Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello,
Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh
clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with
AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is
a must.
I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true?
Thanks,
Joe

Weird behaviour with multiple accounts pointing to same maildir
I'm finding this a little strange.
I'm putting together a mail server that will (someday, hopefully) serve
a lot of email addresses for a lot of domains.
To make life easy, each account name is the full mail name ... i.e
"joe at domain.com" instead of just "joe" Mail is stored in Maildirs,
and the user account information is all in MySQL. Delivery is
handled by

Is Dovecot able to use PostgreSQL to store mailboxes?
Subject says it all.
(I'm almost positive this is a FAQ, or that the information is online
_somewhere_, but I just spent 20 minutes without finding it ... sorry if I
didn't search hard enough)

Reading external files with dtrace
I''d like to be able to dynamically read external configuration files within a dtrace script. I know dtrace allows inclusion of C header files but only at the preprocessing stage.
What we need to do is dynamically enable/disable probes based on current application settings. I''d rather not have a bunch of independant scripts running and being started and killed whenever the

Windows hangs on logout
Moin,
i have installed samba 2.2.3a with FreeBSD. I connect some windows
98 and Windows ME boxes to the server and it works. But if I try to
logout the windows clients hang. If I disconnect the samba shares I
can shutdown the client so it looks like an samba configuration
problem?
What maybe the problem?
Many thanks

Samba Migration
Well, I have successfully migrated about 75 Windows 95/98 machines over to
using Samba as a PDC, it works better than I expected. Much faster than NT
or OS2. However I have a few questions? There are a couple of machines
that will not use the Samba box to authenticate. I know that the network
config on these machines is correct as they were working before, and the net
properties have been set

Samba and WinXP problem
Greets to all,
Recently, I was given the task of setting up a Samba server where I
work, to accept domain logons for Win9x machines and also NT-based
machines, which consist of mostly XP boxes, with a couple 2K machines
as well. This domain would be replacing an older one, that was using a
very out of date Samba (from RedHat 6.1) that couldn't do XP/2K at all.
The new one is from

need ipfw clarification
Hello,
I noticed that after enabling firewall in my kernel (5.3-release), my
dmesg now gives me this:
ipfw2 initialized, divert disabled, rule-based forwarding disabled,
default to accept, logging limited to 5 packets/entry by default
On 5.2.1, I used to get this:
ipfw2 initialized, divert disabled, rule-based forwarding enabled,
default to accept, logging disabled
If both cases, I am

How to create but not delete file/dir?
Hi,
I want to setup rights so that users can create files/dirs but once they close them they have read-only right for them. I'm using Samba 2.2.2 on XFS but AFAIK XFSs ACL won't help me. One friend told me that he saw once some "well hidden" parameter for Samba which allows this :-)
BTW: NT and Novell allows to do this thing ;-) (also is said Solaris)
Thanks,

win2k/samba problem
I am unable to see my samba server from my Win2k Pro machine.
Can someone please help me out? I had a problem with Samba early on. The
problem was resoved by removing TCP/IP from my Win2k machine and then
reinstalling TCP/IP. Now I've stumbled into this problem.

Samba & VPN
Hi,
I have a linux box running samba 2.2.3a on a network. All machines on the
network can see each other and browsing works fine.
When I use an external machine, connect it to the network via a VPN to the
linux box all existing machines continue to work fine. Existing machines
can see and browse the machine through the VPN. However, the machine
connected via the VPN (win2k) can not see or

Please help, updated to 4.8 serious issues
Greetings,
After I updated my FreeBSD box from 4.7 to 4.8 I "lost" my users, but
heck with users, what I mean by lost is that I can't login, when I try
to login as the root or a regular user it says:
pam_authanticate: permission denied
so, I went ahead and re-updated my box from the very beginning,
including unnecessary at this point cvsup. I used this command: make

Problem with hidden files
Hello all,
I'm working with a CAM package running on Windows 2000 OS
(Service Pack 2).
This CAM should write its output to Sun Blade 100 workstation with
Solaris 8 OS. On the Sun I installed Samba (ver 2.2.2).
The output of the CAM is a directory that includes plain ASCII
files. Before starting the output, the CAM creates a directory and an empty
.lock file inside. When the output is
