This won't solve your problem, but I just ran some tests copying a large file from
NT to FreeBSD2.2.6 and back, w/o any sign of

Share modes problems
Hi all,
I'm having a problem with share modes (at least I think it's share
modes) on my samba server. The problems only seem to have
manifested themselves since I updated to samba 2.0.0. This has
coincided with an upgrade to our system, so it is conceivable that
the problem may be with that, but I think it more likely that it is to
do with samba (since errors are reported in the log

3.0beta5 disconnecting drives
Hi there!
Seems that my 2.0beta5 is not going as smoothly as I'd hoped.
We've found a strange behaviour which is only happening when people
first log in in the morning.
When we log in, a number of drives are mapped to various directories on
the Unix box. Things seem to go OK until another person logs in and tries
to access a file already open by another user. Then they both seem to

oplock not granted
Hello
I just moved a win nt file server to linux/samba
I've performance problem with the new server thought it's a more powerful
machine (and os ;-) ): programs loaded from shares take (much) longer to start
A network trace shows up that the throughput needed to achieve the program

times the one needed to run from

Problem with Word 6.0 on samba share
Hi all,
I have a problem opening file on a samba share with Word 6.0.
We use samba 2.0.5a running on a HP9000/800 (HP-UX 10.20).
Often when try to open file, Word stop responding for some minutes
(generally from 2 to 5) and then word succed to open it.
In the sambadir/var the corresponding log file is like this :

Migrating from 1.9.19-prealpha
Hi,
We have been using 1.9.19-prealpha very successfully for over a year and
have just started migrating to 2.0.4b, the environment is Sun Sparc
running Solaris 2.5.1 and NT 3.51 & 4.0(/sp3).
On the servers that have been upgraded, the log files are filling up with
some ominous messages, but curiously, users are not reporting any errors
at the moment. The following are characteristic of

Samba & CUPS: only banner-page gets printed
In my setup I'm running Samba 3.0.23d-19.2 and CUPS 1.2.7-12.1.
Printing from a windows-client works fine, until I instruct CUPS to add
a banner-page. The banner-page then is the only thing that gets printed.
Doing the same from Linux everything works fine. I get my job including
a banner-page.
The Windows-printjob is passed raw from Samba to CUPS...
Anyone has an idea?
Best,
Johannes

Help! Problem with Samba 2.0.5a + WinNT4.0 SP5 (process 7281 no longer exists)
Hi All! Help!
can anyone tell me what this message means? I'm running samba-2.0.5a. It
sort of works, I can mount a samba drive from WinNT and run programs stored
on the samba drive, but when I try and open an oracle form file on the samba
drive, form reports an error opening the file.

"session was cancelled" on large file xfers
I've seen a couple mentions of trouble w/ large files in the list
archives, but nothing that seems to resolve this problem...
When trying to move or copy largish files (~ >1MB) with WinN using
Samba 1.9.18p10 on a Sparc Solaris 2.5 system, things hang for a while
and then a dialog box pops up saying "Cannot copy {filename}: The
session was cancelled.

Winbind, still unreliable
Hi there,
I recently posted about problems with winbind resolving names from ADS.
We have an ADS Domain Controller serving the domain MED-DUS and an NT 4
PDC serving the domain MEDOIL.
We want to use a samba server as memberserver in the MED-DUS domain. I
joined the samba server to the MED-DUS domain.
The domain join worked ok. All users (including MEDOIL) are visible.
Next i started winbind.

PANIC and delayed drive mapping?
Hiya!
Samba 2.0.7 on HP-UX 11.0.

Frequent crashes - drives me nuts .....
Hi,
i've already setup lots of samba boxes. Mostly large servers
as PDC's or as domain members in large networks. No real problems
far.
A friend asked me to update a small network (3 Win 98 boxes
and two Win 2000 boxes) from samba 2.0.6 on
an ancient version of linux to samba on suse 8.2. The Win98
boxes use a login script to get their shares mounted the Win 2000
boxes have their shares

PATCH: Samba/Win2K renaming bug
Hi there. I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.1 + kernel 2.4.17. My
girlfriend's laptop is running Windows 2000 + service pack 2. She has
about a thousand MP3s stored on a Samba share on my RedHat machine. We
were finding that she couldn't rename any MP3s on the Samba share: she
would always get a sharing violation.
After a day of reading Samba logs at debug 10 (_such_ fun [ ;)

Win2k oplocks and you
Hello list!
I've seen the threads in this months archives on oplock issues, so I
hope I am not hitting a sore spot by bringing it up again. The reason I
am beating on this is that I've got a testable, repeatable issue with
Win2K terminal server (SP2) running CorelDRAW 10 (patched to current)
against a Debian Woody box running Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian. Since I
can repeatedly test the

Internal error: Signal 11
Hi, I have a problem with Samba from last week. Our
SMB server( Debian Linux 2.2.12, samba 2.0.5a) was
working very well since october 99. We didn't do any
changes with our SMB server sw or hw configuration.
There is my problem: content of samba log file:

SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a and missing libncurses.so.4
I've downloaded Samba 2.2.6 (binaries) from SCOs Skunkware site, but
when I try and run smbclient I get a message :

I've checked and there is no libncurses.so.4 (or
libncurses.<anything> for that matter) on the system. I've also
failed to find anything relevant in either the list archive or SCOs

byte locking bug?
I'm having trouble with file locking in DOS over Samba. The trouble is
Samba seems to be translating my lock request to a different range.
Samba server is a linux box running 2.0.5a and clients are win95 or win98.
The win32 call that I'm making to lock the file is called LockFile. We
use this regularly, and lock a byte just before the 2GB range.
We attempt to put a lock on the

Problem with large files
Hi
we have samba 3.0.14a on FreeBSD 5.4.
We tried with different kind of locking and oplocks (both enabled and
disabled).
If we try to copy from a Windows XP client a file larger than 3g, we get
these error:
Cannot copy XXX. The specified network name is no longer available.
We traced this problem in the logs (log level 10) and we got this error
