Perhaps you need to fix the SID in a couple of places. Appropriate privileges of users on Win clients
Hi Everyone, when I first switched my users from a Win2K advanced server to samba I included the group of "Authenticated users" in the local group "Administrators" on all clients as a quick fix for the unexpected gotcha that all of a sudden after switching to samba no one had any privileges to change any of the optional properties of the Desktop, the Taskbar or the

getData.lme error
hi list, i am making some diagnostic plots using plot.lme(), my lme model was fit with the option na.action='na.exclude'. On the following (or similar) commands: plot(flu.trees.42.w25.10.2, resid(., type="p") ~ fitted(.)|species, abline=0) R returns an error message: Error in getData.lme(object) : couldn't find function "naAct" It turns out that the function

"attrib +R myowndir" fails to write-protect my owndir
I hope Time won't take me to a CDMA court martial in Guantanamo for unfair use of your quotes, Daniel! The point is that each norm is only really valid in its original context. It is the spirit of the norm which should guide us. The idea is: you slap an unorthodox attribute onto an object to evoke any kind of practical magic and then laugh your sides off. Who cares? The same with Readonly.

"attrib +R myowndir" fails to write-protect my own dir
A trivial case: executing the following DOS command from the prompt line on a Win2K SP3: %windir%\system32\attrib.exe +R H:\dir can't set the R(eadonly) flag on my home dirs (2.2.7): drwxrwsr-x 4 me users 4096 Nov 27 17:59 . drwxr-sr-x 2 me users 4096 Nov 27 17:59 dir -r--r--r-- 1 me users 0 Nov 27 17:59 empty.txt drwxr-sr-x 2 me users 4096 Nov 27 17:27

"Special" link folders - Readonly attrib
Hi Everybody, I've recently installed 2.2.5 on a SuSE 8.1 box and found a discrepancy. I've scanned the whole mailing list for the problem but only found several postings claiming it not resolving it. In short: Folder links consisting of a write-protected directory with an SH (System, Hidden) "Desktop.ini" and an A (Archive) "target.lnk" don't replicate

Issues with Samba
Hi I cannot seem to find any information regarding this in the mailing lists . I am testing a UNIX PDC before I implement it to general use in the network . It works fine It would appear with the win 2000 clients. But I essentially have two problems 1. When I have PGP installed on the machine and log in with a roaming profile . It creates a network associates folder that does not get

ACL issues still unresolved
Hi all, The two problems I'm having with ACLs on a W2k domain are still no closer to a solution. To wit, they were: (a) Users accessing the ACL properties dialog on W2k can modify and remove existing ACLs on a given file, but they cannot add new ones (that can only be done with setfacl on the cmdline; the changes are then recognised); (b) In said ACL properties dialog, the usernames

[BUG] Problem with Case Sensitivity for Usernames between a Samba PDC & Windows
- Compiled Samba version 2.2.4 - Slackware Linux, Kernel 2.4.17 - Windows 2000 Professional, SP2 Here's what I know: You have username MyNetworkUsername (exactly with case) in /etc/samba/smbpasswd and /etc/passwd. You have Samba running as a PDC, with unix password sync enabled. Password Sync options at default for the most part (passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u). In W2K, you

NT PDC to Samba PDC migratio
I thought that it was quite impossible to do that due to the Domain SID as well as the SAM list that currently Samba is unable to retrieve. (Not that it would have helped me any, since our old NT 4.0 PDC took a major Hardware failure.) How would one duplicate the SID, is that possible with 'smbpasswd -S' from the new Samba DC? Locating the MACHINE.SID fil
Additional Info... I am beginning to think that a file called 'secrets.tdb' might be what I am looking for. Inside that file is something mentioning SID. Of course, it also mentions the name of the PDC. If that is the file I am supposed to copy over. Then it is done. However, I still need a little more input for setting up a Samba BDC. With a Samba BDC, should I leave the

Not able to login to Samba P
I believe that your issue is related to UNIX permissions. The location of your profiles directory must be set to allow all users R/W to it. Create a new group in your group file and add every user to it. Then change the ownership of the profiles directory. Also make sure that all of your users have R/W permissions on that directory. Automounting a shared Windows Drive with
Hello, I have a few ideas about how to make my Linux server mount up a shared folder on a Windows machine at boot time, however I would like to know if there are other methods of getting it to work. I have considered building a startup script with a high number to have the system smbmount the shared drive like a service, in case of a power outage. I believe that would be considered

Performance Increase Suggestions
Hello Everyone, I have a few users that are complaining about the "slowness" of copying files to and saving files directly to the Samba server. From my own recollections, the speed is rather identical to the speed we experienced on our old Windows NT 4.0 fileserver. One thing that could be the impetus of this issue is that Samba is serving up files, for opening and copying from the
