Files not found on UNIX.
Anyone have any input on this one. I'm running Samba version
1.9.18p10 on an HP9000 HP_UX 10.20. An NT 4.0 server writes files to
a UNIX directory and periodically a shell script runs to process any
new files found. Occasionally a file isn't found for several hours
after it has been created, then mysteriously appears in the UNIX
directory. So far this hasn't been a major

Bug in samba-2.0.6
Solaris samba 2.0.6 with largefile support running on ultra 10 with solaris
2.7 patch level 106541-07.
Clients are win98 and win2000 importing a 10G share from the solaris
machine.
Using a small C program that writes 1M chunks to a file I can write a file
as large as the partition will support.
Using the system backup program to write a system backup to a file on the
share the program dies with a

pre2.0.7 disk quota bug
Hi all,
SAMBA pre2.0.7
./configure --with-quotas
Linux 2.0.36
The old disk quota bug is still here. If user tries to write the file
to SAMBA share and disk quota is exceeded, SAMBA fills remaining space
within the target file with spaces, and writes it to the share. This
is "xcopy" behavior. If the program writes small chunks of file, the
result may differ. The user is under

NT client setup
I have installed smbd/nmbd version 2.0.6 on linux. I have read through the FAQ.
Is there any document, that explains what needs to be done to setup on a NT workstation?
I am trying to access the NT printers from Linux.
Any pointers appreciated.

Not a troll
Dave CB:
I reconfigured the mail client on the shared dial up computer at the
school to read the latest samba articles. I apparently made a typo.
The email address is hhacker@calweb.com.
The school, Kit Carson Middle School is NOT a university. If it were a
university, it would have Internet access besides a lame dial up. Its a
6/7/8 grade school in a slightly worse off section of town.

security in samba
Hi,
I am wonderng whether or not samba has some function related with
security.
In our group, we used to use 'samba' in UNIX machine (OS: AIX 4.3). One
day the UNIX machines were broken by a hacker, and we could not figure
out how the hacker could break the system. So now we are concerned to
keep using 'samba' for this security matter.
Is there any function that samba can help

Samba bottlenecks
Samba bottlenecks?
As my network grows I'll probably find Samba bottlenecks sooner
or later - such as saturated bandwidth, internal I/O, bloated
user database. Are there any signs to read foretelling the
apocalypse? Are the any viable solutions?

Changing IP Address
Hello,
Recently we changed the IP address of our Solaris server and our NT
server to change
over to a new VLAN IP Scope. Servers where shutdown and restarted,
everything looked fine, email
web browing, ping etc...
SUN Server
10.0.0.3 -> 10.27.3.3
NT Server
10.0.0.2 -> 10.27.3.2
The Samba smbd and nmbd processes restarted fine. No other changes. Can

intermittent browsing
I recently downloaded and installed binary versions of Samba 2.0.7 on two
Sun Microsystems platforms running Solaris 7. One of the machines is an
Enterprise 5000 and the other is an Ultra 10. I set up both servers for USER
lever security and set all shares to be browseable. Both were set to be in
workgroup SUN.
When first installed, both machines appeared in workgroup Sun under Entire

Making a share visible only to members of a group
Hi,
> I want a shared directory to be visible only to the members of a group, and

I tried to realize this by using include like: #include smb.conf.%G
But it did not work correctly. Sometimes the share was visible,
sometimes it wasnt,
and if it was visible, network path wasnt found afterwards.

Diagnosis Tests - Failed #5
I'm working on the first of a few Samba machines for our network.
It's running RedHat 6.2 and Samba 2.0.7.
On the NT 4.0 side of things I can see the machine (with the correct name)
if I do NET VIEW or look in the Network Neighborhood. However, when I do
"NET VIEW \\SambaServer" I get an Error 5 Access Denied. (Test 8)
So I started on the diagnosis and got to Item 5.

Oplock problem in 2.0.7 locks up Samba completely
first of all: thank you all for you excellent work on Samba.
However, I dare to complain about a problem with oplocks that of-
ten plagues the server here. The server is used for just about
everything, Samba is used for file and print services but also as
a gateway to a Pervasive SQL database (via a named pipe).
Usually after a few days of perfect function (just over two weeks

Win2k & 2.0.7
When I try to join the Win2k machine to a domain, I get the following message:
The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "WIN2K":
The procedure number is out of range.
This is a Win2k PC attempting to join to AIX 4.3.2 running samba 2.0.7. Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

byte locking bug?
I'm having trouble with file locking in DOS over Samba. The trouble is
Samba seems to be translating my lock request to a different range.
Samba server is a linux box running 2.0.5a and clients are win95 or win98.
The win32 call that I'm making to lock the file is called LockFile. We
use this regularly, and lock a byte just before the 2GB range.
We attempt to put a lock on the

Safe and stable??
Have been running Samba 2.0.6 on a RH6.1 box kernel 2.2.14 for two months
now. It is the PDC and storage for documents. It is running on a 10Mb/s
local network with 4 Win98 machines. So far there have been no glitches -
I have kept to the defaults (just about).
I am now thinking of moving a 'mission critical' shared database
(currently on one of the Win98 machines) onto the share on
