What user on what computer?
Hallo!
I found a quite usefull hint about email-notification using samba by simply writing a Mailslot-message-command into the users .forward-file.
That is quite nice, but there is a small problem: While the username is still the same, so does not the computername.
People can log on every computer in a network, so the computername varies.
I am looking for a method to run a script - on the server

Guild Wars 1 and Stops Win95 and Win98 Support
Dear Wine-Community!
Guild Wars stops on 2012-14-06 the support for Windows 95,98. But since Wine-Users could switch the Windows version to Windows XP or above we are not effected.. are we?
This should be an action to made the Guild Wars Client safer and to protect User Accounts. Couldn't guess what security Mechanism Windows 2000 do support that is missing in Windows 95 and 98.
No doubt

printing - Win95 & Win98 not working - NT,2000, XP are ok.
Hi folks - I am having printing problems with our older machines.
Printing is working okay for our Windows NT, 2000 and XP clients.
However, with windows 95 & 98, the print job gets put into the Samba
spool directory (path = /var/spool/lp/tmp/samba) but doesn't make it to the
printer.
The print files stay there in the directory - don't get removed.
Samba version is 2.2.7a, on

Fw: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Hi Peter,
i had a long, frunstrating web surfing yesterday night, searching for
something
that could apply to your case. I didn't find much at all, sorry. The only
thing
perhaps interesting to you could be this:
http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/printer_driver2.html
This doc contains a section about migrating from 2.0.x to 2.2.x

TCP/IP Slowness (was win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP)
Hi,
I had similar problems with Samba and speed. To begin with, I thought
it was a Samba problem, and spent a lot of time stuffing around with
smb.conf Then, just to make certain it was Samba and not a generic
TCP/IP problem, I tried ftp'ng a big file to and from the Samba server
from W95. Speed was only 20 k/sec - about 2% of the expected speed of
a 10-Base-T network.
Same for FTP'ng

Encrypted passwords and OS2/Win95/Win98
My LAN is running Samba v1.9.18p10 under RedHat Linux v5.2. Using the SMB
services are Win95 and OS/2 clients. It's all running fine.
I will soon be adding Win98, though, and I understand that there is a
question of password encryption. I'm concerned how the
encrypted/plain-text communication of password will affect my existing
configuration.
If I reconfigure Samba to use encrypted

migration win95 -> win98
Hi everybody,
we are currently running a small network with a samba server and a few
Windows _95_ workstations. The server stores roaming profiles for all
users and provides authentification (logon scripts, policy file, ...)
Now, we are planning to add a Windows _98_ workstation.
Q1: Will Win95 and Win98 be able to work with the same user profiles,
policy file etc?
If not, what can I do?

Hi list....
I'm the newest in this list (I think), and I have a big problem, I'm usin
linux 2.2.2-15 with samba 2.0.7, everything is right but there is one thing
there I cannot resolve.
Look:
I have a directory called A, shared as A, and in A there is 210000 (yes two
hundred and ten thousand) files, with 115K each one, there is biggers and

port 139 problems
I'm trying to setup Samba for the first time. I have followed
documentation, gotten password files setup, joined a domain, and now I'm
trying to start the daemons. I start the nmbd fine, and can see it in
Netowrk Neighborhood. However, when I try to start smbd with
/usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D, it fails immediately. The log.smb shows:
[DATE] smbd/server.c:main(641)
smbd version 2.0.7

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT ,2000, XP are ok)
Thanks for the suggestion Andrew, I was hopeful,
but removing the writeable made no difference.
Still prints from NT, 2000, XP but not from Win95, 98.
Any other ideas?
-peter.

NTUSER.DAT, user's settings
Hallo!
I have reinstalled the server, specially the Samba PDC.
I copied all the data back and the system seemed to work. People were
able to log on and had the drives mapped.
Now, at the day "0" after reinstall, the users cannot work. The user's
settings on the "Windows 2k Professional" machines are not adopted. They
all have their desktops and own documents, but the

Samba as PDC for WinXP, Win98 and Win95
Hello!
Ive just got the lovely job of converting and old Windows NT 4
fileserver to FreeBSD, ive set up samba before as a simple fileshare but
this place requires roaming profile login from WinXP, Win98 and Win95
clients.
My question is whether or not any of you people have any experience with
this and might be able to give some tips on the way? I've tried fidling
with it but i cant get

SAMBA digest 2537
Hallo!
I have a small question. I wanted to improve Samba-faxing. The system shown in the HOWTO does not include the nice features a faxing-program
like Winfax offer. Chain-fax, adressbook and much more.
So I began to write a series of scripts to manipulate the incoming fax to send.
The text should have all the command on the 1st page.
My scripts split the text in two parts: 1st page and pages

win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP

I have been disappointed that I can't use Linux+Samba as an

The software we need runs in win9x.
We crave stability. But Linux+Samba is just much slower as a file
server.
It's normally quite fast: are you running over a
dial-up network, requiring you to adust MTU's for
speed???

Ok, I know suggesting a bug is a bit impolite, but I cannot find a solution for
this and
none of the helpful people who have responded have been able to help either...
If I come off sounding a bit short it's just because I've tried many things to
get these
older clients printing. :-) Don't mean to annoy anyone. Appreciate any help!

Did you change your "security" setting in your new Samba e.g. from "share"
to "domain"?

Sorry to have to repost this (didn't get any response on the first post),
we really need some of the fixes of the new Samba but cannot go ahead without
the support for the older machines.
Need to prove that Samba is the great product that I believe it is.

STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER for printer trying to connect to smb share
I have a kyocera TA-205C printer that is can scan to pdf and place the file
on a smb share.
I have a user on my domain (PCEDOM\printers) that can login and access the
share. I tested it out with smbclient and was able to create a file where
the printer is supposed to be able to put the file.
The printer gave a very unhelpful error message, so I did a packet capture
to find the error. (see
