NTconfig.pol not used
I am running Samba 2.2.7a on SuSE 8.0 and all Windows/XP clients in a PDC configuration.
All runs great except for one problem.
I cannot get NTconfig.pol to be used. I have placed it in the netlogon share and read/execute permissions are wide open.
I turn on samba loglevel=3 and I never see samba even try to look for NTconfig.pol, or any *.pol file. This occurs for all of my clients.

Samba with winbindd AD Group access limit problem
I'm running Samba 3.0.2 on Solaris using winbindd to allow me to security
tailor access to subdirectories on a Samba share. We assign the
subdirectories within a Samba share to an Active Directory group name. This
generally works fine but I am having user access issues from the Win2K / Win
XP workstations that have mapped the share. The problem seems to be related
to the number of groups /

client VPN disconnects samba shares
I am running Samba 2.2.7a in domain mode .. all is great.
I have a XP user on my local network that connects to samba as a domain user - so far so good.
This users also has a Cisco VPN client for connecting over the internet to another application at a service bureau. When the VPN client is activated, all traffic from this machine is only forwarding network traffic over the VPN pipe. Obviously,

(Repost to list) Copying large files xp pro -> Samba very slow
I previously posted this to the linux.samba mailing list. I'm not sure
that was the right place, so here it is again. Apologies if you've already
seen it.
Hi,
I would really appreciate any hep with a big problm I'm having with XP
(Pro / SP1 ) transferring to a samba share.
The transfer starts off OK, using about 66% of my 100Mbs network.
Then, after about 10-15 seconds, it drops off

Can anyone get winbind to update group membership?
Hi all,
Does this work for anyone out there? I've never gotten it to work:
(the set up is Samba as a member of an Active Directory run by Windows
servers.)
--------------
1. Pick an NT group that's been there since you installed Samba,
and of which you are a member. I'll call it DOMAIN\Oldgroup.
2. Run "chgrp DOMAIN\\Oldgroup test" then "chmod g+w,o-w

R 2.0.0: namespaces, S4 classes & versioned package installation: failure to resolve correct pkg version
Hi,
further down from the problem I asked about yesterday I encounter the following
problem (please appologize for the lengthy mail - I have not found a brief example
making the issue clear):
- using R packages making use of namespaces &
- S4 classes
when using
--with-package-versions in the install call:
Pkgs install ok and the first pkg 'base' can be loaded in R

R mailing list archive: alternative interface
For a programming competition (http://railsday.com) I recently
entered, I created a web-application to nicely display mail archives.
I've loaded up a couple of months worth of r-devel mail and made it
available here: http://listomagic.had.co.nz/
The big advantages over the currrent mailman archive are:
* messages are threaded, and messages in a thread are displayed
together, and some

SAMBA PDC, WinXP SP1 - config attached!
I am a SAMBA newbie, although I have spent many days perusing the newgroups
and web for information before I posted my problem. I appreciate any time
you put into helping me out. Here's my situation:
I can log on to the domain with my WinXP non-SP1 machine, works just fine,
no problems at all. However, if I try to use either of my SP1 machines,
here is what I get:

[SQL]
Hi,
The data for my new project are in a bunch of .sql files, instead of the
clasic csv files that I'm used to work with.
Could someone explain to me how to read these files into R?
Thanks,

slow NFS speed
We upgraded from a 10/100Mbs to a 2 100/1000 bonding. We notice the
speeds of NFS to be around 70-80Mb/sec. Which is slow, especially with
bonding. I was wondering if we need to tune anything special with the
Network and NFS. Does anyone have any experience with this?
TIA

Difference Between WINE and an Emulator
I've got someone who doesn't understand that WINE Is Not an Emulator and
apparently doesn't get the FAQ on the site. I personally don't use WINE (still
being on Windows kinda avoids the need), so I don't really have the knowledge
to argue this much farther. Here's his latest point (formating in clasic
usenet style below), I need something simple that says,

Samba - Problem Connecting PCs
Hi,
I want to setup Samba as a new PDC. I followed the instructions on IBM's
site (http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/esdd/tutorials/samba/index.html)
The problem I currently have is that Windows 9X boxes can't connect to the
Mandrake 9.1 Bamboo box.
However, I can make connections on localhost to localhost using smbclient
//localhost/share -U username
I've tried a couple of different

using samba-tool from a domain member other than the DC
Top posting.
Is this in freenas jail, perhaps?
If so, I'd take a long hard look at the underlying environment.
Semi off-topic.
FreeNAS on FreeBSD has a whole set of really weird issues, IMO.
For example; I was trying to get rsync or rdiff-backup to run [not in a jail, but just in the base context] and performance was really terrible and it would bomb for larger file syncs to a remote Linux
