script, notice the 'i'
at the end of rsync line, it got put there by mistake. You also see the
contents of $FSLIST cat'd below the script. When I ran this, it started to
delete files in root's home directory and place files from the fist FS,

Heteroscedasticity in a percent-cover dataset
Hi,
I am currently trying to do a GLMM on a dataset with percent cover of
seagrass (dep. var) and a suite of explanatory variables including algal
(AC) and epiphyte cover (EC), rainfall, temperature and sunshine hours.
M2=glmer(SG~AC+EC+TP+SS+RF+(1|Location/fSi/fTr),
family=binomial,data=data,nAGQ=1)
As the dependent variable is percent cover, I used a binomial error
structure. I also have a

when I'm (trying) to use userdb prefetch with ldap, it works fine for
system users, but for virtual users without their own uid and gid, it
won't work. I get in the log:

Menu - labels
Webgen uses file paths to generate multilevel menues, bread crumbs etc. And
limits the character range in paths to a-zA-Z. As the directory names are
used verbatim as menu labels this is fairly limitting for non-english pages.
Is there a way to map directory names to configurable UTF8 strings for menu
labels?

Cross compiling of software depending on libvorbis
Hi
I'm trying to compile my game project (that depends on libvorbis) for
the win32 platform. I use mingw (both native in linux and inside cygwin)
to achieve this.
But I can't get libvorbis to work because of a dependency problem with
libogg. libogg seems to have a file (os_types.h) that depends on an
include-file called _G_config.h. This file is supposed to contain some
system-specific
