Hello I've got some problems with log files and usernames. I was trying to make seperate log files for different users but I cannot get them to work when I specify log file = /var/log/samba.%u a file samba.%u appears in /var/log Am I missing something here or might it be a compile error? Cannot pause printer
Hi When I try to pause a printer it spits out an error that I don't have permission to pause the printer. It is pretty weird because I'm the administrator. I've tried to add the write list=ntadmin option but that doesn't work. Does anyone have a clue? TIA Maxor -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

User not privileged to join domain.
Hello I'm running the samba-3.0 alpha18 (I know it's alpha) but I think this has something to do with my configuration (see below). When I try to join my domain from a computer that has never been on the domain before it gives an error about unprivileged user. I use root/sauron as the admin users with the correct passwords. Documentation / boolean fix for oplocks = command
In the documentation the "oplocks = yes" option is give in an example, as the default for this parameter. However, I needed to turn oplocks off, and so assumed that the command "oplocks = no" would work. It doesn't, instead I found that "oplocks = false" does. There needs to be some boolean fixing done, or at least documentation should reflect this strangeness.

Linux, Samba and OS X 10.2
Hi, I have a Linux machine as Samba Fileserver, authentication through NT PDC, lots of W2K, NT and XP clients and some MAC clients running under OS X 10.2. People share documents on that server and for the M$ clients, it works. The OS X clients can read but not write. The error messages are directory related (permission), and sometimes we get the statement 'disk full'. But there are

losing print driver associations on reboot
Hello all, I've got a strange problem with Samba 2.2.4. I'm able to associate print drivers to printers (raw queue in cups). My clients are able to see that the drivers belong to the printers, and they download them, but as soon as the server reboots, I lose my driver associations and I need to once again specify a driver on the windows end. The Print server was an upgrade from Samba

printer permissions
A stupid question. With new printing system (spoolss) how people restrict access to the printers ? It was clear with the old system when each printer was in a separate share. I could assign a list of valid users for each printer share. TIA. -- Yuri Pismerov, Sr. System Administrator, TUCOWS.COM INC. (416) 535-0123 ext. 1352

use samba for WINS name resolution on solaris
I have a SUN/Solaris system that functions like a web proxy server. In our corporate environment, PC client/brower can access a web server using URL with WINS name as well DNS. Can Samba be configured to on the system to support/resolve WINS names by pointing to corporate WINS servers - in addition to DNS (configured in /etc/resolv.conf)? Thanks. How well does printing support scale in Samba 2.2.x ?
Hi, I'm working on a printing project consolidating a bunch of NT machines with a Solaris printing machine. I'm concerned about the scalability if I increase the number of printers from say 20 too 300. How does it effect the response time for looking up and changing device setting etc. Thanks Gunnar Gunnarsson

Slow driver properties?
I'm currently using Samba 2.2.5 on a Mandrake 8.0 box with cups 1.1.4. I have several printers shared that are accessed from winNT/2k/xp boxes. When I right click on the printer or select printer properties, or go to print from any of those other boxes, the response is slower than molasses. I have an identical machine running WinNT Workstation that was previously our print server. It is

Win2k Printer Woes Continue
I installed the printer patch on 2.2.4 on my Linux 7.3 box, reconfigured it (I think I did things in the correct order:configure, make realclean, run patch,configure,make,sh.makerpms.sh), created a new rpm, uninstalled the old samba, reinstalled the new rpm, fixed the conf files, reloaded samba and now my printers appear as "HPLASERJET on _smbserver". HPLASERJET is queue name which is

When 2.2.4 was released, I updated my cvs and did ./configure and make (no special options). Since I came in somewhat early today and nobody was around I did the make install. Everything ran fine until I tried to load a particular file and I'm receiving the following error and unable to open the file on a network share. If I place the file on a local drive it loads fine.
