What is the function of nmbd?
I've got Samba 2.2.2 installed and running fine on one of our servers (RS/6000 AIX 4.3.3 and using NT authentication), however, when I do Test #4 (from docs/textdocs/DIAGNOSIS.txt) it looks like this: npssrv{root}#nmblookup -B npssrv _SAMBA_ querying _SAMBA_ on 173.148.200.113 name_query failed to find name _SAMBA_ The test said I should get back the IP address of our samba server. checking nmbd
Hello. I just recently upgraded to redhat 9 from 7 & everything went smoothly except samba. Using the DIAGNOSIS.txt I get to step 3 (I think) & execute the following command nmblookup -B servername _SAMBA_ the return is thus querying _SAMBA_ on 127.0.0.1 name_query failed to find name _SAMBA_ the text advises that nmbd is not installed correctly. Well I'm using xinetd

SMB/NMBD configuration troubles.
Folks, I am stumped! I have followed every tech tip I could find and I am still unable to complete my SMB installation. Specifically, I fail Test 4 and Tests 9 and 10. I believe the problem has something to do with the NMBD configuration. Below are the parameters of our system. Any help is greatly appreciated. I don't know if I could have copied or written to these other directories - didn't try. Continued

nmbd hangs up after a few hours, kill -9 needed
Hi I?ve been seeing this issue since we updated from Samba 2.X to 3.Y, and I wanted to know if anyone has seen this: I have a samba PDC mantaining a domain composed of WinXP, Win200 and win98 machines with shared folders and user authentication (smbpasswd). It works fine for hours but then everybody stops being able to logon. When anyone tries to login in a WinXP machine, it only replies

nmbd not working under Solaris 2.6/Samba 1.9.17p4
Greetings, O Mighty SAMBA masters. A problem cropped up with our SAMBA implementation, which began when we upgraded the Sun Ultra 3000 on which it runs from Solaris 2.5.1 to Solaris 2.6. Our NT servers are no longer able to connect the the file services offered from that box, or at best, only intermittently. I began going through the "Diagnosing Samba" document (the one on the web

browsing/nmbd problem - OS X
Hi, I would be very grateful if anyone could give me a bit of help with this. I am trying to run Samba 3.0.5, as distributed with Mac OS X server 10.3.8, on an Apple Xserve. Things were working beautifully until I had problems with an IP address change and had to reinstall everything. At present, the situation seems to be that the smb protocol is operating, since I can make an smb

Failing tests 5 and 6 in DIAGNOSIS.txt?
Hi, While going through DIAGNOSIS.txt on my samba 2.2.2 server, I came across the following test results: Test 5: [root@NetServer samba]# nmblookup -B resaddr8.research.bio2.edu '*' querying * on 209.64.53.8 name_query failed to find name * This appears to be a partial failure? Asterisk RPMS for RH9 + RH7.3
Hello all, It's my birthday today, so as my present I would like everyone possible to download and test my updated set of RPMS for Asterisk 0.7.1. By popular request, I installed and built a set of RPMS for RedHat 9.0, and in the process fixed a bunch of issues from the initial build. I have also updated and will be maintaining a page on the Asterisk Wiki located at:
