Cannot copy files to samba share. (A little off-topic)
I've created a share in Samba (2.2.3a) and cannot copy or create files in it. I know I've missed something, but am unable to find the error. Any help is appreciated. I'm logged on with username nick (correctly as I can add files to my Home directory...) smb.conf [global] workgroup = kbnn server string = Business Linux/Samba Server hosts allow = 10.0.4. 127. remote announce =

OK, Samba's OK, now I need swat help.
Ok, I should be able to start swat with xinetd, but I can't seem to get anything to start. 1. How do I tell if swat is running (other than trying to browse to aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd:901) 2. Can someone give me an idea of what and where I need commands for xinetd. Server is RH7.2, Samba 2.2.3a, following file "swat" is in /etc/xinetd.d/ ## /etc/xinetd.d/swat service swat { port

My Documents folder and roaming profiles.
Hi All, I don't know whether here is the right place to ask as this question is probably more Windows related than Samba related but I thought someone here might have some ideas. I've got a Samba 2.2.5 PDC (running on FreeBSD but that doesn't really matter) serving Windows XP machines. The roaming profiles are set to be stored in a different share to the users home directory so

[swat] won't run
The only docs I found on getting SWAT to run, showed editing the inetd.conf file. As this version of RH (7.3) only uses xinetd things don't fit exactly. I have gone through and did everything that one should do for inetd and it still will not work. I don't normally use the thing, but this client will need the more simplistic interface to add shares, etc.

2.2.7 RH 8.0 Binary RPM's
After installing these rpm's, no swat executable can be found... I've built it from the sources and gotten it working, but is this something that needs to be corrected in the rpm? Has anyone else noticed this, or did I do something silly that I haven't realized yet?

Roaming profiles problem
Hey all, I've got a few WinXP workstations logging into a 2.2.4pre (CVS from April 30th, around 8 p.m. PDT) PDC, and I'm having some sort of odd problem with roaming profiles. The XP workstations can successfully (it seems) retrieve and save thier profiles to the samba box; however, if I log off a user, say "gary", from one workstation, and travel to the next one, and log in

loading printers
I just configured a server to use the CUPS printing system and have all my printers shared out by Samba. I made all the necessary changes to the smb.conf file but don't want to restart samba in the middle of the day since it is a high traffic server and don't want to break connections. Is there a way to just have samba load all these printers without restarting the service????

RE: SWAT not working, can't authenticate
I have had this problem before. Never really got to the bottom of it but if you want to get on then just add '-a' to your swat command to disable authentication. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Myers [mailto:myersjj@us.ibm.com] Sent: 07 November 2002 21:08 To: SAMBA@SAMBA.ORG Subject: RE: [Samba] RE: SWAT not working, can't authenticate I had already done that, so it must be

RPM build errors-Possible Bug?
Hello all. I'm trying to create the rpm for Samba 2.2.5. I haven't uninstalled the other version as we are using it. I got the tar.gz from the Samba web site. I type # sh makerpms.sh and this is what I get this @ the end: checking statvfs64 function (SVR4)... no checking statvfs function (SVR4)... no checking for 3-argument statfs function (DEC OSF/1)... no checking for two-argument

Printing:access denied.
Hello All. I'm using Windows 2000 prof on a NT domain with samba as the PDC. The printer is connected to the samba server via a usb port. I've tried all that seemed obvious to me, and still the same message. Ive made the printer share directory belong to root and group owner every, which has everybody who should print belonging to that group and chmod 770. I've made the printer$

Problem joing a W2KSP1 client to a Samba PDC (2.2.5).
Hi, I'am running a small samba server at work with 10+ users in the domain (all of them added with W2KSP1 and 2.2.3 or 2.2.4). I uppgraded to 2.2.5 a while back and has not experienced any problem with it, but when I try to add a newly installed W2KSP1 client to the domain I get the following entries in the log file: Sep 10 13:29:55 linus smbd[17681]: [2002/09/10 13:29:55, 0]

Shares all empty after upgrade to 3.0.14a-fc4
Hi, Hoping you can help. I've updated my samba server (PDC) from 3.0.10 to 3.0.14a as part of updating from FC3 to FC4. I now find I cant see inside any of the shares, even though I can see the share names themselves and the directories are quite readable to Linux processes. So, e.g. I can see that I have a share "Users", but not the contents of it. With one exception all shares

Samba SWAT 2.2.7 Doesn't Work in Redhat8.0?
Hello All Samba-list Members, I have installed a Samba 2.2.7, the samba-latest.tar.gz, as a PDC on a Redhat8.0 GNU/Linux server. ( Of course, I first uninstalled the original samba that came with the Redhat installation CDs by rpm -e samba*.) The installation was successful. Then I modified /etc/services and /etc/xinetd.d/swat as suggested in the installation document uncompressed from

REPOST: queuepause/queueresume and w2k machines, won' t work
[Shane Drinkwater] Daniel, I have the same probelm. These are the steps I did in a previous thread... Jim, I think I found another bug... I really seem to be in printer hell :(.... I found that windows 2k doesn't update its status "ready" or "paused" when used with samba. Here is what I did... 1.) enable all of the lpr/lpd queues. check em' with lpq... 2.)

Which tree should I be barking up?
Running Samba 2.2.6 on RedHat 7.2 in a Microsoft NT4 Domain, trying to create or copy a text file to a share from a MS Windows 2000 Professional workstation (client2k) gives 'Access denied' Reading the log file (level 3) for samba.client2k (not an activity I feel much comfort in doing correctly) it looks like I am being recognized as a 'guest user' which is a problem but for
