PDC and BDC with LDAP and Samba 2.2.4
Hi, I'm trying to build a PDC and BDC to elimenate Windows NT on a network and have load balancing and fault tolerence for users. I've compiled samba 2.2.4 on two servers, working with openldap 2.0.23 with a master and a slave. Replication on LDAP servers works fine. I've set up a domain controller and wanted to set the other server as BDC in case the PDC goes down. Each time i put

Documentation Bugs (PR#1618)
Just a few documentation "bugs" that I've noticed recently. 1. In the help for (dpqr)weibull(), the formula given for the variance of a Weibull is wrong. The correct formula is b^2 * sqrt(gamma(1 + 2/a) - (gamma(1 + 1/a))^2)) Note that I've also changed Gamma to gamma, which I think is preferable since this is actually the name of the gamma() function

Windows XP and domain logon
Hello, I have installed samba 3.0.2a as PDC and BDC, I am able to add windows xp to domain and have added all the registry patches to windows xp, but when it comes to domain logon on windows xp client, the behaviour is very erratic, sometimes I am able to logon to domain and sometimes the domain logon fails, we need to restart the xp machine and keep trying to the domain logon. The error we

Firewall rules that discriminate by connection duration
I'm interested in crafting firewall rules that throttle connections that have lasted more than a certain amount of time. (Most such connections are P2P traffic, which should be given a lower priority than other connections and may constitute network abuse.) Alas, it doesn't appear that FreeBSD's IPFW can keep tabs on how long a connection has been established. Is there another firewall

s/key authentication for Apache on FreeBSD?
I'm constructing a Web server which may require restricted areas of the site to be used from public places where a password might be sniffed. The damage that could be done by taking snapshots of the content from one session with a spy program is minimal. What the owner of the server does NOT want, though, is to allow unauthorized parties to gain unfettered access by stealing the password via

LUN Aggregation
Greetings. Is there an approved way to aggregate LUNs when using OCFS2? I have several 1TB LUNs I'd like to make into a single filesystem. Would I use something like Linux software raid? Brett

[PATCH] syslinux/com32: Fix the printing of left zero padded hexadecimals with a leading '0x'.
From: Brett Walker <brett.walker at geometry.com.au> When printing hexadecimal numbers to a fixed width, padded with leading zeros, and also having a leading '0x'; the resultant string can be shortened by up to two characters if any leading zero padding character required is. int hexnum = 0x00001234; printf("%08X", hexnum); // results in 00001234

FreeBSD 9.1 stability/robustness?
I need to build up a few servers and routers, and am wondering how FreeBSD 9.1 is shaping up. Will it be likely to be more stable and robust than 9.0-RELEASE? Are there issues that will have to wait until 9.2-RELEASE to be fixed? Opinions welcome. --Brett Glass

Anyone know of complete hardware solution based IDE Raid Controllers?
Years ago Accusys made an IDE raid controller that presented itself as one drive to the BIOS, making the unit completely OS agnostic. Anything like that out there, anymore? Cheers, Brett.

Repeated attacks via SSH
Everyone: We're starting to see a rash of password guessing attacks via SSH on all of our exposed BSD servers which are running an SSH daemon. They're coming from multiple addresses, which makes us suspect that they're being carried out by a network of "bots" rather than a single attacker. But wait... there's more. The interesting thing about these attacks is that

(no subject)
Dear R Can you tell me how to change the working directory of R It's just that I have some text files that I wish to save separately from the R filing structure eg. into C:/my documents and need to change the working directory of R so that it reads these files . This means if I ever upgrade the current version of R nothing will be effected. brett Brett Stansfield Environmental Scientist -

Stream File Type?
I'm a newbie. I've just installed Icecast2 and am streaming to it successfully via Nicecast (great app BTW). My problem is that the stream from Icecast2 comes through as an .m3u which does not correctly open on any of the Mac or Windows machines that I've tried. When broadcasting directly from Nicecast the file type is a .pls which both iTunes and WMP seem to deal with just fine

Asterisk 1.6 (realtime) - Overwritten CallerID(num) Problem
Hello, I am running Asterisk 1.6 with Realtime enabled for my SIP users and peers. The backend is a MySQL database running through the ODBC backend in Asterisk. At this point everything works in terms of phones registering, placing calls between them, etc. However, I am having a problem setting the Caller ID number whenever I am using the Realtime database for the SIP users/peers. If I use a

chroot-ing users coming in via SSH and/or SFTP?
A client wants me to set up a mechanism whereby his customers can drop files securely into directories on his FreeBSD server; he also wants them to be able to retrieve files if needed. The server is already running OpenSSH, and he himself is using Windows clients (TeraTerm and WinSCP) to access it, so the logical thing to do seems to be to have his clients send and receive files via SFTP or SCP.

Debugging not triggered...
I tried using the killall -USR1 mongrel_rails to check on a problem, and all I get is mongrel_rails: no process killed Nothing shows in the log. Any ideas? I''m using the latest pre-release, and a ''ps'' shows my cluster is running. Cheers, Brett

Official Documentation for Asterisk 1.6 Realtime ODBC Tables
Hi All, I'm having an issue where Asterisk continuously sends out a GAZILLION "SIP NOTIFY" messages when a user has a voice message in their INBOX. This issue is only present when my SIP users and peers are configured from my ODBC backend (MySQL). A static configuration of users in sip.conf resolves this and everything works fine. I'd like to confirm the layout of the

MFC requests for 6.3
I would like to request that some useful work on networking be MFCed from -CURRENT to -STABLE in time for the release of FreeBSD 6.3. In particular, I'd like to see some of the Netgraph nodes which are new or which have seen extensive development brought in -- ng_nat and ng_car in particular. Bringing in the latest version of ng_nat would allow more flexible in-kernel NAT, while ng_car (which

Heartbeat Timeout Threshold
I've been using OCFS2 on a 3 way Centos 5.2 Xen cluster for a while now using it to share the VM disk images. In this way I can have live and transparent VM migration. I'd been having intermittent (every 2-3 weeks) incidents where a server would self fence. After configuring netconsole I managed to see that the fencing was due to a heartbeat threshold timeout so I have now increased
