Automating migration of files from windows to samba
Has anyone figured out a good automated way to migrate files from
Windows Server to Samba Server without compromising file ownership and
permissions?
We could just log on as each user and then drag and drop using windows
explorer to preserve the permissions and ownership rights but that is
not a very efficient method.
We are using Samba with winbindd against a windows 2000 Domain

My samba server works in a NT 4.0 domain. The users can print fine (mostly Win9x).
Now i'm trying to use Win2K workstation to upload drivers. I can see the printers, the properties are available but we i try to add a driver it fails with the following error : "Can't install driver Intel Windows 2000. Can't compleet statement" (translated from dutch).

Looking for a script to add/remove multiple shares from smb.conf
Has anyone ever written a script to remove individual shares from the
smb.conf file? I am trying to put together a script that will add &
remove multiple shares at once by giving a <sharelist as input to the
script.
Adding shares is easy because I can just append the shares to the
smb.conf file, but removing individual share entries within the smb.conf
file without messing up the

printer permissions
A stupid question. With new printing system (spoolss) how people
restrict access to the printers ? It was clear with the old system when
each printer was in a separate share. I could assign a list of valid
users for each printer share.
TIA.

Documentation / boolean fix for oplocks = command
In the documentation the "oplocks = yes" option is give in an example, as
the default for this parameter. However, I needed to turn oplocks off, and
so assumed that the command "oplocks = no" would work. It doesn't, instead I
found that "oplocks = false" does. There needs to be some boolean fixing
done, or at least documentation should reflect this strangeness.

Win2k Printer Woes Continue
I installed the printer patch on 2.2.4 on my Linux 7.3 box, reconfigured
it (I think I did things in the correct order:configure, make
realclean,run patch,configure,make,sh.makerpms.sh), created a new rpm,
uninstalled the old samba, reinstalled the new rpm, fixed the conf
files, reloaded samba and now my printers appear as "HPLASERJET on
_smbserver". HPLASERJET is queue name which is

losing print driver associations on reboot
Hello all, I've got a strange problem with Samba 2.2.4. I'm able to
associate print drivers to printers (raw queue in cups). My clients are
able to see that the drivers belong to the printers, and they download
them, but as soon as the server reboots, I lose my driver associations
and I need to once again specify a driver on the windows end. The Print
server was an upgrade from Samba

Win2K and printers
Seasons Greetings to One and All
....Hope this is the right place for this.
I have just set up a samba 2.2.2 domain server (PDC) all, pretty much
according to the howto's. All is working including the authentication of a
win2K/SP2 box, pretty chuffed with all this actually just aquired Linux
recently from a magzine.
I have one problem, that is in trying to get the win2k box to add a shared

unexpected.tdb
I have been using samba 2.2.2 for quit awhile running with security= share
in my company. I looked into the /var/lock/samba and found a growing file
unexpected.tdb. Is there a way to trim it down while samba is running or do
I have to start and stop samba?
Is this an expected behavior?

Changing drivers for already installed printers
Greetings, All,
I've run into an interesting problem with Samba 2.2.2 and dealing with
printer drivers for Windows 2000. I can install the drivers for nt4/2000 okay,
I can install the drivers for win98 okay.
The part I thought was really neat was how I could set the printer
options for Windows 2000 in the driver install so that when a user installed the
driver the correct printer

winxp + sambs 2.2.3a (as PDC) + printers = no go
Greetings. Here's my scenario:
1) I have a linux box running samba 2.2.3a, configured as a PDC.
2) I have a WinXP laptop that attempts to use the printers that are
configured on the samba server. NOTE: XP Laptop is NOT, repeat: NOT, in
the domain that the samba box controls. The XP boxs is part of a
workgroup instead.
3) XP box can see file shares on samba box fine. Just printers, at the

use samba for WINS name resolution on solaris
I have a SUN/Solaris system that functions like a web proxy server. In
our corporate environment, PC client/brower can access a web server
using URL with WINS name as well DNS. Can Samba be configured to on
the system to support/resolve WINS names by pointing to corporate WINS
servers - in addition to DNS (configured in /etc/resolv.conf)? Thanks.

Samba authenication to Window Active Directory
Has any version of Samba been tested for compatibility with the new Windows Active Directory?
We will be upgrading our NT domain to 2000 and creating Active Directory.
Currently our solaris samba 2.0.7 server is configured to authenicate users from our NT domain controllers. Will we encounter problems with the 2000 upgrade?
Thanks in advance, Cynthia

How well does printing support scale in Samba 2.2.x ?
Hi,
I'm working on a printing project consolidating a bunch of NT machines with
a Solaris printing machine. I'm concerned about the scalability if I increase
the number of printers from say 20 too 300. How does it effect the response
time for looking up and changing device setting etc.
Thanks

Slow driver properties?
I'm currently using Samba 2.2.5 on a Mandrake 8.0 box with cups 1.1.4.
I have several printers shared that are accessed from winNT/2k/xp boxes.
When I right click on the printer or select printer properties, or go to
print from any of those other boxes, the response is slower than molasses.
I have an identical machine running WinNT Workstation that was previously
our print server. It is

particular file and I'm receiving the following error and unable to open the
file on a network share. If I place the file on a local drive it loads

Winbind on Solaris 2.6
It would appear that communication with the PDC is fine - all other commands
(-t, -m, -s SID, -n name, etc.) work OK, it's just the group/user
enumeration calls that appear to fail. Has anybody got any ideas whatsoever
- I think it has to be a problem on the NT PDC side as, according to the
debug log at level 10:

Domain name lookup combinations setting?
I see in my workstation log trying to connect to my samba server an attempt
to find my username. If I do wbinfo -u | grep -i davidsha, it returns
INS+DavidSha. Do I need to change something so that it tries more
combinations or something? I thought just passwords were case sensitive.
