Samba3 Win95 interoperability
Greetings,
I am trying to get samba3 to work well with W95. The windows 95
box can see the samba server, but cannot authenticate (claims wrong
password) to get to any shares. I know the smbpasswd is good as I can
authenticate and get to the shares using the same account and password on
a W2000 machine. I suspect I am doing something wrong in the [global]
section of the samba server.

Remote win98 refusing to connect to samba server
The problem: attempting to connect to a samba network drive from a
Windows 98 machine gives me the error message: "Not logged on".
Background:
We have been running samba to serve a number of w95 clients for a couple
of years. Some of the clients are remote and we don't bother with running
nmbd(8), so all clients have LMHOSTS files.
The problem is related to a new W98 machine

Is it possible to have 2 WIN servers on the same network?
We have a network of apx 200 NT's,W95 & W98 using an NT machine for WINS
resolution.
Our dept has apx 15 W95/W98 machines hooked to a hub off a switch from the
main network. I would like to setup SAMBA to act as a WIN server for just
these
machines. Is it possible to do without changing subnets?
Now to complicate the question. Network login is done via an NT machine as
well. If we

Logon scripting for W95/98
All,
As some of have no doubt found out, scripting is subtly different on 95/98
machines and NT machines. I have a logon script called by:
logon script = xxxx\main.bat %G %U
that works great for NT boxen. However it does absolutely nothing, no
execution of main.bat at all for a W98 client. If I remove the parameters
so it is:
logon script = xxxx\main.bat
it executes on the W98 box,

locale problem in W98
Dear all
I am using two computers, one with Windows2000 and the other one with W98
both have the same version (precompiled binary) R 1.8.1 and I have experienced a
slight problem with text used in plotting on W98 machine.
When I try to write some local characters into R console

in W2000 **everything** is OK but in W98 some of the characters

Windows 95
I am having a problem with some Windows 95 PC's .
I had Samba 2.0.5 installed on a Sun system with Solaris 6, and a local
network of PC's with W95 and W98, and everything was working fine. I then
installed a new server with Solaris 8, and changed the IP addresses on the
network, and the W98 PC was fine as was one of the W95 PC's, but 2 W95Pc's

My Workgroup eventually disappears when I enable SAMBA!
When I enable Samba on my Linux box, the workgroup "Workgroup" eventually
disappears from site in both the GUI "Network Neighbourhood" and at the
W2000 cmd line "net view". It takes a little while for this to happen, and
initially it works well.
The Linux Box information can be found at the url below. But a short
description of the setup is as follows:

sharing port with nmdb
Hi,
I'm a french student from Ecole des Mines of Nantes. Students of my
engineering school live in a residence with its own local network,
access to sun workstation at school for working and a Internet access
througth a firewall.
In each room of the residence, we have a RJ25 plug. We just need a
network card and a computer to go on this network. As you can expected,

special chars in windows filenames
Hi folks!
I upgraded a red hat linux fileserver (kernel version 2.4.18-14)
from samba 2.x to samba 3.02.
After the upgrade, the special chars in windows filenames
(German Umlaute) were no more visible to clients but either
substituted with a little black rectangle or completely suppressed -
depending on the client operating system (W2000/W98).
Within the archived list I found a hint that the

1 wk2 server with 2 names; is it possible?
Hi,
I tried to post in the windows newsgroup, but I didn't get replies
because maybe there the users are not very conscious of what they
are doing. ;-)
I can't choose to go with samba (as I'd like best), because on the w2k
server of the subject there are some windows application that
doesn't work on linux or samba.
Sorry if it's a FAQ, and if it is let me know where can I

smbmount not exiting in script
I run a script to mount several file shares from machines running W98
and W2000 so that I can do incremental dumps every night of these file
shares.
smbmount almost always fails to exit. This causes the script to stall
and so the dumps are not done. In the am, if I kill the smbmount
processes, the dumps complete successfully, since the mounts were in
fact correctly completed. (I know that

I have c code that produces vector sequences for plotting. I use NA_REAL to
create an NA that will pass back to R to break the line. This code worked fine

windows2000 the NA_REAL returns -6.623485e-229 on both

Printing problem. (nmb related??)
Hi Folks,
I've been using linux for the past 4 years. I'm currently running RH 6.2
and samba 2.0.6.
My goal has been to eliminate MS from my computer and I'm almost there. I'm
trying to use samba to allow printing to my printer from other W95 & W98
computers. I've read the HOWTOs and generated the smb.conf file which is
at the end of this message. I used the [test]

I have a working samba server on RH Linux 7.3 (samba v2.2.4). My shares and
printers can be connected and used by my W95, W98 and XP clients - no
problems there.
However, my Apple (Powerbook G4 running OSX 10.1.4) cannot connect using the

Or
