Incoming traffic?
Hi there,
a program is downloading large files on a regular basis and has no switch
to limit bandwidth.
Is there a way to shape this incoming traffic? Any pointers?
My outgoing traffic shaping works perfectly, but this incoming thing gives
me a headache..
many thanks in advance!

choosing syslog facility?
Hello!
How can I log dovecots messages into a separate file?
Is it possible to set a custom syslog facility name somehow?
I can't set the log file in dovecot because dovecot does not automatically
rotate the logs like syslog does..
thank you!

smbd hung processes - Samba 3.0.7
We've seen Samba crash and burn twice in the last 48 hours - it just
started happening, and we have no idea what might be causing it. I'm
hoping that someone will recognize this problem.
Platform: we are running RedHat Enterprise Server, with Samba 3.0.7.
We're using security=domain in an old-style NT4 domain environment.
The symptom that we're seeing is that the number of

Connection reset by peer
Hi,
We continuously see these errors in our logs. I've done some searches on
this but nothing seems to point to anything specific.
Any ideas?

Question about Posix Locking and Windows XP/SP3 clients
Hi,
We have SAMBA 3.0.33 running on RedHat 5. We are sharing home directories
to users via Samba using the [homes] share. The home directories reside on
a Netapp filer, (actually multiple), and are accessed by the Samba server
over NFS. When users try to open a Microsoft Excel file from a Windows XP

TAG Standard - ENSEMBLE/PERFORMER tags
I've read through what I think is the entire thread and looked at the
standard in its current incarnation
(https://reactor-core.org/~djw/ogg-tags.txt). I have only one major problem
with the proposed standard at the moment. The existance of both PERFORMER
and ENSEMBLE tags. I think this is describing the same type of data

Older Mac to SAMBA copy
I've built a new samba server to replace an aging Apple 9500 running 8.6
that is acting as a 'file server'. The other macs run 9.2 and 10.2, which
are the computers that will be served (I HOPE!) by the samba server.
I have installed DAVE in order to be able to copy the files over to the new
server. However, as the files copy, they disappear on the samba
server. Someone said it

General Samba Questions
Hi,
We've been having lots of issues with our Linux based Samba servers since
the Windows domains have migrated to AD. We were hoping and expecting
that, at least in the short term, we could run in "mixed" mode and not
have to make any changes to our Samba servers. However, things just aren't
working well. Also, I've posted several issues to this list over the last

Samba File Sharing- Some Doubts?
Hi Friends,
I didnot see any response for my previous mail. So I thought I would
post it again.
I want to run Samba on my linux desktop which is on NIS domain. I want
to just share my files on linux box with windows machines on windows
domain.
My issues are :
1. Do I need to join the domain for sharing my files with them?
2. Do I need to have a login account for my linux machine on windows

deliver: select destination folder
Hello,
I wanted a commandline switch within deliver to select the destination
folder within an IMAP account, so I added the -f switch, heres the diff,
the implementation is only "proof of concept" hehe, I didnt checked if
theres any security riscs in doing this. Could we add something like this
to dovecot?

qpoppers XUIDL
Hello,
does anybody know how to make XUIDLs compatible to qpopper?
I'm migrating from qpopper and one of my test-migration-accounts leaves
the mail on the server. As soon as I switch to dovecot it downloads the
mails again and again..
bye!

admin users' file is owned by root
Hi there,
I just found that if an user is assigned in the "admin users", and if the
user grab a file from window to samba share, the file will be owned by root
from unix view. I am believing this is a bug.
The samba version I am using is 2.2.4.

issues with version 2.2.2
Hi --
Does anyone have any strong comments either
positively or negatively about the new version 2.2.2
running on Solaris 2.7 or 2.6?
I have been running version 2.2.1 since August and
have been having some really unusual behavior with
random denial for some users from some machines at
random times. Is there any evidence that 2.2.2
might help with this?

rsync deleting symbolic link unexpectedly
I''m running 2.6.6 on a red hat EL3 system.
using the following command,
rsync -rlptDvzL --stats --include=a/ --include=a/dir/
--include=a/dir/symlink/ --include=a/dir/symlink/dir2/
--include=a/dir/symlink/dir2/dir3/ --exclude=''**'' /export/stuff

I expect the "symlink" (which is really a symbolic link to a directory)
to be preserved on the
