Installing on HP3000
I'm running MPE 5.5pp5 and am trying (again) to get Samba on there. Has anyone else done this? I looked at the survey page on the samba website and MPE/iX was not listed as a platform that anyone has registered a survey form for, so I wonder if no one is successful getting it loaded. Any assistance that can be provided will be gratefully and graciously accepted. TIA Howard Hoxsie HP3000

starting a java application as a service
I have a single requirement to launch a java application on startup as a service. The application is shipped in a file called jes.jar. It requires three arguments: a dotted quad IP address, an initial service port, and a translated service port. I can get the application running as a console command. Can someone point me to a site that documents how to script a sys V init.d style script

SAMBA digest 1812
Hi samba list members, Firstly, I've been using Samba for some while now and would to thank the Samba team for such a brilliant effort. I've got a Samba server running on a Linux box for a client (around 25-30 users) which has been running nearly 90 days now without any serious hitches at all. The client is incredibly impressed, over the moon, etc ... so it's probably time to pay up

Word and samba
Greetings Group I think the Word crashing problem is quite common and does not confine itself to Samba as PDC. Running Word with any file open on a Samba server seems to invite trouble and file trashing. This seems to more of a problem with Win2000 and XP than Win9X and NT. I suspect that Micorsoft have "improved" the code to "optimise" performance for Micorsoft

Looking for a script to add/remove multiple shares from smb.conf
Has anyone ever written a script to remove individual shares from the smb.conf file? I am trying to put together a script that will add & remove multiple shares at once by giving a <sharelist as input to the script. Adding shares is easy because I can just append the shares to the smb.conf file, but removing individual share entries within the smb.conf file without messing up the

pre-/postexec in printers-section
Hi, after updating our printserver from Samba V2.0.6 to V2.2.7 I encountered the following problem. Samba does not execute the (root) pre- and postexec within the printers section. If you are using these command in another section everything works fine. Does anybody know if these command are not supported in the printers section anymore? smb.conf: [global] ... load printers = yes lpq cache

Port 139 versus Port 445
I've noticed that my W2K clients connect to Samba much more quickly if I run it on port 445 instead of 139. However, my WNT clients then won't connect at all. I read somewhere that it was possible to forward the requests on port 139 to port 445. Anyone know how to do this or how to listen to both ports simultaneously? Thanks, Jason Joines Open Source = Open Mind
