Samba & Linux SMP kernel
Greetings all, I'm still struggling with Samba 2.0.7-4 on a RedHat Linux 6.2 box and I'm wondering if there are any known issues when using samba on a box with multiple processors. I *seem* to recall reading something about this quite awhile ago, but I can't find it and don't remember enough about it to be useful. :-( Currently I'm using 1.9.18p10-52.4 on the box

High oplock break fail count
Hi all, we've just recently switched to a new file server upgrading to samba 2.0.3. Unfortunately I've noticed that a couple of times a day a smbd process dies with 'oplock break failed' so I actually had to turn off oplocks thus degrading performance drastically. Does anybody have any idea why oplock breaks are failing so often now? Cheers, --- Martin Hoffesommer Soft

Remote backups of Unix machines
My boss asked me to investigate a free (as in no cost) solution that would allow us to archive our AIX server onto the 12 gig tape drive sitting on our Linux server. I tried doing an SMB share with valid user set to root, but this apparently loses the permissions that the AIX box uses (everything is owned root/root), making it rather useless for backup and restore. Can SMB do what I need, or

Mitel 5010
Does anyone know if this phone can or does work with Asterisk ? I have a potential client who wants to throw away their current mitel ip system (keeps crashing on a regular basis - not good for a phone-based company), but are reluctant to purchase new handsets. Thanks. Julian.

* and Fax
Hi, I think this is one area that needs to be developed. I am curently implementing a system for my home so cannot really justify the cost of financially supporting the development of this when all I really need to do is buy a telephone extension lead for my existing fax modem!!! I am more than willing to devote some testing/documentation time (I am not really a programmer) if that helps.

Re: [openib-general] problems with lustre o2ib module & ofed
It seems that lustre puts its modules in /lib/modules/2.6.16.21-0.8-default despite the fact that my kernel is 2.6.16.21-0.8-smp ! uname -a Linux n32 2.6.16.21-0.8-smp #4 SMP Sun Sep 24 08:47:30 BST 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux make[3]: Nothing to be done for `install-exec-am''. /bin/sh ../../mkinstalldirs /lib/modules/2.6.16.21-0.8-default/kernel/fs/lustre /usr/bin/install -c -m 644

Asterisk, Hylafax and T38Modem - help!
Hi All, I know that this may not strictly be an asterisk issue, but if anyone has any ideas on this prob it would be appreciated. I have a working asterisk setup using Suse 9.1, a BT ISDN BRI card (Fritz?), sipura 3000 and a few cisco 7940's. I wanted to do add faxing into the equation, so I thought I would try and setup the following: PSTN->asterisk->hylafax->pc At the moment

Variance-covariance matrix for beta hat and b hat from lme
Dear all, Given a LME model (following the notation of Pinheiro and Bates 2000) y_i = X_i*beta + Z_i*b_i + e_i, is it possible to extract the variance-covariance matrix for the estimated beta_i hat and b_i hat from the lme fitted object? The reason for needing this is because I want to have interval prediction on the predicted values (at level = 0:1). The "predict.lme" seems to

Mitel 5010 +5220
I know this is not strictly an asterisk issue but it is related I guess. Just to let you know that after many calls to Mitel the consensus is that they will be releasing a new version of the 5220 that is dual boot (minet and SIP) next week or the week after. This firmware will only appear on NEW phones manufactured after the release date (no one could confirm but the 23rd of sept was

Supply linear constrain to optimizer
Dear R and S users, I've been working on fitting finite mixture of negative exponential distributions using maximum likelihood based on the example given in MASS. So far I had much success in fitting two components. The problem started when I tried to extend the procedure to fit three components. More specifically, likelihood = sum( ln(c1*exp(-x/lambda1)/lambda1 + c2*exp(-x/lambda2)/lambda2

reading VERY large binary files
Hello, I am trying to read in elements out of a very large binary file ... the total file is 4 gigs. I want to select rows out of the file, and the current procedure I run works but is prohibitively slow (takes more than a day to run and still won't complete). Is there any faster way to accomplish this? My current procedure looks like this: readHH <- function(file_name,

Newbie question but an Easy one
Our school needs to replace our Novell server. We have a collection of XP Pro computers and a few XP Home, Win98, Win95 and Win2000 computers. All we need is file sharing. Can Samba be setup so that all these computers can access a file share (F:\ or G:\) and run the program on the client pc? What would be the minimum HW required for Samba server? Greatly thankful I am! Craig
