Hi,
While going through DIAGNOSIS.txt on my samba 2.2.2 server, I came across
the following test results:
Test 5:
[root@NetServer samba]# nmblookup -B resaddr8.research.bio2.edu '*'
querying * on 209.64.53.8
name_query failed to find name *
This appears to be a partial failure?
Test 6:
Initially, I got:
[root@NetServer samba]# nmblookup -d 2 '*'
added interface ip=209.64.53.11 bcast=209.64.53.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
querying * on 209.64.53.255
name_query failed to find name *
It was suggested in DIAGNOSIS.txt that I experiment with the interfaces
directive in smb.conf, so I did:
interfaces = interfaces = eth0 209.64.53.11/255.255.255.0
interfaces = interfaces = eth0 209.64.53.11/24
both times I get the following:
[root@NetServer samba]# nmblookup -d 2 '*'
can't determine netmask for interfaces
can't determine netmask for added interface ip=209.64.53.11
bcast=209.64.53.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
querying * on 209.64.53.255
So, it appears that something is not working right with my broadcasting?
I'd appreciate any help I can get on making this right.
Also, I'm a UNIX veteran new to Windows networking. Is there a good place
to read about the different types of Windows networks like Workgroups
versus Domains and such? And if I can't get Samba working in time,
can someone help me make a useable filesystem(s) on the remaing 16G of
disk space on my NT server?
Alternatively, is there some free NFS-like alternative that might be
easier to implement than Samba?
Thanks in advance,
James
